QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 01:13 AM) Nobody wants a dynasty, that's crazy talk and unrealistic. We just want a team that doesn't suck, and we didn't have that last year, won't this year, and won't for the foreseeable future when you consider our FA spending habits, GM, and farm system. And all 3 are disasters right now. agree 100% it's one thing to get to and win the world series (in dominating fashion, no less), but its another when you are a completely miserable JOKE of a team many years before AND after that people want their team to win the world series and then at least be competitive for the years surrounding that title, so it makes the team at least appear to be competitive and ....uh, what's the word Good?

You're the GM. Firesale is the plan.

lol, cubs sign fukudome to a completely unreasonable contract and mere hours later we are getting the Firesale threads hilarious -
QUOTE(Vance Law @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) celebrate indeed. translation of the note from the poster of the vid "Big home run from Alexi Ramirez…..months after putting up this video, I edit the information to add that this wound up being the last home run for “Piri” (his nickname) en Cuba. Until Sept 18 nobody imagined it. Good luck “PIri”, from Cuba I hope to see you soon in the MLB." he has a great looking swing

the sad thing about this whole situation is even if we did get Cabrera and Willis and devoid our whole farm system of what little talent we have there, i still don't think that makes us a contender in this division, i'd imagine we'd see something along the lines of TIGERS ACQUIRE SANTANA or some other huge blockbuster deal

QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 05:07 AM) The sox are spending money. Did they not re-sign MB, Dye, AJ? Overpay to sign Linebrink? It's one thing to spend money. It's another to overpay so much [in terms of cash and young talent via trade] that it keeps you from improving the team for the next 5, 10 yrs. The sox may be put into the position of trading a guy like Pk to make up ground in the AL with Detroit and the Red sox w/ Santana because free agency isn't all that. i guess i should've been more clear in my post, i was having some difficulty wording it if the sox wanted to compete this year, they should've bumped the payroll up and made a serious offer to boras for Arod, i mean why not? the dude is a sure thing (you can argue towards his playoff reputation, but i'd wager most people would bet on his pure skill at the end of the day than what he's currently done in the post season for the yankees) thats the point i'm trying to make, next year when santana hits FA, and in 2 years for miggy, the sox should bump payroll or prep their payroll this year and next year for 2009 so they can make offers to these guys, because they are sure things but they won't, and thats what frustrates me. why won't they? why won't they go all the way and try to get someone like a santana or a cabrera or arod? some people will say "it's impossible, they don't have the money to attempt what you're asking", but I think its BS, and i think it would turn to be an investment especially since you aren't giving up our young talent to sign HOF free agents long term, you'd have a mixture of a veteran/young core of players who are most likely enough to help you contend for another title the players we've signed so far aren't going to help us get into the playoffs, not even close. and then you combine that with what Detroit just did, and wow. Detroit + Cleveland will be battling it out all year just like last year, and we'll be sitting here battling the Minnesota Devil Rays for 3rd and 4th place, god this sucks

QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 04:41 AM) I have a hard time believing Dye called up Kenny to rag him out. Kenny's main thrust to Aj, Dye and MB still holds true--That Kenny wants to contend in 2008 and 2009 not blow up the team. There is still time to get better. Hunter was signed to a ridiculous offer. The sox had the 2nd best.IMO, Detroit will get burned by the MCab deal. Esp when MCab can sign with the Sox in 2 yrs. do you honestly think the sox will pay cabrera what he'll be worth in 2 years? he could get a 20+ for 7-8 years from the right team, look what soriano got and he's older and a lesser player offensively and defensively. i don't see the sox paying anywhere close to that for any player here's what i don't understand about what this team does with their money. ultimately its about winning it all, and with that being the case, why not overspend on guys who are basically a sure thing (Arod for example, Santana when he hits FA, Cabrera in FA, etc.) when you know for a fact having these kinds of players will most certainly get you into the playoffs and possibly beyond whats the point of saving money if you're not building a team that can win? i don't see the point, it's ridiculous

QUOTE(Fantl916 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:24 PM) Just a question for those who care to give an opinion... But now that the Tigers seem absolutely loaded does anyone agree with me that maybe the White Sox should change directions a bit. Kenny and management have said that they want to win now, but it seems that after that trade that "on paper" they are well behind the Tigers, and I think theyre still behind the Indians... Is it time we shift directions a bit and go to the Angles with Konerko and get some quality young talent? then do the same with Crede, Thomse (if he'll wiave his no trade clause), and maybe the likes of Aj or Dye if we can get quality in return? Maybe Im just bummed after watching the Tigers pull off that blockbuster... their lineup is better than the Yankees or Red Sox by a ton IMO... Granderson, Polanco, Cabrera, Magz, Sheff, Guillen, Renteria, Pudge, and J. Jones... i mean wow... thats monstrous... If we cannot realistically put ourselves in position to make the playoffs i think we need to start going after young talent or some big guns... 2008 Playoffs American League NYY BOS DET LAA book it

