QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) I think comparing the #1 pick to Griffey and ARod basically happens every year. Edit: or at least every year it's not a pitcher. Yeah, but I just thought it was more impressive coming from a guy who was Griffey's teammate.

On MLB Network, Harold Reynolds just compared Bubba Starling to Griffey and A-Rod. Quite the compliment.

QUOTE (G&T @ May 27, 2011 -> 08:30 AM) Happy birthday! A Jim bday has to be an event! For sure. I think I would definitely enjoy a night of drinking with Jim... Oh, and Happy Birthday!

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 26, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) Yea, that's something theyve struggled with, they currently focus on 6 schools for most of their recruiting, 4 of them in the B10. Apparently they went to this system because they were spending too much on campus recruiting without getting significant enough results, but targeting other schools only makes sense especially in such areas as IT and SC, which tend to have much smaller amounts of students in each program. I believe they are willing to expand in the future, but they have tend to want an alumni leading the recruiting process for each campus, which makes it harder to expand. I understand that, but yes, with areas that tend to be smaller, it would be wise to target certain "other" schools that excel in those areas. Furthermore, it will bring in different perspectives and ideas if you go to other schools - not everyone will have had the same teachers and been taught the same principles, which will help creativity and bring new ideas to improve the company.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) Thanks for the responses so far! Just some more info, the company currently attends career fairs and does oncampus interviewing which can lead to offcampus interviews in the 2nd round. They hold prenights (dinners before the 1st round of interviews) also, but they tend to struggle getting their name out there as a place to work for interns/recent grads. Most times when you ask a student on campus what they think the company does, they either say they've never heard of it or think it's the library (which is named after the company's founder). The area I want to focus on is the reputation on campus needs to be built first of all, and it needs to be about being a great place to work, even for those right out of school. Im trying to get that image to students, through the traditional methods (career fairs, etc) but also through new creative events on campus, but trying to come up with viable, low cost solutions that are effective can be tough . Recruit outside of the Big 10 schools (specifically talking about your company, Russ). Not saying they have to go everywhere, but they can be selective with schools outside of the Midwest. For instance, supply chain is supposed to be important for your company, but they don't recruit at Tennessee - one of the perennial Top 5 Supply Chain programs in the country. Poor choice, IMO.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 23, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) Anyone lacrosse fans on the board? I have really fallen in love with the sport since I started doing play by play for our team. Absolutely. I played from kindergarten through high school... and am now a certified NCAA referee, though as I'm only 23, I haven't officiated anything higher than the DIII level. I feel like you're one in a long line of people that fall in love with the sport once they actually watch it and get to know it. Being in the South (where it's growing a lot, but still not popular), I remember friends' parents who were quick to dismiss it until their kid started playing, and then they realized how awesome of a game it is. My best friend's mom was so upset that he quit baseball to play lacrosse when we were in 7th grade and then years later she thanked me for getting him into the game b/c she really loved watching him play.

Tennessee fired our coach - probably should have happened last year. As a state, Tennessee produces really good high school talent and has some really good JUCO's, so hopefully we'll find ourselves a coach who can take advantage of that.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) Holy crap this is a baseball forum?? I feel the same way. I don't think I've posted in Pale Hose Talk in years... Pretty much keep to SLaM and the Sports Pub. And I read FutureSox on a daily basis, just don't post much anymore (which is why over the last 2 years I was probably the worst moderator in the history of Soxtalk). As for the contest... QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 16, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) Someone get Balta some tickets to games 2 through 4. The Bulls respond well when he's in attendance. Or me... Do you remember Game 3 vs ATL? I was there for Rose's career night, something none of you jokers can say... (please realize I'm messing around)

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 16, 2011 -> 10:09 PM) Hope you got a chance to enjoy a flight or two at Teqila Cava in Mexico. Best EPCOT addition in years. Unfortunately, I didn't. By the time I made it all the way around to Mexico, the park was closed... But, that will just give me something else to look forward to when I come back (b/c at some point in the next few years, I'd definitely want to come back).

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 16, 2011 -> 06:34 PM) Same thing happened to me when i was a kid. I think it was.. wow... 1989? I am pretty sure it was October 18, 1989 (Space shuttle Atlantis) We were getting off of the boat that goes across the World Showcase Lagoon at EPCOT Center. We got off the boat, turned around, and saw this ball of light streaking across the sky. Speaking of Epcot, I was there today. My family surprised me for graduation with a trip to Disney World, so we did Magic Kingdom yesterday and Epcot today. Both were pretty awesome! (I've never been to Disney World before)

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ May 10, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) Interviewed with the St. Louis Rams today for a summer marketing internship. I'm not sure if I got it but they sure sounded like they needed interns for the summer. Even if I don't get it that was good interviewing experience and at least I could say I got that far with a professional football team. That's the right attitude to take. The more interviews you do, the better you'll get.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) Yeah, meant you, oops. Anyway, just bought em, $100 a ticket price, I wound up in the back section of the lower bowl, a little bit offset from the middle. Nice. Those are really good seats... I would have spent that much to sit there, but I was with 5 other guys who didn't want to, so that's why we got the $60 upper bowl tix.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) Well, there we are, 2 more red shirts in the crowd for game 6. Well, looks like I responded a little too late... Where did you end up getting tickets? Like I said, there really didn't seem like a bad seat in the house so I'm sure you'll be good wherever.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2011 -> 07:49 AM) Hey, Doc, if you wind up in here, how good is the seating in the Hawks arena? There are Tix available in the lower ring on the edges/corners near the baskets and I'm wondering if I should shell out the extra money to move towards the middle of the court. Well, not sure if this was directed at me since I did go to Game 3, but it didn't look like there was a bad seat in the house. We were upper deck, mid-court, and we were all glad we sat in the middle rather than the baseline/corner. I think it's worth the extra to sit in the middle... But how much more $ are we talking, and are you looking at the lower or upper bowl?

QUOTE (farmteam @ May 8, 2011 -> 10:35 PM) Finished finals last week...only had two (Marketing Channels and Marketing Strategy), not too bad. Hard to believe I'm a college graduate, that hasn't sunk in yet. Same here... I've been loving the last 5 days having absolutely nothing to do. I can do whatever, whenever... until I start work in June, of course.

About to leave for Atlanta... Hope I don't get heckled too much, but apparently, there's no chance of that as my friend (who's a Hawks fan) said their fans are really bad and unrelenting on away-team fans.
