More camera angles? More camera angles -
My point is that it is absurd to say that Yolmer drives the ball compared to anyone. If you want a mid level outcome for Madrigal look to Marco Scutaro instead of Yolmer.
-
Yolmer "Drives the Ball" Sanchez had the lowest ISO among qualified hitters in baseball last season by nearly 30 points. 12 pitchers (min 50 PA) had higher ISO than Yolmer last year. It's fine if you are low on Madrigal, but obviously if he has less power than the worst power hitter in baseball his career isn't going to be anything special.

McCann's was 132 against LHP, it's not some huge drop off. I could see Grandal getting the start just because it's opening day, but McCann is going to catch Giolito more often than not and get some starts against LHPs. There's no reason to try to push Grandal into catching more than 120ish games.

I just felt that as the only White Sox fan that actually liked Gavin Floyd that I was honor bound to say something.
-
Gavin Floyd has more than 15 WAR by both bWAR and fWAR.
-
1. Anderson 2. Moncada 3. Abreu 4. Encarnacion 5. Jimenez 6. McCann 7. Robert 8. Mendick (2B) 9. Garcia (RF) Double dip of both Giolito starting and facing a lefty gets McCann the start at catcher. Mazara sits against Duffy as well.

I would be totally fine with Madrigal not making the list if Evan White also didn't make the list. White is just the first baseman version of Madrigal.

First 30/30 season since Joc Pederson ?
-
ZiPS doesn't and Steamer has Robert slightly ahead, but that's a playing time thing. Robert 2.9 WAR in 143 games (578 PA) with Pederson at 2.7 in 100 games (438 PA).
-
Joc Pederson and his .233 career batting average would project to be the best OF on the White Sox next year.
-
They are both on the strong side of the platoon since there are more RHP than LHP. Joc is a better player than Mazara in basically every aspect of the game so Mazara would be your 4th OF. If you carried both then one of Engel, Mendick, or Collins would not be on the team. My guess would be Collins. McCann, Mazara, Mendick/Leury, Engel would be able to adequately cover the bench roles. Against a LHP you would either play Engel or Leury in RF and Mendick could cover 2B if it were Leury in RF.

The Michigan State coaching search is a total clown show. You hate to see it. -
Both are unplayable against lefties. Pederson career wRC+ against LHP: 57 Mazara career wRC+ against LHP: 59 I would be very happy with Mazara as a 4th OF. He could come in and play RF late in games and Pederson could move over to LF. Either Pederson or Mazara could DH against RHP and Pederson even played a little 1B last year (though he was terrible at it). Pederson can also fake it in CF if Robert gets dinged up and misses a few games, but if Robert were to go on the IL then Engel would probably have to be called up.
-
Any chance he'll be stateside this year? I really hope he at least gets a shot in short season ball this year.
-
Actually, it is good that the White Sox acquired a worse player in Nomar Mazara. Someone will be by shortly to explain why.

What would it take to get Nolan Arenado?

Hmm, suddenly this rumor is a lot more credible. -
Change the PAs to 1500 under 25 and you more than double the amount of players that qualify. There are some guys that break out but most of the guys at the bottom of the list just don't end up being that good.
-
Past production is the number one indicator of future results. What even is this question? It's not even like we're dealing with a small sample here. This is basically four full seasons of results. Being on the list of players to get 2000+ PA under 25 is certainly indicative of some combination of talent, performance, and opportunity. He's still young, but to say his upside hasn't changed is crazy to me. He hasn't improved at all over four years. There's not no upside here as his similarity scores on baseball-reference feature multiple hall of famers still, but Jeff Francoeur is number 2 and that seems like a much more likely career path than him suddenly breaking out and being good to me. I would gladly be wrong and take a Jay Bruce career, who is number 6 most similar.

Since 2016 All-time under 25 Since 1980 under 25 (it's actually 76 out 77)
-
There are 96 players that have at least 2000 PA since 2016 when Mazara was called up to the majors. Mazara ranks 93rd. But Mazara was extremely young during that time you say. True, so let's look at historical numbers. In the history of baseball Mazara is among only 267 players that have amassed 2000 or more PAs before turning 25. Among those he is the 257th most valuable. Since 1980 there have been 78 such players. Mazara ranks 77th. Only Delmon Young has been a bigger bust among players to garner significant playing time. But other guys have gotten better! Mazara is a guy! He'll get better!

I'm not complaining, I'm just pointing out that a 27 year old RF with an .876 OPS that is also the superior defender of the two is a better player and wish the White Sox had acquired him. That's a bridge too far for many though.
