  1. I'm going to Myrtle Beach for Labor Day weekend and I'm more excited about watching Tennessee play Montana on Saturday night than going to the beach or anything else. That's how awesome college football is.
  2. For the 1st time ever, I can't respond to this thread...
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 09:01 AM) Thats a f***ing quick haul. No joke... A bunch of Tennessee fans were freaking out (myself not included) because we had 1 commit at the beginning of July and now we have 16. It was an awesome month with commits coming in waves. Now, we can sit back and be very selective on the rest of the class.
  4. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) Hell no, most certainly not. Haha, I actually thought about you when I wrote that.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) No more recruiting thread? Luke Fickell picks up his first 5 star recruit! I know, right? Tennessee picked up 15 recruits in a span of 32 days and I had nowhere to brag about it. Not that anyone would care since everyone here is a Big 10 fan.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) I know this is pretty much the opposite of what this thread is about but ..... I JUST QUIT MY JOB. Boom, so happy about it. I was accepted into grad school a short time ago (Northeastern Univ. in Boston). Sooo excited to get out of Missouri and up to Boston. This makes the 10th time I've moved in the last 2 years (political campaigns) but this one should be a long-term move. I couldn't be more excited about this opportunity. Plus the campus is like 5 blocks from Fenway so I can enjoy some baseball while I'm at it. Congrats. And even if this is the opposite of getting a job, it is about continuing your career path so I think it pertains just fine. You'll be looking for a job again soon enough.
  7. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 07:43 PM) Interesting for Forbes, it had sounded like he could have had a shot at a few jobs the last few years - now he's screwed. Forbes is the Head Coach at a JUCO in Florida right now... Not the way he probably envisioned his career this time last year. As for Pat Summitt, Vol Nation is definitely hurting right now. I never followed our women's basketball team, but I've always had a ton of respect for Pat. Amazing coach, amazing person. It's going to be really tough the next few years.
  8. Just got back home from Chicago. I was at the game today and couldn't have picked a better one to attend. Really fun watching the offensive explosion... But, on such a beautiful day, I was disappointed at the attendance. I know we've been incredibly disappointing/frustrating this year, so I get the fact that people may pass on going during weekdays. But on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon? Kinda sad...
  9. I really hate this idea of super-conferences. 12 teams in a league is more than enough.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) Is that the same as Rosterbating? /the league Yes, I believe it is.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 10:03 AM) Penn State Players All Worried They're Going To Be The One Who Accidentally Kills Joe Paterno
  12. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) Cockroaches freak me out. I can deal with most bugs, but not those nasty little bastards. They can fly? Some types of cockroaches can. I distinctly remember the 1st time I saw one - I was 10 and had just moved to Memphis. My brother and I freaked...
  13. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) That's a big ass cockroach. Looks like both of the cockroaches that I killed in my house last week... We have some "Amazon" ones in the South. Some of them can fly too. Those are the worst.
  14. I always liked "Stark Raving Dad" - the episode guest-staring Michael Jackson where it's Lisa's birthday but Bart doesn't acknowledge it until the end of the episode. Then he and "Michael" (aka Leon) write her a birthday song.
  15. Arrested Development is the one that stands out most to me. And, "Over There" was a show on FX in the mid-2000's about the current Iraq war. I liked it a lot, but it only made it 13 episodes.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 02:45 PM) Fulltime offer finally! And blown away by it, my manager even got them to include a pretty good signing bonus! Congrats, Russ! I know it's a heck of a feeling to get that out of the way.
  17. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) I just got home and missed the entire game, however, can someone give me a brief summary on how Stewart looked? The line looks ok, especially the ER line, just wondering how his stuff looked as well as composure etc. I liked his presence on the mound. He came right at the Twins hitters and didn't seem scared. Worked out of a couple jams to limit damage - e.g. had guys on 2nd and 3rd with Mauer at the plate and struck him out to end the inning. Solid work from a rookie.
  18. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 08:56 PM) Congrats on 1st MLB win Stewart....................this is the type of game Sox have LOST all year! Yep. I saw just saying that to my brother... I actually enjoyed watching a Sox game for the first time in awhile. Nice win.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) Yes Bears, go get Lofa Tatupu! QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 2, 2011 -> 10:22 PM) And it also seems that the Giants would take a 2nd for Osi Umenyiora. I'd be all over that. I approve both of these ideas. I hate how Brad Biggs keeps saying the Bears won't go after Osi b/c they wouldn't lock up that much money at one position. Who give a s*** where we spend our money? If we're going to spend jack squat on the OL, then we might as well spend it elsewhere. And with Peppers/Osi coming off both edges, game over. Our D-Line would wreck so much havoc.
  20. Oh my god, how have I managed to miss this thread? Many of these posts were cracking me up, though I shouldn't have started reading this during a conference call - it was so difficult to keep from laughing while watching that video of Lisa Leslie dunking.
  21. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) This is exactly how I feel. From Angelo's draft-day fiasco to his horrible drafting ability to his inability to improve the biggest two areas of need for this team (WR/OL), he is just a bad GM. How he continues to neglect the offensive line is beyond me. Anybody can see that the OL was our biggest weakness. Carimi was a nice start to fixing it, but the fact that Angelo hasn't done anything since the draft to improve our OL is truly incompetence. Spencer, at best, is as good as Kreutz. But it's so much more than that - leadership, locker room presence, old-school toughness, knowledge of the offense and making calls on the line. That's why we needed Olin back. I know some of you will say there are still quality Free Agents available, but that doesn't excuse the fact we haven't made a move. The earlier they sign, get a playbook, and begin to know the team, the better. There is no point in waiting. Quit worrying about the "market" setting the price and sign a damn guy.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2011 -> 01:22 PM) Spencer can also play guard though, so this could be a depth move and truly not indicate that Kreutz isn't still an option. I wish you were right. Unfortunately, Lovie's comments on the signing of Spencer show Kreutz will not be back. This front office is a joke. I've kept my mouth shut since free agency started b/c I kept hoping for the best, but enough is enough. Angelo doesn't deserve a job. He is terrrible.
  23. Son of a b****... Well, there goes our only real redzone threat in the passing game. I guess it seemed inevitable after the Rosenhaus emails, but I really didn't want to lose Olsen.
