  1. Having never been to New York I can confirm that this is what everyone from New York is like.
  2. You can listen to it here without a login: https://player.fm/series/dodger-talk-2284357
  3. The main thing I took from it was the guarantee that Machado would sign with the White Sox
  4. Did anyone happen to see Bob Nightengale's most recent tweet regarding the Tulo signing?
  5. IDK, I'm pretty sure Barry Bonds was worth 118 wins offensively in 2001.
  6. It's not official until peavy44's source confirms it.
  7. Cruz and Alonso certainly aren't the exact same player and maybe Alonso helps land Machado, but hard to think that Cruz doesn't out produce Alonso by $5 million next year.
  8. Castillo was worth 2.7 fWAR in 2017 in 96 games. He could put up the same fWAR in 2018 in say 125 games and then McCann would have to pick up the slack to get to 3.3 fWAR as a position. I also wasn't necessarily worrying about tenths of a win as that seems needlessly exact for a metric that contains defensive ratings as a portion of value.
  9. Those are increases in WAR from the 2018 season. So Castillo would be worth ~3 fWAR, Abreu/Alonso ~2 fWAR, etc
  10. Yeah, this is almost sure to not happen. It's also projecting another 6 fWAR season from Machado, which is plausible, but not what I would expect certainly in basically any season for a player that isn't Mike Trout. If the team were largely unchanged from the current roster other than adding Machado a very nice step forward would be 75 wins. If that happens then there is real optimism for the 2020 season where you could see Kopech and Cease added to the rotation and maybe one of the CF prospects can break into the lineup as an everyday player and offer an upgrade from Engel.
  11. Let's be optimistic for next year in adding wins C : Castillo - +0 1B: Abreu/Alonso +1 2B: Moncada +2 SS: Anderson +1 3B: Machado +4 LF: Jimenez +3 CF: Engel +0 RF: Palka/Delmonico +0 DH: Abreu/Alonso/Palka +0 SP: Rodon +3 SP: Lopez +1 SP: Nova +0 SP: Giolito +2 SP: Covey +0 Of course WAR =/= wins outright but that's 17 WAR added there, which brings them to 79-83. Some guys are going to have down years though or just not improve. It doesn't seem wildly unrealistic this could be a .500 team with Machado and another competent position player and a bullpen piece or two.
  12. If people were mad about the acquisition of Yonder Alonso they should be equally mad at signing Adam Jones. It seems very unlikely he'd be cheaper than Alonso and he isn't a better player at this point in his career and he would further cut into the playing time of Palka/Delmonico.
  13. This is like if the Sox would have traded for Machado last year but also decided to take on Adam Jones so we could be marginally better and had to give up a better prospect.
  14. This just sucks for baseball in general. What the hell are the Reds doing with this trade?
  15. Not with Arenado and Rendon potentially hitting the free agent market next year.
  16. Yeah, I wouldn't mind a trade where the Sox got Kemp, Wood, and Verdugo, but they would have to send back a real prospect in return. Dunning maybe?
  17. I don't know if there's language in place to stop teams from blatantly doing stuff like this, but if there isn't what's stopping a team from offering a 15 year deal where the last 5 years are all at $1 million with a player opt out before those 5 years? You could shave a ton off the AAV by doing something like that if you're trying to get around the luxury tax.
  18. I'm old enough to remember when this thread was for specious rumors.
  19. I've been told from a trusted source that length isn't everything.
  20. all of your cuban are belonging to us But seriously, this is just good for baseball in general. The fact that it might help the White Sox in particular is just icing on the cake.
  21. Odds are via Bookmaker EU which is a real website at the very least.
