  1. Just saw this tweet from Bruce Feldman that would interest the Illinois fans: ‏@BFeldmanCBS RT @Gambo620 Penn State RSF Right Tackle Ryan Nowicki has decided to transfer and is likely headed to Illinois
  2. QUOTE (SnB @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) So I have to start doing phone call audits at work where I call one of our branches and pretend to be a customer. My fake names are always going to be obscure white sox players. Today I used Danny Richar. Nice. Anything to make the work day a little more fun, right?
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 04:13 PM) Sox are spending some money internationally. I like it, I like it a lot. First the draft and now this. That sums up my thoughts perfectly.
  4. Very surprised and impressed by the Sox signings this year. They've been able to agree to terms with a number of players we wouldn't have in the past. I guess this new bonus/slot system really did help us out.
  5. Pretty pumped about Ayala. Very unexpected considering what his bonus demands had been reported as.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 5, 2012 -> 09:07 PM) Don't count out Gatlin. He was awesome in Eugene. The USA has a chance to get 30+ medals with a talented Track team. Yeah, Gatlin has made an incredible turnaround after his suspension for doping. Glad to see he still has the natural talent to compete at a high level.
  7. That was awesome... Not sure O'Day found it that funny. He tried to act like he did, though.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 11:29 AM) That better not happen. They should just take the winner of the SEC title game. Anything else should be outlawed. Why? The best 4 teams should be in regardless of conference. If that means the SEC gets 2 teams, so be it. Same with the B1G, Pac 12, etc.
  9. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) This is kinda cool. Big Ten is doing pretty poorly, though. That's shocking. I can't believe the Big 10 is 6th and by a pretty good margin.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 10:36 PM) My college has a program where if you call a particular cab company (whose number is on your ID, your fob access, and all kinds of s***) you do not have to pay up front for the service. The school covers it that night and it appears on your student bill as a miscellaneous fee. I had no idea that Rhodes did that. That's awesome. And I'm sure they have a deal with that cab company that lowers the rate b/c it gives them more business. Win-win for all parties involved.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 05:16 PM) I believe the entire NFL has a phone number they can call 24-7, that will pick them up and drive them if they are too drunk, no questions asked. Apparently most players aren't aware of it. Yep, they do. I have no idea why any NFL player would drive drunk other than stubbornness and/or they just don't care. When I was in college, we had pledges that were on-call every night of the week and I used them all the time to take me home from the bars. Sure, you have to wait 10-15 minutes, but it sure beat driving drunk. And yes, the other alternative is a taxi. If I can afford to take taxi's, I'm sure NFL players making millions can too.
  12. The Olympics can't come soon enough... Also, count me in as liking the Summer Olympics more than the Winter. But barely. I love them both.
  13. These high draft picks (Hawkins and Barnum) have given me reason to start checking the minor league box scores on a daily basis again. Definitely going to be fun to follow these guys. And I know it's waaaay too early, but it's hard not to get excited about Barnum's start. Very impressive for an 18 yr old kid hitting with a wooden bat for the 1st time on a regular basis. He clearly doesn't seem to be intimidated or overwhelmed by pro ball.
  14. Excellent start for Barnum. Kind of hard to not get excited when he's doing that in his 2nd/3rd professional games.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 21, 2012 -> 01:23 PM) Congrats Mr. Moderator. Now spam your friends and recruit! Welcome Jake. It was really getting tough for me to monitor all of those posts by myself... haha
  16. What's the deal with this kid? To be honest, I've kind of lost time to follow the minor leagues anymore and I have no idea who he is. But, his numbers are impressive as a 19 yr old in High A.
  17. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jun 14, 2012 -> 11:08 PM) Don't you have to have a PE to work in consulting? That was the impression I was under. Obviously, there are different types of consulting, but if you're an Engineer, you could certainly go into technology consulting with really any undergraduate engineering degree. I'm in software consulting and have a business degree (focus on Supply Chain Mgmt), but I work with a lot of IE's, a few ME's, and I even have a co-worker who studied civil engineering at Purdue. All of the guys I started with are no more than 2 years out of school and are not considered PE's.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) Geography teachers everywhere have to smashing their faces into the walls. At least Bristol is have in TN. Ha, that's what I was thinking too... But Great Falls, Minnesota? Come on...
  19. Perfect. The Sox are actually on national TV and I have tickets to the Braves game at the same time.
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) So your Dad sent your sister to a public school in Columbus and was upset that she was exposed to the OSU fight song? Did he also send her to summer camp in Wisconsin and get upset that she ate cheese? I mean, it's not like he was so furious that he complained to the school or anything. But, yeah, he was definitely annoyed. And I feel like teaching the kids the OSU fight song during class is a little overboard - I consider that to be more than just being "exposed" to the song.
  21. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 11:13 AM) Illinois one is stupid, was hoping for a lot better than that. Just not really relevant to the school. That's kind of what I thought. Really disappointing considering how good some of those others were.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) Fun video clip from the Hawkins pick, including a split screen of Kenny freaking out when he does the backflip, and then getting on the phone and telling Hawkins no more backflips. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=22072073 Good stuff. Thanks
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 08:09 PM) I'm not taking a shot at you dude, just the general impression of SEC fans that most of us have. s***, thats the impression half the Big Ten have about OSU fans. BUt really, we dont care as much about conference pride as the SEC does for better or for worse. In fact, its very hard for Big Ten football fans to root for each other even in bowl games. Gotcha... I'm the same way with certain SEC teams. I always root against Florida and Georgia, and now Vandy has crept into that mix simply b/c their Head Coach is a jackass. Otherwise, I tend to root for the rest of the conference. I have a story you might like about Columbus and how much that city loves Ohio St: My family lived in Columbus for 15 years, and one night my dad overheard my sister (who was 9 yrs old at the time) singing the Ohio St fight song when she was laying in bed. Of course, he was a bit miffed and had no idea why she'd be singing that. Apparently, they had been teaching the OSU fight song in school during music class. As an Illinois grad, it's safe to say my Dad was not pleased. Oh, and when I was in elementary school, we used to have "Scarlet and Gray" days on Fridays during football season. Everybody was supposed to wear those colors, and if you didn't, the other kids would give you a really hard time.
  24. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 10:40 AM) To break up the talk about SEC rednecks we don't care about, here's this: http://www.blackheartgoldpants.com/2012/6/...ition#storyjump Love the Northwestern one. Don't really get Illinois, though. Are there really that many meth labs in the state? I had no idea.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 08:48 AM) Huh? How is that immature? I am saying that's how SEC football fans are viewed primarily, and nobody on any message boards I frequent has given a crap about what SEC fans think about Delany. Our priority is to win a conference title and run the table, if that happens the odds are good a Big Ten team gets into the championship game. About then is when the SEC will actually matter as a conference, and the fans chanting for their conference never matters. And Rex, obviously I was exaggerating, but thanks for the research. Yeah, I know how SEC football fans are viewed by Northerners. I'm from Ohio originally and all my relatives live in the Midwest. But, I'm just saying you're obviously trying to take some sort of shot by using that terminology and implying that all SEC fans are hillbillies (and essentially, slow and stupid). Otherwise, you would have just said SEC "fans" in your earlier post. On a lighter note, I believe the term you're looking for is "Redneck." Hillbillies are reserved to hill country, which is essentially Eastern Kentucky and East Tennessee in SEC country. Rednecks are pretty much throughout the rest of the South.
