  2. This is just plainly false. Among qualified hitters he wouldn't have even lead (or finished last?) the major leagues in GB%. Ian Desmond, Eric Hosmer, Jon Jay(!), and Jonathan Villar all had higher ground ball rates than Madrigal did last year in the minors. If you drop the PAs to 170, which Madrigal would have qualified for he drops to 13th just ahead of Dee Gordon. Looking at the list of the highest ground ball rates is not exactly a who's who of the best hitters in baseball, but Lorenzo Cain, Juan Soto, and Christian Yelich all had 50% ground ball rates. Madrigal's 55.4% coming off a broken wrist in his first taste of pro ball isn't alarming to me.
  3. Their starting pitching remains suspect, but maybe Jimmy Nelson comes back from his shoulder injury better than pitchers typically do.
  4. He's also a guy that could make a ton of sense for the White Sox next off season depending on what Collins and Zavala do this year.
  5. Didn't see that one coming. NL Central should be fun next year.
  6. There is no need to compound the failure that would be missing on Machado by signing Moustakas for no reason.
  7. I'm sorry for not posting this in the official Manny rumors/music thread, but this seems more appropriate here.
  8. It reads exactly like those fake "I had my computer watch 4700 hours of Law & Order SVU episodes and this is the script it wrote" tweets lol.
  9. Seems like this could just as easily be about Harper as it is Machado. Making it seem like they aren't solely focused on Harper for leverage sake. One of these guys needs to sign soon please.
  10. I misunderstood your point and made my post before seeing this one. My bad. Count me squarely in the "winning creates chemistry" camp. This off season just has me stir crazy.
  11. Kelvin Herrera has a World Series ring. How many other players on the White Sox roster can say the same? Just one, the other guy we signed.
  12. Engel's projections are with 434 PAs and Jay's are with 203 PAs. Obviously if they put up the same fWAR next year then Jay is twice the player Engel is!
  13. Using your own logic here, what if these are $13 million for Alonso and Jay are $13 million unspent dollars from last year that is essentially free money that can be used for recruiting this year?
  14. How do you figure that? Alonso will likely replace Delmonico's ABs in the lineup and he's a better hitter than Delmonico. Jay will most likely cut into Engel's playing time and everyone is a better hitter than Engel. McCann is a backup catcher and will probably get ~200 ABs that won't be massively different than what Kevan Smith provided, but he will probably be a slight downgrade, I'll grant you that one.
  15. Using your 4 year window Jay ranks 14th among CFs with at least 1000 PAs during that time frame. He is a competent player with solid on base skills. We're just going to keep talking back and forth without solving anything obviously, but this move has literally no downside. He is not preventing a signing of Harper, Pollock, etc. or blocking any real prospect from getting playing time. You are just being mad about this to be mad about this.
  16. Do you want to play the guy with the .279, .294, or .296 OBP from last year over him instead? No one is forcing you to be excited about Jon Jay. He is definitively "just a guy", but the current state of the White Sox outfield is atrocious. He is a competent big leaguer. He is cheap and signed on a short term deal and maybe gives you just the slightest boost to the possibility of signing Machado. He does not prevent another signing of an outfielder as he could just as easily be a 4th OF and that's honestly what he should be on a better team. Unfortunately, the White Sox are not yet that team and have an entire outfield comprised of 4th OFs at best.
  17. Exactly, no one worth a damn was getting blocked by Adam Engel. If Basabe or someone else breaks through and earns a call-up to the majors they won't be blocked by Jay either. Jay would just be a perfectly competent 4th OF at a reasonable price.
  18. Imagine seeing a one year, four million dollar signing of a player that will be the best outfielder on the roster on opening day and being mad about it.
  19. Rumor, but rumors about guys of Jon Jay's caliber turn into signings.
  20. uh oh, looks like another user has burned their bridge with their #source
  21. Here's a clip of just the segment for those interested
  22. It was pretty brief. He spent a lot of time dumping on the White Sox and reiterated that he, personally, did not say that Machado was signing with the White Sox just that someone he talked to believed that was the case.
