QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 11:05 AM) Even if you take out return protection for us, which is bad, it's just our Kicker and punter are the worst we've had since 04. We're at the point where an XP isn't guaranteed. Franklin, it's tough. He had .9 seconds to throw that game, he has a young o-line that is often just missing assignments and people are coming through untouched. And with that, as would be pretty common with a QB, he's kind of assuming how the play will go before it happens, and gives up and just decides to go with the dump off. He is really talented, but having a bad oline brings out the worst in most QBs. Welcome to my world. Tennessee's special teams have been awful since I started school. We signed the #1 kicker and #1 punter in the nation (according to Rivals) 3 years ago and we still stuck. We're using a walk on, 3rd string kicker right now. And we have missed 3 extra point attempts in 4 games. As a Bears fan, I've been spoiled with great special teams, which makes it tough watching my college team suck so much at it. -

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 05:18 PM) I gotta say, its kinda weird. Our(South Carolina) special teams have been ANYTHING but special, but they looked fantastic against Mizzou. Your QB, Franklin, baffles me. He looks FAR too relaxed and patient back there, it is very odd. I do think that Mizz has the chance to win some East games, the defensive gameplan against Mizz was fantastic for us. I know he is capable of far more than that though, he looked indifferent while in the game. I feel the same way about Franklin. I've never seen a QB look more nonchalant when receiving the snap. It kind of bothers me actually. -
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) Because that worked well for the Titans Sunday or the Bears last year. Those cases are the exception, not the rule. There's a reason why every football coach in the country (regardless of the level) teaches their players to bat the ball down. It's the safer play, and the ball is much less likely to get caught.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 10:30 PM) Im note sure I see the humor in that comment. These guys are doing the best that they can, its not their fault. This is squarely on the NFL. Yeah, I honestly just feel bad for these refs. They were in no way prepared for this. Many of them are used to doing NAIA games in front of 100 person crowds. Being a NCAA Lacrosse referee myself, I know how difficult it is to referee a game in any sport. So I tend to have more sympathy for refs than most people. But, I also know that these guys made numerous, critical mistakes and the players/coaches/fans/etc. deserve better.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 05:23 AM) Find a way to sack up and beat the puppies in Athens, please. It'd make my day to see Tennessee take them out at their place, then have them come to Columbia and get beat 2 weeks in a row! I sure hope they do. I'm going to Athens for the game and it would be great to see us pull off the upset. Georgia always has a let-down game every year, so I'm hoping this is the one. With that said, Georgia has looked awfully good so far. That defense is awesome. If we aren't able to run the ball, I don't think we have a chance. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 07:08 AM) When the game was tied at 23 with 8 minutes left in the 3rd. Fumble where Akron got the ball but was given back to Tennessee after the review even after there was no indisputable evidence to say it wasnt a fumble. Ah okay. I thought it looked like a good call, but like I said, I was at the game so we only got one look at it on the jumbotron. Wouldn't have mattered anyway. There was no way Akron was coming out of their with a win. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 09:46 AM) I'm pretty excited about the Bears. Must be the only one, but the defense has looked amazing and I expected the offense to struggle early as it created its identity. I expect it to potentially have a couple down games, but as a whole, continue to improve to the point where it is a top 10 offense in this league. This will be a very good football team by season end. I agree with you. As long as the defense stays healthy, that unit is going to keep us in games. And as the offense begins to piece it together (and get Forte back), we're going to be alright. After the Packers game it was easy to be all doom and gloom about the Bears, but if you look around the league, no one has been that great so far with the exception of the Falcons. And they don't scare me too much. They're one dimensional on offense (albeit with an excellent passing game), and the defense is playing way beyond their talent-level (though Mike Nolan has done a fantastic job with them so far).

