Official 2012-2013 NCAA Football Thread

Tennessee's class really took a couple late hits that stung pretty good... Dropped us down to like 7th-8th in SEC, but still Top 20 nationally. Still, after such a s***ty year, not making a bowl game, and losing 6 coaches in the last 2 months, it's hard to complain with a Top 20 class. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 06:11 PM) Why the hell did Green-Beckham pick Missouri? And why the hell did Darius Hamilton pick Rutgers? I don't know, but I'm just glad he didn't pick Florida... And I'm looking forward to see DGB in Knoxville next year, but hoping he doesn't live up to the hype. -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) Had to send in my official start date for after I graduate, and my boss and friends keep telling me to take some time off before starting work. I settled on just taking 1 week off, and my friends think I'm crazy. But I won't have much money to travel, most of my friends don't live around where my family moved (most of my closest friends are 45 mins away, or are staying on campus for the summer), and my first year of work will be a ton of work trying to get more familiar with the technology I work on, and thus I'd have a better start on my assigned project which pretty much is going to be my life for a year or two, and if done well could lead to big opportunities within the company (working on CI/lean thinking projects which the CIO has been huge on the past few years, and as an intern I did more in this area than many teams already). I had 5 weeks off before starting my job, and I think that was a great amount of time - but my scenario was different. I, like you, didn't have much money to travel, but I did have a bunch of friends still in Knoxville so I absolutely lived it up during my last 3 weeks there. Then I moved to Atlanta 2 weeks before starting my job, so I could have plenty of time to get settled and learn an entirely new city. But since you said most of your friends aren't close, and I know you've worked at your company for a few years now (so you're plenty familiar with the company and city), then I totally get your decision. I still may have taken more than 1 week off, but I can't fault your thought-process.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) http://www.drafttek.com/CMDRound1_17-32.asp would love to see this draft for the bears. Based on this draft I'd go with Alshon over Dwight Jones and in the 6th I'd go with Russell Wilson over the RB they had the bears taking, If the Bears wanna go with a RB in the 6th I'd rather have Herron. I'd go with 1 RD Decastro 2 RD Jeffery WR 3 RD Cam Johnson DE 3 RD Orson Charles TE 4 RD Nate Potter OT 5 RD Cliff Harris CB 6 RD Russel Wilson QB Based on this draft Orson Charles is a stud. I think he'll end up going earlier than where they have him slotted, especially with the impact pass-catching TE's are having around the league. But, I would love to have him on the Bears. And I agree with the other posters that if we go OL in R1, it has to be LT. I love DeCastro, but as previously said, our Guard-play was solid this year. If we don't have, say, Mike Adams available at #19, then I'm okay with going for CB, DE, or LB if we don't target a WR. -

Can't believe no one has posted in here... Happy NSD everyone! Unfortunately, Tennessee lost out on 2 top LBs late in the last 2 days, but we did sign the #1 JUCO WR. -
That was great

This is the first time I'll be filing as an independent. Not sure what to expect, honestly. But I'm definitely going to enlist my Dad's help. He's always done my taxes for me, so now I've got to learn on my own.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 11:16 PM) I'm just glad this GM search is over and now we can move on to improving this football team. If Ruskell is indeed let go, then that's even better news. I'm excited as ever for the draft now, especially after all the praise Emery has gotten as a talent evaluator. Hopefully it improves our chances of getting Dwayne Bowe also. I've seen some murmurs here and there that they could go after Jermichael Finley too. And there's obviously the Brandon Marshall possibility. There are 3 glaring needs for the Bears IMO. WR, CB, OL and in that order. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the first round at 19. Luckily, there's 4 WR who are likely 1st rounders and 3-5 CB as well. You'd have to think one of Alshon Jeffery/Michael Floyd/Kendall Wright would be there, or possibly Dre Kilpatrick. I wouldn't mind using a 1st on a LB either if it was a Bama guy, or even Vontaze Burfict. Yeah, the Bears should be able to target a number of positions with that 1st pick. Dre Kirkpatrick would be ideal, and he may just fall to us if his failed drug test hurts his draft stock. But yeah, I'd be cool with a WR or OL obviously, and even DE or LB if the right guy is there. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 27, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) drops & unsportsmanlike conduct penalties It would be tough for me to like the guy after the cheap-shot that tore Eric Berry's ACL this year. Oh, and Emery is so typical Bears. Just bring in one of the "good 'ol boys" that used to be with the organization. They would hire my least favorite of the outside candidates. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 02:20 PM) Having your own financing set up ahead of time is huge I did that with the car I bought last month and it made things so much easier/quicker. I walked in, said I had 2.99% financing which they knew they couldn't match, so we just got right down to business.

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised that he passed away. Same thing happened when Bear Bryant stopped coaching, so I kind of expected it... But it was a sad end to an otherwise incredible career - a career that will likely never be matched. -

Great win for us against UConn. Jarnell Stokes is a beast - it's amazing he should only be a senior in high school this year. Andre Drummond who? -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 12:38 AM) Pretty much. I used to follow it religiously. But all the same f***ing schools get the best recruiting classes EVERY year. College football has become more predictable than the NBA (and it's even more corrupt). And that's pathetic. Isn't that like 6 in a row for the SEC? That's also the 1st ever BCS Championship Game loss for the SEC... Really wish OK ST had made the game. I can't stand seeing Bama win another f'n title. -
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) Wanting to do some fairly low impact reading over the holidays I got around to reading the Hunger Games trilogy. Very enjoyable. I finished The Hunger Games the other day and just started Catching Fire last night. So far, so good. Really enjoyable books.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) The Bulls fans for game 6 last June were at least as loud as the Hawks fans. Yep, that's also how it was in Game 3. The amount of Bulls/Hawks fans in the arena was split 50/50. Crazy how many Bulls fans were there. I'm going to the Bulls game tomorrow night. 6th row in the lower deck. I'm pumped.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 10:45 PM) Either the acoustics at Phillips Arena suck, or the Atlanta crowd sucks. I'll go with both. Bosh pulling a Lebron in the 4th. This... I was at the game last night and the crowd was completely out of it... but when your team is losing to a Heat team without LeBron or Wade, I guess that's to be expected. Atrocious loss last night for the Hawks.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 03:06 PM) Alshon won't run a 4.4 or 4.5 at the combine, I can bet whatever on that. But, he may still be around at 15-20th I think. Really? I know he had a down year, but Alshon was so damn dominant from the time he stepped on the field as a freshman, I didn't think he'd fall that far. I guess I could see his weight concerns (and character?) being an issue, though, which could drop him. I just remember at a point last season thinking Alshon was the best receiver in the SEC (and that's saying something considering AJ Green and Julio Jones were also in the league). -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 04:57 PM) Should this be in a new thread? dunno, but two pieces of good news... 1) Have a 15min phone interview tomorrow which is most likely a precursor to a face-to-face interview in a few weeks. 2) A friend of mine passed my resume on to his boss and he's apparently very interested in me. I need to get him a revised resume by noon tomorrow and I'll probably have an interview within the next week. That's excellent news. Always good to have options... On another note, should we maybe change the title of this thread to eliminate the years? I think there's some valuable information in here and it's not a terribly long thread, so it might be nice to keep this one going. Just a thought...

Going to be an interesting week... I live in Atlanta so I'm getting to watch the Bulls-Hawks game tonight with my Hawks-fan roommate, going to the Hawks-Heat game on Thursday and then the Bulls-Hawks game on Saturday. Should be a fun 5 days of basketball.
