  1. Nice answer there by South Carolina. Their fullback came up big on a couple of those plays - great blocking on some stellar Alabama LB's.
  2. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) lol@ Garcia. Alabama's got this. Yeah, America's luckiest team just caught another break. Come on, SC. Edit: I'm not saying Bama isn't good - they're awesome. But every game they also seem to get all the breaks to go their way.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) fUSC- 21 Alabama- 3 South Carolina came to play today. I didn't expect them to be the more physical team. Also, Alshon Jeffery is nasty. I somehow don't think he'll be pumping gas for a living, lol...
  4. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 01:37 AM) How would you like to be Vince Dooley Saturday? Haha, no joke. I believe he said this summer that he wouldn't wear orange but he would be quietly rooting for his son - of course, I can't find that quote now. Anyway, I really would love to stick it to Georgia. Our game against them last year was probably my 3rd favorite game of my college career, mainly b/c it was so unexpected. We were really struggling at the time and they were supposed to handle us pretty easily. Then we came out and dominated 45-19 (they didn't score an offensive TD).
  5. I'm incredibly interested to see how Tennessee responds after last week's debacle. Though it may not really matter with 3 true freshman and a true sophomore (JUCO transfer with no other D1 offers) starting on the O-line tomorrow. Injuries have absolutely destroyed us this year, and what makes it worse is that we have no depth, so when a starter goes out, it's like losing 2 people. Our depth chart is essentially a bunch of 1's and 3's. There are no 2's - that's how big of a gap we have between those who start and those who don't. I'm also worried b/c Georgia is 1-4 and are pretty much in a must-win situation or else Richt will probably be fired.
  6. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 01:27 AM) Very good pickup. Very good. Now if we can find a way to steal Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix from Bama and get him to join Hart. He is supposed to be coming back up with Hart, QB Nick Patti, Roderick Ryles and a few other FL players for either the Iowa or Wisconsin games. I'm thinking Wisky but can't recall for sure off the top of my head. FSU commit Karlos Williams has said he plans to visit Michigan as well. Sammy Watkins and Dallas Crawford are supposed to be coming in for the Iowa game on an unofficial visit. I would think there is some interest if they are coming on their own dime. Many of these guys are lonshots, but if we keep winning it certainly increases our chances. That was a huge get for Michigan, pulling him away from Alabama. You guys can steal as many from Bama as you want - the more, the better.
  7. I started talking to a guy at a bar last night who was drinking by himself, celebrating a new job he got... He proceeded to tell me he used his 3 year old son's pee to pass a drug test. That's f***ed up. I didn't even know what to say other than something like "you gotta do what you gotta do."
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) John and Jordan Danks for Gerardo Parra, Mark Reynolds, and Clay Zavada. Seriously though, I am sticking with my prediction that we get Gerardo Parra some way, some how. Even though he missed this year to injury, it would be cool bringing the semi-local (Streator, IL) kid to his favorite team.

    Job Hunt Thread

So, this was in the catch-all thread, but Russ brought up a good point about the job/internship thread he started last year being pretty solid. Considering a decent % of Soxtalk users are in college or just out, I thought we could bring this back... Anyway, I interviewed with 4 companies last week for a full-time job in a Logistics/Supply Chain role after I graduate: ExxonMobile Cummins Whirlpool Chep Does anyone know anything particular or have any advice on working for these companies?
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) You aren't the guy at the gym wearing the fancy-looking Sox hat are you? Nope... I actually don't own a Sox hat, surprisingly.
  11. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) You are setting an awfully interesting standard here. It seems there is no line that can be crossed since he's "your coach." What if he paid every recruit a million dollars, or something even more ridiculous? I mean, he's your coach, after all. There's nothing wrong with rooting for your team/school/program and not being supportive of the head coach. Um, not really. I don't think being sleazy is a reason to not be supportive of a coach. Has Pearl done some shady things in his career? Sure. But if he was caught paying players a million dollars, then yeah, he should be fired. Was it a shady thing to have recruits over to his house on unofficial visits? Yes. Is that reason enough to not support him as my coach? No.
  12. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 10:19 PM) I like how Dooley threw off his headset and tried to leave the field without shaking hands. Then in his conference tries to blame the officials for his team trying to play with not one but TWO extra guys. And yes, there was plenty of time to get the right personnel on and off the field (why are you changing personnel on the goal line?), that play wasn't really rushed, so it wasn't anyone's fault but the coaching staff. Stay classy, Dooley. I will say that we f***ed ourselves by having too many men on the field. BUT, I love that the officials didn't call a penalty on the LSU O-lineman who took him helmet off and threw it down before that final play was over. The whistle hadn't blown yet, so it should have been a personal foul for taking his helmet off mid-play. I'm not sure of the exact rule after that, but either: 1) offsetting penalties; or 2) half the distance to the goal on UT's penalty, and then push them back 15 yards for LSU's penalty. I highly doubt they convert that last un-timed play. I don't think that there's any doubt the officials f***ed a lot of major things up in that game. If anyone remembers the officiating crew that was suspended by the SEC last year for f***ing up both the Florida-Arkansas and LSU-Georgia games, 4 of the 7 refs (including the head official) were from that same crew.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Congrats! Weren't you with GE earlier or am I confusing posters again. Also, I can give a reference for you to a company that I interned for last summer and will be back again to this summer that is recognized as a very good place for supply chain if you want, PM me if interested (it's in the north suburbs of Chicago just fyi). And good luck with interviews! Thanks! Yes, I have been with GE for the last 10 months (full time internship from Dec-Aug, and then part-time once school started again). I'm looking at staying with them, but I'm trying to explore all options. You started that thread last year about internships/jobs... maybe I should start another.
