  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 12:38 AM) I'm so pissed that the Bears finished 8-8 now. We're likely out of the running for Blackmon, Floyd and Jeffery. Same here. I understand wanting to win, but there was nothing to gain from that. I just don't understand why we were trying to win that meaningless game. Should have played Enderle, sat Urlacher, etc. And if we still won, so be it... but if we lost, then picking at #11 or #12 would get us a chance at Floyd or Jeffery... #19? Not so much.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2011 -> 11:54 AM) None taken. We traditionally don't travel very well. That's why I was surprised to have so many hotels I tried booked early. I'll try to get a crew together now then. I think it will be a blast. How far is the drive? 8.5? (chicago) And one last thing, when do tickets go on sale usually? Don't quote me on this, but I believe they'll go on sale in July... I'm assuming that because that's when individual game tix went on sale last season.
  3. I got the Kindle Fire - love it so far.
  4. I read a tweet a few days ago that the Saints only have 1 offensive starter who was a 1st round pick (Mark Ingram - and he splits touches). That's pretty amazing to me.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) Who is the Tennessee fan again? Do you know how long I'll probably have to book hotels? Like half are already booked up for that weekend. That would be me... Honestly, it just depends on the weekend. When teams like Alabama and Florida come, you better book really early. And not that I'm trying to put down Missouri or anything, but with yall being new to the SEC and not a powerhouse or anything (but better than UT is right now), I wouldn't imagine that weekend will be too difficult to find something if you want to wait a little longer (albeit, you probably won't be within walking distance if you wait much longer). I'd say all of the downtown area hotels (walking distance to campus/stadium) will fill up pretty quickly regardless, though. If you don't mind having to drive to campus (traffic is absolutely awful if you leave the area right after the game and parking will run you $20 minimum if you park off-campus), then you'll definitely be able to wait and find hotels within a 10 minute drive. Not sure that helps, but if you're definitely going to go, then I'd say book a downtown hotel now b/c walking to the bars/stadium/campus is just so much easier.
  6. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) Hearing UT for Stokes if that makes you feel any better haha... Also hear UK is definitely not an option. Yeah, I'm 99.9% sure he'll pick UT tonight. That's the word, but until it happens, I'll still be wary. Tennessee just doesn't pull highly ranked kids out of Memphis. Period. It just doesn't happen. We haven't landed a kid like that (that wasn't a transfer) in probably 30 years. This is big time. I'll put it this way: I firmly believe he's going to UT, but I'm trying to talk myself down until it actually happens. This is a big time player for a program that has gone through a tremendous amount of crap the last year.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) I though the NBA was changing the draft rules to two years out of HS? I thought they discussed it but didn't actually make that a rule.
  8. In an unprecedented move, 5-star Jarnell Stokes will be announcing his college decision today and enroll in January (graduating a semester early from high school). This would give him the 2nd half of this season and all of next year before he could bolt to the NBA. Hope to God he picks Tennessee. Pulling highly ranked kids out of Memphis is impossible. And even more impossible when his list includes Kentucky, Florida, etc. This would be an incredible pickup.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) This is interesting. That game last night was crazy. One thing I learned was that Chauncey still has something left in the tank. That steal - run the court - pass off the backboard to Blake was nuts. How crazy is it that Blake Griffin went from having Mo Williams and Eric Bledsoe tossing him the ball to f***ing Chauncey Billups and Chris Paul? CP3 also had a great lob to DeAndre Jordan for an alley oop dunk. The Clippers are must-see TV this year. And yeah, I think Chauncey can shoot better, run better, and obviously pass much better than Rip. I wonder what the Bulls would have had to bid (perhaps the $5 million they bid on Rip?). Absolutely. I already have tickets for when they come to Atlanta. Blake Griffin is my favorite non-Bulls player and with CP3 now dishing to him, I expect even more insane highlights. Can't wait.