Cabrera & Willis headed to Detroit (Per ESPNHD)
joejoesox replied to joejoesox's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:12 PM) I love the ESPNHD thing instead of ESPN for where it was reported from. Just made me chuckle a little. Remind me of my buddy who always drops the HD part into conversations as if it's a whole different network or company. I really can't stand this team so far. We are just pussies. Plain and simple. We don't pull the trigger on FA or trades when we should. All of us sit here and debate about not dealing our farm. What farm? The Tigers actually had a farm and were willing to deal it, so what does that say about an organization afraid to deal a s***ty one? It's not like we could've gotten much worse. Just frustrating. i don't even know why i typed ESPNHD instead of just ESPN, to be honest. i know it's the exact same broadcast, so whatever~ -
QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) Yeah, I saw that one. I guess I just don't buy this rumor anymore than the other. Mlb.com is reputable, but if the deal was all but finalized this afternoon, why would they plant an article about the White Sox at 5 pm? It doesn't add up... all the sox articles about cabrera have been pulled down, if you check
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) Can someone link me to where ESPN says the deal is done? the deal won't be finalized until tonight, so that's impossible it's on mlb.com's homepage though http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...7&fext=.jsp

Torii Hunter = He gawn! (to the Angels) :/

Oh well. Who's next on our list? MLB.com homepage for those wanting concrete evidence. Funny, KW got OC to land Hunter and instead Hunter goes with LA. Haha.

QUOTE(BamaDoc @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) Here was why I liked using Fields(assuming Crede is on the team as primary 3b) Thome: vs LHP avg. .196 OB+SP .664 vs RHP avg. .315 1.123 Fields: vs LHP avg. .321 OB+SP 1.069 vs RHP avg .213 OB+SP .677 Their averages are nearly mirror images. As much as Thome mashed rhp that is what Fields did to lhp. Hopefully, Fields can improve on what were pretty dismal numbers vs rhp with experience hence why I would still work him in for Crede. didn't fields go deep off santana twice in the same game? towards the end of the year edit: yup he did, http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=270921109

you'd have to think that if this got close to getting done, detroit and maybe even cleveland would try to c*ck block us with offering up a deal of their own to florida, afterall both of those teams could use an upgrade at third base (Inge is a bit better defensively but that's it, Blake is getting old) and left field (Lofton? lol, and cabrera >>> thames) i dunno, could be totally wrong about the whole thing, but would anyone be shocked at the last minute that detroit would try to pony up a deal of their own just to keep us from getting him?
-
screw winning this year, i don't want to see DLS, Carter, Fields, Danks, or Gio traded. I guess I'm the only person here who would be OK with watching the young talent that actually does exist on the farm, develop into major league talent i guess i just have a hard time believing that adding another bat to the lineup would help this team when we have so many other holes to fill

7-game LDS, 9-game LCS/WS, make it happen! didn't really put any thought into the pros/cons of a setup like this, i just thought it sounded funny

just want to state that the pituitary gland isnt' at the base of the brain, its behind your sinus cavity my dad's pituitary adenoma (growth) was removed through an invasive surgery through his nose, leaving no visible scarring which of course is nice! and he was put on a topical steroid called Andro Gel, so these types of growths often times require hormonal treatments such as steroids or hgh
-
boston wins this in 5 games, losing 1 in colorado, sigh.
-
story is legit from my own experience, my father had the same pituitary adenoma that byrd had and my father was prescribed a topical steroid (not HGH in his case but the same result) prior to his surgery and for a few months afterwards if byrd is crucified for this, i can only feel pity for all those uneducated individuals who don't know anything about the situation

Just bought this game a couple days ago and wow, it's amazing. I've played quite a few BB games over the years and this one is by far the best in terms of gameplay and depth. The amount of pitches that they included in the game is staggering. Fastball (2S/4S) Slider Hard Slider Cutter Curve Slow Curve Drop Curve (?) Slurve Knuckle Curve Sinker Hard Sinker Screwball Forkball, Palmball, Change, Circle Change, Vert. Slider, Knuckleball, Split, Foshball(?), Shuuto, Hard Shuuto, Sinker You can't throw any pitch you want, using any pitcher. Each MLB pitcher has their own arsenal of pitches that are for the most part accurate to their real-life counterpart (Some exceptions include Garland not having a sinker, Danks not having a Curveball, etc) The game also keeps track of how many times you've hit a certain pitch as well as recorded an out/struck out swinging on a pitch. Even keeps track of how many times you've fouled a ball off or swung and missed, on any type of pitch It has really simple graphics, something you'd think a kid would enjoy because of its simple looks but this game is like a strategy game in terms of how much depth it has. If anyone has a Wii (I think it's out for PS2 as well), I recommend renting/buying it, definitely the best baseball game I've played Btw it doesn't use the Wii Remote's motion sensor for batting/pitching like Wii Sports baseball does, but it would be a much simpler game if it did, and I think they tried to make this game as much of a Simulator as possible with the pitch location/swing aim that it currently has Here's a review @ IGN: http://wii.ign.com/articles/825/825828p1.html I dunno how many people here play videogames (seriously/casually or whatever), but the game is fun indeed

i have a gut feeling this game was over the minute the tribe signed Borowski

well this game is over

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 12:22 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2007...tory?id=3052904 man, the guy has absolutely no class whatsoever. but i wouldn't expect anything more tbh. i can't believe he put that out there to the media, that isn't something that needs to be said to reporters before the season is over, anyone disagree?

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 7, 2007 -> 11:19 AM) George Steinbrenner said this week that if Torre doesn't get his team to win the ALDS, he's as good as fired. Just curious, if he ends up on the market, would you like the idea of a Torre led White Sox? i've not seen this quoted anywhere, link?
