Aren't the Sox more likely to be ready in 2021 than 2020?
TomPickle replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes, if the White Sox fail to acquire an additional quality players then they probably won't compete in 2020. Seems like you're halfway there OP, keep at it. -
Well, looks like Bumgarner is the target now.

I was saying Rendon at 3B in 2018 and 2017 were both better than Moncada at 3B in 2019. That's also true of Rendon's 2016 and 2014 seasons. He's good defensively. I know he's older than Moncada and there is still time for Moncada to grow at 3B. I just don't think it would really be much of a step down, if any, to have Rendon play 3B instead of Moncada. I know some guys are just bad at reading balls off the bat in the outfield, but someone with the speed of Moncada and his arm should be able to move to RF without issue. I guess he could see it as a "demotion" defensively, like when guys don't want to move off SS to 3B, 2B or CF.
-
He moved to 3B though and for no reason in particular. Why would he be so against moving to RF? Derek Jeter had been the Yankees SS for 8 years. Moncada has been at 3B for 1 year. Moncada was "better" at 3B last year than Rendon, but both of Rendon's previous two seasons were better than Moncada's 2019 season defensively. It's probably about a wash defensively to have Rendon play 3B.

Rendon is the lowest risk major impact player on the market right now. The White Sox have a massive hole in RF and it seems pretty likely that Moncada would capably play there. "Moving" Moncada isn't a negative to me if he is being replaced by a superstar level player. Cole is a virtual lock to be the highest paid player this off-season. Strasburg and Rendon will probably sign for closer money and between the two I would lean Rendon, but I would be fine with Strasburg too.
-
Obtaining one of the 10 best players in baseball seems like a good allocation of resources to me. Especially so when it's obvious that the White Sox aren't going to go out and spend to get either Cole or Strasburg. I guess it's equally obvious they won't get Rendon though so meh.

If Tsutsugo is a DH and not an OF then I would honestly rather just sign Thames.

Surprised this hasn't brought on a rash of "OMG Nimmo/Conforto!!!" takes from the users that seem dead set on acquiring one of those guys.

Cole Hamels to the Braves, 1 year $18 Million.
TomPickle replied to YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
If there's any team I trust to sign multiple players to short term contracts for cheap and have them perform, it's the White Sox. Why spend $18 million on a solid #4 starter when you could have an unplayable DH, an instantly injured OF, and a significantly worse #4 starter for just $3 million more? -
Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer

Well thank goodness the focus is on a guy who has done it three times in 6 years instead! -

You're leaving out a crucial percentage of non-guaranteed money on your pie chart on the left. -

I only want the White Sox to sign Wheeler if he is forced to wear number 18. -

WHOSE MANS IS THIS -
Sox Non-Tender Yolmer, Frare, Burr, Release Veiera
TomPickle replied to hogan873's topic in Pale Hose Talk
A few interesting names there. Travis Shaw was just non tendered too. -
Tatis Jr still wouldn't have made him MLB debut if he were still with the White Sox. He probably would have been called up to AAA in August last year with Madrigal.
-
So, Eric Thames for DH to play against righties? Grandal can catch against righties and DH against lefties. McCann can catch against lefties and maybe be Giolito's personal catcher if that's what he wants.
-
This is already a better off-season than I anticipated just with this one signing. Hell yes.

Sox trade rights to Welington Castillo to rangers
TomPickle replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Theoretically they saved themselves $750k. $500k buyout on Castillo and $250k they could have spent in the international free agent market. -

I hate this organization -
The silliest thing to me is that his speed grade hasn't budged at all either. He had the fastest sprint speed in the AFL and in the Futures Game and he can't even get bumped to a 70. That's just ignoring empirical data for no reason. It's absurd to me.
-
The issue here isn't just whether or not Machado is worth $300 million (I believe he is), but what is wasting Giolito's and Moncada's breakthrough seasons worth? What is giving a plausible reason to keep Luis Robert down in the minors for the entirety of this season worth? What is shrinking the window for when your core will be in the majors at the same time together worth? All of these things can be mitigated by spending this off season, but I sure don't have faith in this front office/ownership right now. And for another matter, what is not pissing off your fanbase worth? I know attendance is up, but I haven't gone to a game this year and I don't plan to either. I don't go to a ton of games, but usually at least 5 per year. If the Sox signed one of Machado or Harper I would have gone to at least that many this season.

Bailey 3-3 with a 2B and a 3B

Bailey saw he didn't make the Future Sox top 30 and figured he show you bastards.
