QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) Danks is learning a cutter and Fields says: From the Sun-Times Joe Cowley blog. looks like mark's advice seems to be influencing him (i'm sure that's who gave him the idea to use a cutter, or coop mentioned it because of how effective buerhle's is)

slightly off topic, but i can't wait to see fields play this year http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/media/play..._free&_mp=1

my excitement has officially started some interesting quotes from ozz-ball: "Last year, I backed off a little bit," Guillen said. "I thought players were getting tired of 'There goes Ozzie again.' But if they get tired, good, that's the way I'm going to handle stuff. " "I'm getting back to being Ozzie," Guillen said. "I'm going to have fun and smile with the players, but if I have to scream at someone, I'm going to do it. I don't [care] if I'm going to be on every TV and people hate me for that. I get paid to win." "I'm going to be honest with him and expect him to be honest with me," said Guillen of Uribe. "If he's not happy or comfortable or being here would be bad for the club, then let me know and I'll let Kenny know and he can make a decision. I would love to keep him. " http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws The drama begins today!

Who is your favorite player currently on the Sox's MLB level team?

Dye (Not sure why he's not listed on the poll.) -
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 02:25 AM) The MLB's blackout restrictions are a joke. My father lives in Rockford, IL and can't get an mlb package that allows him to watch the St. Louis Cardinals (his team)... and they are 5.5 f***ing hours away! MLB refuses to do anything to address the issue either. hah. try living in cubs/cards country down here (Peoria area). Turn on FOX on a Saturday, to see the Sox game and instead you're stuck with the Cards playing ______ (insert NL team), instead. I've contacted my cable company about this as well, and there's nothign they can do about it apparantly.

QUOTE(ParkerBear7 @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 01:05 AM) My only problem with DictV is that you have to pay $ for the HD service, $ for the NFL Ticket and than once you are hooked on HD service they make you buy the superfan to get the NFL Ticket in HD. I can not pay the extra $ for the stupid superfan and it pisses me off that you have to pay twice for HD service but since I live out of state their is nothing I can do about it. the thing that sucks about MLB.tv, is the blackout restrictions I live in central IL, so we don't have WCIU, or Comcast HD (odd, because we have Comcast down here, and I have the HD Package.) When a game is broadcast on WCIU, I will not be able to watch it on MLB.tv because it's blacked out. They assume that, because I live in IL, and the game is being broadcast on an Illinois station, that I should be able to watch it, and thus am in the blackout-area. I bought a one month subscription to MLB.tv a year ago, and this is what happened, so I'm not just blowing smoke up everyone's you know what.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) That would be OPS, not average. I know what OPS is, but thanks for the insight. Average in the Cell is more important than total OPS because I'm putting more emphasis on SLG over OBP.. Walks get you one base if you're not a base stealing threat (Swish). Hits can net you multiple bases (SLG), and in a small park, SLG is an important factor. Batting Average ties directly to SLG. IMO SLG% is the more important part of OPS in a small park. That's all I'm saying
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 08:44 AM) Sure, but that's just looking at average. He's also got a career .806 OPS in July, with a .227/.356/.450 line. Granted, he's been much worse in June, but looking at batting average doesn't give the whole picture, especially with a player like Swisher who excels at drawing walks and getting on-base. Good post, but you looked way too much at his average as opposed to other numbers which might give a better representation of his offensive ability. batting average is a very important number for a hitter that plays half his games in arguably the best hitters park in baseball i'd say it's the most important offensive number given that he'll be playing in the cell most of the time

i wasn't aware there were so many gamers here on ST i noticed there are a few of you guys who play WOW, have any of you tried FFXI? it's a bit more hardcore and harder to just "pick up and play", but IMO has a deeper end-game, and it's more console-ish of an MMO (Think Final Fantasy, but multiplayer). I was a FF freak when I was younger, which is what tempted me to try out Final Fantasy XI, and I've been playing it for years also, i made a thread a while back about MLB Power Pros for the Wii, one of the deepest baseball games that I've played. It's mainly a baseball simulation game with as much depth as it has in pitching and hitting. fielding is very difficult for a novice player, which I actually like because it takes time to get really good. I guess some people would rather play a more "arcade-y" style baseball game. some PC games that I'm currently playing: The Ship (Source Mod, very fun). Think Spy vs. Spy for nintendo, but with more players, and on a Cruise Ship, in First-Person view Crysis Multiplayer (GREAT game, even better if you've got the machine to run it on high/very high settings in DirectX10 mode) Team Fortress 2 Frontlines: Fuel of War Beta (I love this game, I can't wait for it to come out. Made by the guy who created the Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942) Unreal Tournament 3 (I'm terrible at it, but it's kinda fun when you can find someone who's around your own skill level to play against) sorry for the rambling off-topic: did anyone stay up late enough to watch the Djokovic/Federer match last night? I'm not even a tennis fan and it was AMAZING

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 11:34 PM) I think maybe you have to have a MyNet station in your area. http://www.mynetworktv.com/stations.php yeah, WAOE-59 in peoria, which isn't comcast sports net, but some other junk station
-
so let me get this straight now, when games are on WCIU, they will be on my local comcast sports net station as well? last year i missed every wciu game because we don't get WCIU in central IL does this mean I will be able to watch literally every game now?

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) Don't have time to read the whole thread.. whats the latest with this 'rumor'? KW shot it down correct? http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines

curious if this kind of deal would be a possibility Angels get: Konerko Richar Chisox get: Kendrick Santana what do you think?
-
i have a feeling the absolute most we could get for konerko from the angels would be kendrick and santana, getting adenhart (one of their best prospects) just makes this seem unrealistic. even kendrick + santana seems kind of unrealistic, though i would do that deal in a heartbeat, even if it included crede

QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) For those interested. according to someone on ESPN boards who said they heard this on ESPN Radio 1000 earlier today I just had to laugh my ass off at this trade because of how ridiculous it is: LOL

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) I'd go with Swish leading off. He takes a lot of pitches (which is one area Pods was good at) and gets on base a lot. OCab is perfect for the 2 spot. Bump Fields, AJ and Quentin up a spot and put Richar at 9. because he never swung at anything -
Kenny to speak on the Swisher trade at 1pm, per George Hoffman just now.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 11:55 AM) Well, what did Kenny say? apparently they didn't air it. either i missed it (doubtful), or it's being postponed for another time slot
-
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 09:13 AM) Swisher >>>>> Rowand. That is all. defensively, no. but here's the thing: i agree with your post about swisher being better than rowand, at least at the Cell. Swisher is a better hitter, a better on-base threat, and can play multiple positions. when you play in such a small park, ultimately you can't ignore offensive production from any of your positions because other teams will score runs on you in a band box like the Cell, so you might as well put someone in CF who can adequately play the position but who will also put up some nice numbers as well to help your team compete offensively throughout the year for our team, swisher is a better CF option than rowand IMO. oh, and he's cheaper and younger too.
-
Kenny supposed to address the Swish trade at 11 on the score, I guess because of a lot of fans feelings on how much we gave up for him.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) Don't have a source, but I believe only the Astros were ranked below us in a recent poll. But after parting with our three brightest ... two and 6th brightest.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:47 PM) It seems pretty clear to me that Fields is going to go for a young pitcher. I think that is the next move. i hope not, we will be 3B-less in 09.