  10. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 19, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) So you think Green Bay is good with out Rodgers? Offensive Rushing YPG: 99.7 good for 25th overall Defensive Passing YPG: 298.4 good for 31st overall Defensive Rushing YPG: 108.4 good for 12th overall With Rodgers, they won 5 games by 7 points or less. The Packers with Flynn are maybe 8-6., but Id guess they are 500 or worse. Fact.
  11. I don't get the SEC hate on here. It's completely undeserved, unlike the Notre Dame hate which is understandable (though, to clarify, I'm not a ND-hater. I like ND. But I also understand why some don't). Winning 5 national championships in a row says it all. It's just my opinion, but I think there's no doubt that Alabama is a better team than Oklahoma St. They both have one loss. With that said, I also would have liked to see LSU-OKST in the championship b/c LSU-Bama already played... and b/c LSU would stomp OK ST and shut up the haters even more. No matter what happens, the SEC is about to win it's 6th straight BCS Championship. Unreal.
  12. Oh, what a f***ing game to attend as my first non-preseason Bears game (so essentially my first game). It was great being there, but damn did we beat ourselves. I hope we lose out and get a better draft pick b/c even if we somehow make the playoffs, this team cannot compete anyway. This football season, as a whole, has been the worst of my life. All of the best players from my two teams (UT and the Bears) have suffered serious injuries. I've hit rock bottom as a fan.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 1, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) There is no way you feel that the program has been up to standards for quite awhile. I don't understand what the confusion is. Of course Tennessee isn't up to standards. But my comment wasn't about being "up to standards for awhile." It was refuting we haven't been "good for awhile." There is a difference b/t the two. I'd say 3 SEC Championship appearances in the last 10 years is "good." Heck, it's better than 9 other teams in the SEC. Anway, this is the roughest patch we've hit in 30+ years, but I'm really not too worried. Programs with as much history and money as Tennessee never stay down for long. I may be incredibly frustrated with football right now, but whether it's Dooley or (more likely) the guy after him, we will be competing for championships again. As long as we keep bringing in Top 10 recruiting classes (about to be our 3rd in a row), the talent level will be more in line with the rest of the league.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 1, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) 2012-2007=5 years Right. But as of now, it's been 4 years since we were a 4th quarter screw up from winning the SEC and going to the Sugar Bowl. My point is that I wouldn't consider your statement of "Tennessee hasn't been good for awhile" as accurate. But maybe we just have differing opinions on what "awhile" means.
  15. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 1, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) So you're expecting the program's best year in 5 years? I don't see it. Tennessee hasn't been good for a while. I'm not expecting it to turn around magically. FYI the Big 12 had the toughest schedules in the country (1-10 in the Sagarin ratings in fact) because the conference was much deeper than the SEC and the Big 12 played an extra conference game. Uh, we went to the SEC Championship in '07 and blew a 4th quarter lead to eventual National Champion LSU or else would have gone to the Sugar Bowl that year. But yeah, I am expecting our best season since then. We had 3 senior starters this year. We had, I think, 4 seniors that started 2 years ago. That's a young team. So I think it is fair to expect a lot of improvement next year with much of the 2-deep comprised of Juniors and Sophomores rather than Sophomores and Freshman like this year. So if adding 3 more wins to get to 8 next year is turning it around "magically," then yeah, I guess I expect it. We return 19 starters on offense and defense. They better improve. And I'm talking about Tennessee's schedule specifically. I won't argue that the Big 12 teams, as a whole, had tougher schedules than SEC teams. But Tennessee's schedule was freaking tough.