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 03:58 PM) Welp, New Orleans lost, so I would have been out of my survivor league anymore. All is forgiven, Gostkowski. In other news, my dad and my uncle made it through yet another week. Half the league lost with NE last week, and like 1/3 of the league lost with NO this week. Upsets killing this league. My Dad already won his survivor league after Week 2. This season has been ridiculous. I've never quite seen anything like it.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 09:06 PM) Refs bail out Tennessee. Amazing how refs can overturn calls that show no visual evidence to do so. Huh? I honestly don't know what you're talking about. I was at the game and the only reviewed play that was close actually went the other way and gave Akron the ball. -
I find Fall to be my least productive season for working out. With football on all day Saturday, Sunday, and on Monday nights, I typically never make it to the gym those days. Plus, I always go out of town a few times to see UT, so those weekends are a wash. Basically, I love the Fall because it's football season, but I also hate it b/c every year I go to the gym less than any other time of year... It doesn't help that I just pulled a 13 hr day and got home at 10pm either, so I'm a little more frustrated than normal about not getting to the gym today.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread

Since we're talking basketball, Tennessee just got the #12 player in the country (SG Robert Hubbs) as well as another Top 150 player (Antonio Davis' son). Both committed yesterday. I really needed that news after the awful loss to Florida this weekend. I really love Cuonzo Martin. Hope he never leaves. -
What the heck is up with Peyton tonight? 3 awful interceptions. Very uncharacteristic. Of course, it doesn't help that his arm strength just doesn't seem to be there.

I think I might grow one again after reading this thread. I did last year for Christmas and it was awesomely bad. I looked really creepy.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 10:55 PM) Trade 1 is damn tempting. Stafford could easily regress if the Lions cant run at all and Eli could put up similar numbers. You add in Graham who I think will be the highest scoring tight end, that is just really hard to pass. I am not a big Stafford guy though and I think Eli is a sound QB. I would trade Ridley over BJGE, today. That may change in a few weeks. The reason is that Vereen is out right now so no sharing carries for Ridley. Who knows what Belichek does when Vereen is back. BJGE on the other hand is likely to get 20-25 carries come rain or shine the rest of the year. Really just depends what you prefer, solid guarantee or risky upside. You and I are the same person. You basically typed my thoughts exactly.

Opinion needed: Would yall trade Stafford for Eli and Jimmy Graham? I have Flacco as a backup QB, so I'd have Eli and Flacco to play based on matchups and Graham would be an every week guy obviously. My current TE's are Greg Olsen and Jared Cook. Also, a guy in my league has Fred Jackson, Beanie Wells, and Ronnie Brown as his RBs (no idea how he ended up with so much crap). But his WRs are really good. If I could pull off a trade of Green Ellis or Ridley + DeSean Jackson for Calvin Johnson (he said he might be open to it b/c he has literally no RBs), who would you rather trade: BJGE or Ridley?

2 exciting things today: 1. I bought a MacBook Air and it is supposed to be delivered today. 2. Looking forward to the iPhone 5 announcement. I've been eligible for a phone upgrade for about 6 months now. Very curious to see what the 5 is like officially (I've seen plenty of rumors). Think I might make the switch from the Android to iOS.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 10:13 AM) Depends on the type of game that is played. If its 20-17 type game then I will favor Florida but if Tenn can make it a game in the mid 20s then Florida will be in trouble. I think Tenn will be able to move the ball but they will need to score TDs and not kick FGs. This is true. But I fully expect the offense to put up points... Also, if we're settling for FGs, then we're not scoring b/c our kicker is awful. That's the thing I'm most worried about: special teams. -

Can it just be Saturday already? This has been the slowest week of my life. Oh, and if we lose to Florida, I'm going to be more disappointed than I've ever been in UT football. This is a must-win and a should-win game. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) Badger, that was quick. http://host.madison.com/sports/college/foo...19bb2963f4.html What a fall for Markuson. Only a few years ago he was considered one of the best offensive line coaches in college football... Now he's getting fired after 2 games. I thought he would have been a really good fit at Wisconsin.