  14. f*** my life. That was without a doubt the hardest loss I've ever experienced. I'm still depressed and the game ended over an hour ago.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 11:27 PM) Bold point 1: Wrong. Bold point 2: At least you realize it. I just don't get calling out a kid for being a b**** when his coach was a b**** as a grown man. It's pretty hypocritical to still support Pearl while you seem to hate the kid. But that's how fans are. Point 1: Ha, you may be right, especially now b/c I half-ass follow Illinois. But, I'll tell what: I had the Illinois Rivals account, read all the Illinois message boards, etc. for years as a kid. I would match my Illinois sports knowledge over the last 20 years with most Point 2: The bolded point pretty much sums it up. While it is karma for this to happen to Pearl, I still hate that it did... particularly if we get some sort of post-season ban considering the recent success we've had.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) I literally LOL'd as I read that post. That guy (and the people at Tennessee) must not know the history of Bruce Pearl very well. Karma is a b****. That guy? I guess you mean me... Well, I think it's documented in previous posts that I do know the history since I grew up a huge Illinois fan (I probably know more about that football/basketball programs than most around here, including yourself). Quite honestly, all of my 7 uncles never let an opportunity pass to talk s*** about Bruce Pearl to me and how he majorly set-back the Illinois program that was on the verge of becoming great. Furthermore, a lot of Tennessee fans do know about the Pearl-Illinois thing - at least all of my friends do and many others I've talked to. And while I admit that Pearl is sleazy (I've never argued against it), he's also my coach. So, yeah, I support him. Plus, he just wins. Actually, since Pearl was hired at UT, they've been a more successful basketball team than Illinois. Considering UT is a football school that has never really had an continued success in basketball, that's even more impressive. Anyway, I got off-track there a bit... So, I stand by my original point in that I think the kid who likely turned us in to the NCAA is a b**** if he really did it. What Pearl did to Illinois 20 years ago was also a b**** move. Still, if Craft went to the NCAA about an illegal visit to Pearl's house (and I still think it looks pretty likely he was involved), it was incredibly immature and unnecessary. I can't even begin to list all the illegal recruiting that goes on at every school when they have recruits visit. And when a kid finally signs with a school, he doesn't rat out other schools that recruited him. You just don't do that.
  17. I interviewed with 4 companies this week for a full-time job in a Logistics/Supply Chain role after I graduate: ExxonMobile Cummins Whirlpool Chep Does anyone have any advice on working for these companies? Obviously, Exxon would be amazing, but it's also incredibly competitive so we'll see. I'm going up against MBA students for that job, so I don't think it's likely. Regardless, getting past the screening process and receiving an interview alone makes me happy.
  18. Heavyweights ("Attention campers: lunch has been canceled today due to lack of hustle... deal with it") Tommy Boy
  19. Solid opener... I'm really looking forward to this season. The year and a half wait was too long.
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 11:52 AM) Southwest to buy AirTran - Great news. I will now be able to fly Southwest out of Memphis.
  21. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) Les Miles is Larry Coker II and LSU wont be a SEC title contender until Miles is gone. His team that won the title was loaded and yet he still managed to lose 2 games that season. And they were losing to Tennessee in the 4th quarter of the SEC championship game until we blew it... He can thank Eric Ainge for f***ing up majorly. 2 INTs in the 4th: a Pick-6 and one in the red zone.
  22. This game was a prime example of why we signed Peppers. He caused at least 5 penalties on Packers lineman (false starts/holding) and the blocked FG was obviously a huge reason the Bears won... And the run defense as a whole is awesome.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) I have a question for those in college: when are you too old for freshman girls? I almost feel bad.....almost. Hook-up: Never too old. Date: If you're a Junior, go ahead. If you're a Senior, then no.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) You mean on Rival's UT message board. Of course they would want to blame someone else. Calling a kid a b****-ass for being truthful to investigators is pretty sketchy.....almost like something Bruce Pearl would do. What do you not get about what I'm saying? For the 2nd time, I never said the kid should lie to the NCAA. But, what is "sketchy" is how the picture came out - no one on Tennessee's side took it. Therefore, it was Craft's picture and he (or his Dad) turned it into the NCAA. That's low. Just go to OSU and do your thing. Don't try to get another school in trouble. He's like the tattle-tale everyone hates in grade school. It looks like he went out of his way to tell the NCAA about his illegal visit. Let's say the picture was some random person's and the NCAA discovered it somehow. Then, if the NCAA came to him and asked about the picture, I wouldn't expect him to lie. But that doesn't seem to be the case based on what we know right now.