  16. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 07:43 PM) In reading the SEC boards now that I have an interest it's funny how these fans think. Tennessee just went 5-7 and lost to Kentucky. I find a board where they are talking 8-9 wins with that schedule. I can't wait to see my school play in the SEC, Knoxville could be a trip. Well, if you bothered to watch Tennessee this year, you'd know we lost our 2 best players and true playmakers for the entire season, and Bray missed 5 games so we were playing with s*** at QB. And we played the toughest schedule in the entire nation, including the #1, 2, and 3 ranked teams. Plus, the whole 2-deep is freshman and sophomores, which doesn't mean they're going to be better but they better darn well be. But yes, the Kentucky loss has no excuse. That was a terrible game. Should have won 6 games this year. No reason not to. As for next year, UT fans always have unrealistic expectations (being a Top 10 program of all time will do that to your fanbase), but 8 wins is a must. No doubt about it. If Dooley doesn't get 8, he's gone. The way I see it, we should win all of our non-conference games. Add wins against Miss St, Vandy, Kentucky, and that's 7 wins. All we need is to upset one of Florida (who is really down), Georgia, Bama, or Missouri and that's 8 wins. Doesn't seem all that unrealistic.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) Where is this schedule? I'd be more likely to make a trip to nashville, sorry to say. Well, yeah, that's understandable. Nashville is awesome and a better city as a whole, obviously. I'd love to live there someday... But for just a Gameday weekend, Knoxville is way better. And Tennessee released it's 2012 schedule. But I know most of the other SEC schools have not... 8/30 or 9/1 - NC State in Atlanta 9/8 - Georgia State 9/15 - Florida 9/22 - Akron 9/29 - at Georgia 10/6 - BYE 10/13 - at Mississippi State 10/20 - Alabama 10/27 - at South Carolina 11/3 - Troy 11/10- Missouri 11/17 - at Vanderbilt 11/24 - Kentucky
  18. Hey Mizzou fans, yall should definitely consider making the trip to Knoxville next Fall. 11/10. Mark it on your calendars.
  19. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 11:05 PM) I obviously don't agree. This year you have a legit top-10 team in Duke and three other talented/ranked teams with Kansas, Michigan and Memphis. A lot of people thought UCLA would be decent too, though that isn't going well. I don't see that holding up next year (though again, it's absurdly early so things can change in the next year). And don't forget Tennessee. They've played two great games and had chances to beat both Duke and Memphis. That team was stupidly picked to finish low in the SEC even though we currently have 6 former Top 75 recruits on the roster and some other solid players. In reality, this is a much better team than people wanted to believe.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) Yeah, apparently they did it because of the 9 game Big Ten schedule. I was really jacked up for that one, maybe even planning on hitting up knoxville. Knoxville would have been a good time for sure... and I felt the same way about Columbus. Even though I was born there and lived there until I was 10, I've never been to a football game at OSU. It would have given me good reason to make the trip... Even still, I will never forget how Buckeye-crazy that city is - heck, we had Scarlet and Gray Fridays at school during football season and they taught us the Ohio St fight song.
  21. Tennessee's Jeronne Maymon had a monster game against Memphis today. 34 pts, 20 reb. First 30/20 game in college basketball since Blake Griffin in '09... Too bad we just couldn't pull it out in double OT. Had our chances.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) Bummer, OSU and Tenn cancel their series vs each other. OSU replaces them with UNC. That's weak, Rock. I'm disappointed in Ohio St. I was definitely looking forward to that home and home.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Forte > Gore. Fact.
  24. QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) Even if Rodgers did get hurt now and out for six weeks, I don't see why the Pack still wouldn't have the #1 seed Oh, they probably would. Like I said, I don't wish anything serious on the guy. Just enough to make him a little rusty and out-of-sync when he comes back for the playoffs. Disclaimer: I'm partially kidding. I never do wish injury on a guy, especially one like Rodgers that I can't really hate. But, I really would be okay with something that keeps him out a few games so as to maybe ruining this rhythm he's found himself b/c frankly, right now he's unstoppable.
  25. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 03:42 PM) I'm not a Bears fan, man. Trust me, I'm not above rooting for injuries but considering I'm very indifferent on both the Bears and Packers and Rodgers is on my fantasy team, just no. Ha, fair point.
