Talking about hating Juan Pierre is misleading and misdirecting. No one has anything against Juan personally. I HATED it that Kenny acquired him and I HATE it that Ozzy plays him more than twice a week. Anyone who wants a team of 25 Juan Pierre's doesn't mind finishing in last place. I wouldn't hate that team, but I sure as hell wouldn't pay any money to watch it.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) Wonderful, another Juan Pierre thread. The issue just hasn't been talked about enough recently. Thankfully it's being brought to everyone's attention again. In my opinion this issue can not be talked about too much. It's nice to imagine that the people in charge of the club that you root for know what they are doing. Eagerly acquiring a barely replacement level player because he happens to fit a certain profile, and then playing him every day no matter how he performs makes me feel very strongly that 2005 was a fluke and that Kenny & Ozzie are basically replacement level themselves.

Wow, flavum & Buehrlesque, that is two great posts right there. Unfortunately, they both make so much sense that it's unlikely they'll ever see the light of day.

You really have to give Jose credit. So many players would never even consider taking a minor league assignment, even in a rehab capacity (see Garrett Anderson this year). To voluntarily go down speaks volumes about the guy's character (and level of desperation). So, no matter what Jose does in the future, he's got my admiration.

It's actually a little tougher than that though, because we play Cleveland 6 times, while Boston plays them 4 times and Minnesota plays them only 3 times. Cleveland is playing MUCH better than their record would indicate.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 7, 2008 -> 02:40 AM) Because its a baseball no-no to change the defense when theres a no-hitter in the 9th like that. You just dont change the team on the field. Pretty basic baseball concept. Ah, that explains it. Too bad there was no virgins to sacrifice.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2008 -> 02:33 AM) Anderson wouldn't have caught that....I'm just thankful Swisher didn't break his shoulder. Great job Gavin, your batting average against is unreal! Maybe, maybe not (Anderson is at least 2 steps quicker than Swisher). That's not the issue. If you know that the pitcher has a no hitter and you're up by six runs, HOW CAN YOU JUSTIFY NOT PUTTING YOUR BEST DEFENSE ON THE FIELD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Yeah, great job. Now can someone tell how you can possibly justify not having Brian Anderson in the game in the ninth?
-
He reminds me of Jose Canseco.

Jaime Navarro....anyone else is a distant second.

The White Sox and Alexei Ramírez agree to 4 year deal

Thanks for the scouting info. I'm curious about the historical accuracy of these numbers. Are they generally pretty dead on? Do most of the reports turn out to be good predictors of a players career? I'd especially be interested in players that wildly exceeded expectations. -
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 03:14 AM) What the hell do you expect them to say? If they agree with Rogers, all they of is potentially plant a seed of doubt in their own budding star. There is no way they are going to say "We're glad we got him, but yeah we really wanted somebody else instead." Are you saying that someone in a management position would tell a lie? There goes my faith in humanity.

I caught the very tail end of an interview on SCR today with someone named Jim from the Diamondbacks management team who was pretty emphatic that Chris Young was the main consideration in that deal. He said that Young was the one that they had targeted and they built the deal around that.

Misread. I was wondering why anyone would want to boo Carlos May.
-
Woody Held tossed me a batting practice ball. Louis Alvarado used to put on a show in fielding practice before the game. Rick Reichardt acted like he remembered my dad when we ran into him on an elevator. Ken Berry was one of the greatest center fielders ever. Walt Williams had no neck! Buddy Bradford hit one on the roof.

QUOTE(StatManDu @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 06:37 AM) It was Ron LeFlore who got hit in the head with a flyball. Also, it was Carlos May who had his thumb tragically blown off -- not Carlos Lee. Right right right....I knew that sounded funny. Thanks for the correction.

Rookie of the year Carlos Lee blowing off his damned thumb.

I'm pretty much done with Jim Thome!

Not to be argumentative, but the threads expressing impatience with Vaz are not so much "kneejerk", as a growing dissatisfaction with some seriously mediocre performance over an extended period. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 01:55 AM) You cannot be serious. Well, not entirely, but I really can't stand Vazquez. This guy is a pitch away from disaster in almost every inning he pitches. He seems to have #1 stuff and #6 performance. It seems like his trade value would be very high right now and I'd feel more confident with Brandon out there.
-
Frankly, I hope that he can get his win total up so that we can cut our losses on him at season's end. I sure hope we don't wait until the end of the season to dump this mope. Hopefully some team desperate for starting pitching can be fooled by his fabulous stuff and decent record into giving us something more than a bag of balls for him. I don't even want him as long relief. I'll take El Duke' over this guy any time.

I must have said to my friends "Hey, did you hear about the White Sox" about thirty times this weekend.

Thanks to all of you. I've been reading Soxtalk every day since I discovered it several years ago and it's been fantastic through thick and thin. You guys have helped make being a Sox fan a real pleasure even when the performance on the field did not match the enthusiasm in here. Winners!
