What are some teams that will be sellers at the trade deadline that would give away some good players, esp. pitchers, for minimal in return? I think we could get a couple good players still for a few prospects, and not mess too much with our ML roster.
I'd like another starter. I don't think Shoe is going to be durable enough down the stretch, and I'd like too see how he fares in the pen as a high-pressure mid to long relief guy. That is, if he stops whining like a b**** about it. We could get a #4(?) starter, someone at maybe around Garland talent level, or maybe even a little bit better, and righty setup man. Which would give us DOMINANT staff:
Buehrle
Garcia
Loaiza
(Trade)
Garland
Shingo
Marte
(Trade)
Adkins
Shoeneweis (?)
Cotts/Politte
As far as position players, we have a very sticky situation. Timo and Rowand have both been SOLID, and you still have to fit in Harris if hes not at 2nd. Then there is Lee and Maggs(who know what will happen with Maggs). Gload can play there if needed, but he'll be better at 1st.
Rowand was so amazing back in 2001, but he had to get on his motorbike or whatever and get crazy, and he hasn't been the same defensively since then. He's great, don't get me wrong, but we might want top move him and a prospect or two for a lefty bat.
I'm not sure of all the teams that are selling, but like last year, we can take advantage of their misfortune, and maybe get them to pay for parts of salaries.
