  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) Williams on Stewart regarding his performance this year in AA and his future with the Sox: When I heard Kenny's interview on The Score today, the bit about "four average pitches" made me laugh. I know he didn't mean for it to sound the way it did, but it just sounded so bad.
  2. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:56 AM) If he commits anywhere, he won't switch. He has an offer from every school in the country right now so nothing will change. He's stated numerous times he will only go to a school that will sign one qb only. He stated last week he was done taking visits, so I'm betting it's IU. I would agree with you that top players don't go to IU, but I guarantee this has a domino effect ala Cody Zeller. Kevin Wilson is building something. Gunner has handled this so well Well, there you go. He committed to Indiana. Well done, Kevin Wilson.
  3. All I have to say is that this damn trade has been awful for my productivity at work today.
  4. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:14 AM) So in other news besides the trade today, the #1 5star QB for 2012 Gunner Kiel is at IU this afternoon. Down to IU and Bama, many rumors of commitment this afternoon. In other words, you can bank on the world ending if INDIANA picks up the #1 QB in the country. His brother plays for IU, right? Otherwise, I don't get it. I don't care if he's the biggest Indiana fan in the history of the world or whatever his deal may be. If you're a 5-star QB being recruited by just about everyone, you don't go to Indiana. And I think any reasonable Indiana fan would agree with me (at least the guys I work with who went to IU agree with me, though they'll happily take the kid if he does end up there). Of course, it's still July and a commitment doesn't mean much with signing day 7 months away.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) Again, I don't think is so much about what they actually did, but about the attempt to cover it up and being so uncooperative about the whole thing. I think that's what they're are being punished for. The NCAA is ultra-sensitive right now after the whole Ohio State thing. I think this is a major overkill, but if they had just made it easier they would have gotten off much more lightly. It'll be interesting to see how this decision affects what's going to happen to Ohio State. Exactly. It's just like Bruce Pearl. His actual violation was secondary in nature and probably would have resulted in small penalties (e.g. can't recruit off-campus for a month or something like that)... But, it was lying/being uncooperative with the NCAA that brought bigger charges and lost him his job.
  6. Maybe it's just me, but the NCAA really seems to be regulating more than ever right now - GT loses '09 ACC championship and has to pay a $100k fine. LSU also being investigated for involvement with Willie Lyles.
  7. So that means we went over slot on 2 of our top 3 picks... Nice
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:46 AM) Moved out of my college apartment yesterday. Lived there for 3 years. Also had to say goodbye to my best friend who is moving to Georgia. Horrible, horrible day. Went through the exact same thing the last week of May. For months I was so pumped to get out of Knoxville... but when I finally finished packing the car to leave, I was definitely sad. I still miss the hell out of my 2 best friends - I'll see one of them this weekend, though. The other not 'til October. Oh, and work is quite a transition, but the money is awesome (as others have already pointed out).
  9. 69 days, 8 hours, 41 minutes, and 15 seconds until Tennessee kicks off our season. I can't wait!
  10. I have to agree with Jason here. I'm all about being able to voice opinions - positive or negative - but a lot of the posting on here (particularly the PHT) has gotten ridiculous. I hardly ever read PHT anymore and rarely post in it, mainly because of reasons Jason has pointed out. I pretty much stick to SLaM and the Sports Pub, which is actually really sad to me since the only reason I ever used to come to this board was to talk Sox baseball.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 08:50 PM) So are we sure that this guy is a Bull? KC Johnson is reporting the trade is true.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 09:03 PM) Lousy weather. So who has worse me or y'all in Chicago? Weve got 57% of the county without power, no confirmed tornadoes today though. I heard yall got it bad in Knox. But my roommates in my old apartment still have power somehow. We were always ones that lost power during bad storms... We had the glass doors on the 1st floor of my building get blown out by the wind here in Atlanta, though. Definitely some bad storms rolling across the South (again).
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) D.J. Carrasco just balked in the winning run in the 10th inning to give Scott Linebrink the win. No, this is not mad libs, it actually happened. Yes! I was at the game - Everyone was like "a walk-off balk!? We'll take it!" Brooks Conrad = clutch Oh, also said "Go Sox!" to a White Sox scout. He just fist-pumped and slapped my back. haha
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:29 PM) Very surprised. Serrano is a west coast guy. Facility wise a great upgrade for him (probably pay too), but he won't be able to recruit as well at Tennessee. It will be interesting to see how that plays out. Plus Fullerton is a top open job now. Well, I think there were a couple reasons he came back to UT. He started his coaching career here and supposedly loved East Tennessee. He apparently never stopped following UT football and basketball... And yes, the facilities and pay are both upgrades, so that doesn't hurt. He won't be able to recruit as well to UT at first, but there is a lot of potential. The Tennessee baseball program is in fertile recruiting grounds with one of the consistent top high school teams in the country located in Knoxville (Farragut), and there are a few good JUCO programs in the middle and eastern parts of the state.
  15. Tennessee hired Jason's boy, Dave Serrano, today. I'm pumped about the hire. Great move.

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) Day 1 also went well. Lifted boxes, bonded with some guys from the office, had lunch with my boss and the other intern, took a tour and began working on qualitative research for our marketing presentation on the 22nd. I feel like I'm learning something which is good. Nice. You did well getting an internship like that - soak in everything you can. The experience will (hopefully) be invaluable.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 07:31 PM) Better than me and I live less than 10 miles from work lol. Damn, that is bad. I'm 15 miles so ~30 minutes is completely fine by me.
  18. QUOTE (NIUSox @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) Just got into Omaha. My home away from home for the next 2 and 1/2 weeks and this is my view That's awesome. I have to make it out to the CWS some day.

    Job Hunt Thread

Day 1 was great. The day flew by and I even stayed an extra hour to set up my new laptop and sync all my log-ins and stuff. I figured I would have been ready to leave right at 5, but I was feeling good so I just stuck around. Not a bad commute either, considering Atlanta traffic is horrible (not that I have to tell you Chicago folks about horrible traffic) - 29 minutes in the morning; 36 minutes to get home..

I start my 1st day of work tomorrow. Hello, real world.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 08:14 AM) Visit his already bursting at the seams with info Adopt a Prospect page! Damn. Well done, Balta! You weren't kidding when you wrote "bursting at the seams."
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 08:21 AM) Tennessee Athletic Director Mike Hamilton to resign. Not good. I like Mike a lot... I just hope we don't even consider Fulmer. That would be a terrible decision.
