QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 01:11 PM) UT will dumb down their list after nearly every one of those guys decline. Hell, the national board on Rivals has UT fans running rampant thinking Brad Stevens will take the job. Thats hilarious. No intelligent Tennessee fan thinks Stevens will leave Butler. Don't let the crazies in our fan base fool you... -
I have an interview with Boeing next week... I don't need advice on general preparation as I've been through a few interviews in the last year, but was wondering if anyone had any specific knowledge of their interview process or anything interesting about the company I should know. I doubt I'll get an answer, but just thought I'd ask...

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) Dunkaroos I loved Dunkaroos as a kid... They still sell them at a some small convenient mart in Knoxville. My friends have made numerous trips to get them.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) The Andy Katz writeup on ESPN says this too, they gave him an unauthorized player pass. the way I look at all of it, Pearl did a bunch of stupid little things, got caught doing one of them, lied about it, admitted it, then went out and got busted doing another stupid little thing(visiting a recruit at Oak Hill Academy) and the AD didnt like where it was all headed. If he would have just admitted all these stupid little things in the first place he would still be head coach IMO That pretty much sums it up... If he had admitted to the first secondary violation rather than lie about it, he would have gotten an Izzo-like punishment and would still be the coach. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 08:17 AM) This phrase appears in the AD's statement on the Pearl firing: WTF did Pearl do in March? Can't confirm this, but word is that he gave some extra tickets to a player's family for the game against Kentucky. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 06:16 PM) With all the Pearl news on today, I was actually surprised to learn he didnt have all that much success at Tenn, only one elite eight appearance and 2 sweet sixteen births? For some reason I thought he advanced more times than that. For a basketball program like Tennessee, that's awesome. That Elite 8 appearance was the first in school history. He took us to a #1 ranking two years ago (though it was short-lived). If you average a Sweet 16 every 3 seasons at UT, you're doing well... Actually, I'd venture a guess that a lot of programs would be happy with the results Pearl got at Tennessee. In the last 6 seasons, how many schools have been to two Sweet 16's and an Elite 8? Probably no more than 20. That leaves 300+ other D1 programs that didn't accomplish that. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) No surprise here, but Tennessee has fired Bruce Pearl. I wish them luck in finding a new coach considering hefty sanctions are headed their way. I wouldn't be so sure. A lot of the thinking around here is that the penalties will be reduced b/c we got rid of Pearl. Loss of a couple scholarships over the next few years and maybe a year postseason ban or something. I can live with that. The main violation was Pearl lying to the NCAA. What he lied about was a secondary violation. Now that Pearl is gone, I don't think the secondary violation he committed is going to result in "hefty" sanctions. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) So, did Tennessee just quit? Or was Michigan that good? Tennessee absolutely quit. Worst 2nd half performance I've seen from this team, and that's saying something b/c we've had some really bad halves of basketball this year.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) Really craving some tacos or a burrito, Mexican food is non-existent in the Netherlands. I can't really call their taco dinner mixes at the grocery store Mexican food, since it's just plain terrible and really doesn't taste like real tacos. Damn, Mexican is my favorite food. It would suck not having good Mexican. But I really wanted to respond to your post to say I love the signature. Cracking me up...

In my family bracket pool, my mom picked a Tennessee-Illinois national championship game b/c that's where her son goes and where her husband went to school. She's not going to win the pool, but gotta love Mom for having our back. Haha -
Saw Zac Brown Band tonight in Houston. Drew 71,000+ plus. Awesome show...
-
No matter how much it would have messed up my bracket, I was pulling so hard for Princeton. I love seeing Kentucky (especially Calipari) lose. Kentucky nation would have been in meltdown mode if that happened. Would have been awesome.

And, as usual, Vandy doesn't show up in the tournament. Good thing I picked Richmond...

QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) No, sorry but screw Bruce Pearl. Calipari has never f***ed with a recruit via phone call, recorded it, jacked with the tape to make it look like another school cheated, and sent it to the NCAA because he lost out on a recruiting battle. Sore loser, slimy scumbag. He should be banned like Sampson from Indiana and Oklahoma. Pearl was definitely in the wrong regarding the Illinois situation. It was a low thing to do. But it was 20+ years ago. Let it go. It didn't affect the program like most Illinois fans claim it did. Illinois fans are pissed b/c they think the program would have been "Duke-esque" over the last 20 years if they hadn't gone on probation due to the NCAA investigation that stemmed from Pearl's allegations. Literally, I have been told by Illinois fans that you guys would have been as good as Duke if Pearl hadn't brought on the NCAA investigation. Well, guess what? If Illinois hadn't been cheating, they wouldn't have gotten in trouble. Pearl should not have brought light onto the program with the Deon Thomas accusations, but Illinois was still committing multiple NCAA violations and it's their fault for that. They deserved what they got. I do agree with you on one thing. Pearl should be suspended from coaching for at least a year (maybe two) for his violations. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 08:16 PM) Is there an actual report or just speculation? Just speculation, but it's pretty solid speculation. A week ago on one of the Tennessee pay sites (247sports), our best beat writer posted on the "member-only" message board that he thinks Pearl will be gone. Today our AD was asked if Pearl would be back, and he said they're still looking at the situation. The fact that he didn't defend Pearl is pretty telling. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 08:05 PM) Well look who came to their senses. Well, yeah... I originally defended him before all the facts came out. Once the official NCAA letter was released a few weeks ago, it made up my mind that he had to go. Plus, all you Illinois fans were pissing me off, acting like he was the worst human being to walk this Earth, so naturally, I was going to be a little defensive. I still stand by the fact that there are other coaches who have done much worse and are bigger sleazebags (e.g. Calipari), but they've gotten lucky and haven't been caught. -

Bruce Pearl will be fired as UT's head coach after the tournament. I've been thinking this would happen, but now it's looking more and more likely. I'm fine with it. I hate our style of play and always have. Pearl has done a lot of good things for this campus and community, but he lied and must suffer the consequences. -

QUOTE (Felix @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) NBA refs are overly sensitive about this sort of thing. This lawsuit is just making Krawczynski's more visible than it was when he first tweeted it. All in all, I think it's ridiculous. Exactly. I hadn't heard of this until now b/c of the lawsuit, and I likely would have never heard about it if the referee wasn't suing.

I feel fairly confident Tennessee will lose to Michigan in the 1st round b/c we're just so damn inconsistent. But, I also could see us making a Sweet 16 run, knocking off Duke and it wouldn't shock me. That's why I hate this team so much. There's no telling who's going to show up.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 11:59 AM) Well, to be fair, their self imposed sanction was similar if not harsher than two recent coaches suspensions given out to bball coaches: It would be much deserved IMO if the NCAA expands the suspension to the entire season and sets a precedent on that term of punishment for coaches who withhold information. AS of right now, the swift punishment that OSU imposed on him was probably based on the weak punishments given out in prior cases to coaches. Mark Emmert and the NCAA have had several cases over the past year or so where their sanctions were questionable at best: Cam Newton, Bruce Pearl, Lane Kiffin, now OSU and Oregon. They need to set a precedent and follow it regardless of the specifics ie: the size of the school. Just to clarify, the NCAA hasn't ruled on Bruce Pearl yet. They sent the letter of allegations, UT will appeal this summer, and then the NCAA will come with Pearl's punishment. So I'm not sure how you can call Pearl's sanctions "questionable at best" when they're still in the process. UT self-imposed sanctions of no off-campus recruiting/phone calls for a year for Pearl, docked his pay by 50%, and he was suspended for 8 SEC games. That's half of the SEC season. They didn't suspend him for Toledo and State Tech University. And it definitely had an effect on the team. I enjoyed reading your post earlier about how this doesn't negate all the good things Tressel has done for OSU. I made the same argument for Pearl (which is FACT - he has done great things for the University and Knoxville community), but all I got back in response from this board was that he only did those things to make himself look better, not b/c he actually cares about other people. Guess I shouldn't be surprised with the big Illini fan base on here. Keep in mind, I lived in Columbus for 10 years and I pull for Ohio St (unlike any other SEC fan) in football, but things do not look good for Tressel. He screwed up big time. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 05:56 PM) Speaking of ridiculousness, on the cover of SI this week: "Why John Calipari cant catch a break." Yep, a story about how Coach Cal is a victim and just a nice guy. In the words of Mike Gundy... "Makes me wanna puke." Cal is such a f***ing asshole. He's so incredibly fake as a person and legitimately believes he's too good for most people. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 07:53 PM) Check out this pic Illini fans. Now starting for North Texas: Warren Carter, Jack Ingram, Rich McBride, McCamey, & Jamar Smith. Is that for real? I feel like it had to be photoshopped. How does that happen? Ingram hasn't played for Illinois since '05.
