And Vaughn is a 30 runner stuck at 1B. Vaughn needs to be, what, one of the 5/10 best hitters in baseball to be a 5 win player? Madrigal needs to merely below average at hitting for power for a shot to be a 5 win player.
-
It seems almost impossible to me than Madrigal won't be at least an average everyday player. If he even develops the power to hit 15 HRs he's going to be a perennial All-Star. Vaughn has a way lower floor and probably a lower ceiling as well.

Sox claim 1b A.J. Reed off waivers AND send him to majors
TomPickle replied to smalls2598's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Give him 4 ABs a week in the majors, duh. -
Do we have any precedent for guys getting promoted from the DSL mid-season? Maybe it was a mistake having him down there instead of the AZL, but I don't know if having him move to another country to play 30 games is worth it either.
-
No one in the system has done anything to jump him. I'm definitely more skeptical on him than I was a year ago, but the guys that were 6-15 or whatever that could have bumped him back haven't performed or are hurt too.

Calling them up in September vs. calling them up to start the 2020 season changes nothing in terms of team control so this is really option 1 vs. option 3. If I had more faith in the front office to be able to fill in the spots left behind when Giolito, Anderson, and Moncada hit free agency I think it would be worth it to maximize team control for Madrigal and Robert rather than try to maximize this particular contention window. I don't have that faith though and I want both of those guys to get a September call-up to get their feet wet and see how they will be pitched to at the MLB level.

1. Robert 2. Madrigal 3. Kopech 4. Cease 5. Vaughn 6. Dunning 7. Basabe 8. Walker 9. Rutherford 10. Adolfo It really drops off after 5/6 (depending on how you feel about TJ recoveries), but with some of the performances in the lower minors the back end of the top 30 is at least more interesting than a bunch of college relievers and possible 5th starter types.

Robert is #4 in BP's mid-season top prospects.

Seems like an 80 grade run tool to me. -
I believe it is also going to be streaming on mlb.com

Both are in the starting lineup for the AL.

GT: Tigers (27-53) @ White Sox (40-42), July 3

I didn't see much of the first game other than his horrific base running, so my apologies. -

Have yourself a damn game, Ryan Cordell. -
I know Eric Longenhagen makes it out to a decent number of AZL games. I hope he tries to see the Sox team before Vaughn moves up and tells us all about this exciting young 18 year old he saw in addition to Vaughn.

Giolito has been the best player on the team (and is better looking than Moncada don't @ me).

FS: Vaughn Debuts, plus highlights from AZL White Sox

Merkin had a more direct reading of whatever Getz said. -
I'm honestly not even sure what it means to sign a guy to a 2020 contract. I guess since they're 16 it's fair game and just a money thing. But I'd guess they aren't allowed to play in the DSL or go to Arizona in backfield games either.

I was at the game where Mike Cameron hit 4 home runs against the Sox. We had tickets from my mom's work, so we were in what are today the scout seats. Jeff Cirillo started the game 0-3 with a sacrifice fly. I believe it was starting in the 7th inning that a fan in our section started yelling at him, "HITLESS IN SEATTLE, CIRILLO!" and in that AB he grounded out to SS. The next AB the fan was giving it to him even harder, but still yelling, "HITLESS IN SEATTLE!" Well in his last AB Jeff Cirillo hit a home run and after he rounded third base he gave this guy a stare down the entire way to home plate. As I recall the fan played it off pretty well and I think gave him a standing ovation.

Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
TomPickle replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
To be clear, I didn't and don't think Colome nets the Sox Waters. That was a proposal of both Colome and Bummer in an effort to try to get a similar return to Meijia where dealing both of those guys might be worth it. -
To the people in this thread that think the Sox are unlikely to keep Robert after he's no longer arb eligible: what makes you think Giolito, Moncada, Kopech, and Anderson will still be around then? 7/8 years from now is a complete and total crapshoot. Getting an extra year of service from Robert doesn't move the needle for me.

I pretty much figured before this year that there was no chance we'd see Robert in the MLB this year as he simply needed more ABs. He only had 96 games of pro experience (including Arizona Fall League last year) since signing with the Sox. He has far surpassed any reasonable expectations and at this point I have no problem with him getting the call to the majors. I know his approach is still pretty unrefined, but even if he struggles at first at the plate he'll be a more valuable player than Cordell/Tilson. Giving him the call now when he can play CF everyday with Anderson on the IL also makes a ton of sense, but I give it a 0% chance of happening. I said this more in relation to Nick Madrigal than Robert in a FutureSox thread, but Madrigal I can see benefiting from a chance at getting some ABs in AAA with the juiced ball to see if he can tweak his swing/approach a little bit in an effort to hit a few more home runs/extra base hits. Robert has so much raw power that really isn't an issue even in Birmingham. Or those really cool beer steins they're giving out against the Rangers.
