  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 06:35 AM) He hasn't been allstar caliber this year imo but the reason it's being discussed is because outside of Teixiera first baseman has been a disappointing position in the american league. Ah, I understand. He's not being advertised as "good", just a bit better than the rest of the s***e at the position. Got it. Let's hope the AL team doesn't get any runners in scoring position with less than two out and Paulie at bat.
  2. I am truly f***ing baffled at the talk of Konerko as an all-star. Can someone please explain it?
  3. 1) During the all-star game I had horrible seats way down in the left field corner (those seats sucked). I decided to take a stroll down to the home plate area and got there just in time to have a perfect view of Fred Lynne's grand slam. 2) Sitting in the center field bleachers with friends before a Sunday game. Some guys came out and asked if we wanted to be in a movie they were making about Ron LeFlore. We got to hold a big poster that said "Drop Dead LeFlore" and we actually were in the movie. 3) Being at the game where Buddy Bradford hit one on the roof. 4) Woody Held tossed me a batting practice ball. God, I could go on all day...
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) First baseman and reliever, first baseman and reliever, first baseman and reliever. There is no doubt that Pauly is the weakest link on this team. A cleanup hitter that fails to score a runner from third with less than two outs SIXTY PERCENT OF THE TIME!!!!! I'm not sure I'd keep Konerko over Timo.
  5. QUOTE(Cloudyguy09 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 12:03 AM) what about crede for gold glove he has made some pretty nice plays He may not win a Gold Glove, but he has really impressed the hell out of me. Our infield is pretty damned solid defensively.
  6. Sheesh, what a tempest in a tea pot. Konerko was asked his opinion and he gave it. Big deal.
  7. QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ May 18, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) those are some ugly swine.....stereotypical Sunday womens league softball player I don't suppose that you are struck by the irony of that ugly comment. Maybe you could have someone explain it too you at recess.
  8. Ken Berry Dick Allen Bill Melton Gary Peters Oscar Gamble Walt Williams Big Frank Mark Buehrle Smokey Burgess
  9. ESPN has an article up about the most overrated players in baseball. Mesa is on the list as most overrated closer.
  10. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ May 4, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) As for Paulie, he makes way too much money to bring him back. A one dimensional slow first baseman should not be your highest paid position player. Nothing against Paulie, but that's just the way it is. That money can be spent much more efficiently elsewhere. Yeah, what is it with the Sox and Konerko? How the hell did this guy ever get that kind of scratch anyhow? He's streaky as hell who is horrible about half the time. He must be a hell of a clubhouse guy. Personally I'd like to see Gload and Konerko do a 50/50 time split.
  11. It seems pretty clear that KW had a lot more on his mind than on field performance when he decided who to keep. I would have dumped Konerko at (probably) his peak career value after last year and kept Lee. I'm guessing that the Sox think that Paulie is a real asset in the clubhouse and Lee is a me first guy.

    Closer

Shingo has demonstrated that he is a bit streaky in the past. Last year he couldn't get anyone out in spring training. When things started clicking for him, he was nearly unhittable. It's crazy to expect that kind of performance all the time. It's best that Ozzie is flexible and use everyone, then if Shingo goes on another roll, he's the man untill he isn't again.
  13. Fifth inning. Time to swing!
  14. Got to love teh Hawk. He's the swinger!!
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 8, 2005 -> 04:49 AM) But i dont mind too much, Ozzie still is a young manager and as long as he keeps learning from his mistakes its ok, also any time you win a series its a good thing so im still happy going into the twins series. Yeah, it would be great if the idiot learned something. Here's his quote in the Trib... "We think we made all the right moves," Guillen said. "Every pitch [Takatsu] made was up in the strike zone, and he paid for it." Way to learn something skipper.
  16. What I don't understand (and no one has mentioned) is how the f*** do you leave Shingo in there after the second HR. Was no one warming up? Why not? Was anyone here surprised when the third one went out? I doubt it. Disgusted maybe, but not surprised. We saw this time and time again with Keith Foulke. He would come in and obviously have nothing and get shelled for a heartbreaking loss, but we had to stick with him because he's the closer. Stupid s*** like this makes me hate watching the games.
  17. Paulie as a catcher...yeah, that would be great. He's not nearly slow enough now. With the added wear on his knees, he would make Smokey Burgess look like B. B. Richards.
  18. Back in the 70's some filmakers gave my friends and I a big banner that said "drop dead LeFlore" and filmed us holding it in the center field bleachers at Comiskey before a game. I assume they were making a movie about Ron Leflore, though I never saw it.
  19. Hermanson’s earned run average was 4.53? In the National league? I'm excited about the team this year, but it has very little to do with this guy. Hopefully Ozzie uses him in blowouts. By the way, ESPN says that Koch finished the year with a 4.41 ERA and numbers almost identical to Polittes'. (Can that be true!? He must have been decent for FLA.)
  20. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) Joe Cowley pitched his No hitter Sept 19th 1986 11-1 final If I remember correctly, he was almost pulled from that game after walking the bases loaded in the fourth or fifth inning.
  21. The White Sox acquired minor-league first baseman Travis Hinton Monday from the Milwaukee Brewers as the player to be named in the Carlos Lee trade. Hinton, 24, led Class A High Desert (California League) in almost every offensive category in 2004, batting .302 with 36 doubles, 22 home runs, 88 RBI and 80 runs scored in 137 games. (from the Trib online) ooops....already posted. How to delete?
  22. I know it's sad....pathetic even...but watching the Cubs collapse this week has been such a blast. Now THAT was must see TV. :fthecubs
  23. Freddy's not exactly Ernie Broglio, but I'm thinking the Sox are gonna be regretting this one for a long time.
  24. Well, I guess it's a matter of ones perspective. Lots of people loved Ozzie and thought he was a great player. I used to lie in bed at night imagining that if I was the manager of the Sox I would let the designated hitter hit for Ozzie instead of the pitcher just to humiliate his stupid f***ing b**** ass for being such a selfish me first hitter. He was a very good shortstop though. That only made me hate him more.
