  1. Wainwright is better than Cease and Lopez so I'm in on a short deal. I would have preferred Kluber, but at ideally you're just looking for him to make 10 starts at the beginning of the year. If Lopez is your #6 starter to start the year and then he's #7 whenever Kopech is ready I think that's totally fine. I would much rather they try to find a Nova level starter and spend on a DH, but it kinda looks like finding a Nova and doing nothing at DH which would be bad, obviously.
  2. Yep, and then scrape the bottom of the barrel with guys like Brad Miller or Jonathan Villar and maybe you cobble together league average play there.
  3. There's no arguing whether or not it was in the budget. He didn't sign with the White Sox so it obviously wasn't in the budget. You're not going to win dollar per WAR championships playing at the top of the market. It is my belief that the White Sox currently have a three year window to win a World Series and I'm a lot less worried about what happens after that.
  4. There's a very real chance Springer puts up more WAR in 2021 than those three guys do in the remainder of their careers combined.
  5. Agreed guys, White Sox have to keep that powder dry so they can also pass on more top level free agents next year.
  6. Nick Tropeano is a guy I would like to see the Sox sign in the 'dumpster diving' tier of free agents.
  7. If you aren't going to be able to get Burnes with a second tier package, and you likely won't be able to, then why not just go for Woodruff if you are going to make a deal for a Brewers SP?
  8. This is what I want too, but since it won't happen I have set my cheap DH sights on CJ Cron.
  9. $54 million 'guaranteed' keeps being said in reports so my guess is 3/$50 with a $4 mil buyout in year four.
  10. I wish I had any faith at all that the White Sox would keep spending money after this so I could be happy about it. $25 million for Eaton and Hendriks. Give me Springer for $25 million every day of the week.
  11. IDK seems kinda unlikely the Cubs trade back for Schwarber.
  12. The White Sox drafted a hall of famer in Chris Sale and thought they could replicate his path to success with Rodon, failed miserably and now are going to just shoot their shot again. It's very cool.
  13. I was pretty young at the time, but one of the main criticisms I remember against WGN when they owned the Cubs was that they ran it like a business. Every team is run like a business now and it sucks.
  14. Only 1 pitcher in the last decade has thrown 100 innings or more out of the bullpen. That is not a reasonable model to be working with.
  15. I think Hand is fine, but the worry I have with him is that whenever he loses it he's REALLY going to lose it and just be toast. That probably won't be next year though.
  16. I never wanted Hendriks because if they whiffed on him maybe they'll sign Brantley or something idk. Fatalism! Fatalism! Fatalism!
  17. Looks like the Reds are getting a little shorted there, not sure they would take it unless 0.7 VALUE is added on the White Sox end.
  18. I agree with this. Of the rumored names (Castillo, Marquez, Snell, and Darvish) on the market for starting pitching I have the least faith in Snell over the next three years. Obviously Snell is going to get a bigger prospect return than Darvish since he's younger and costs basically half as much, but just for on field performance he's the one I wanted the Sox to trade for the least.
  19. Wilcox = Kelly Hunt = Sheets? Hard to say exactly what Mejia is worth right now given that he's 24 and has struggled, but he was a top 20 prospect at one point. Collins would be the closest in the Sox system, but he has next to no value imo and I don't think that's true of Mejia. Never mind on Hunt, looks like he's a legit catching prospect. White Sox package would have to look drastically different than this one and would have to include Kopech and Vaughn most likely to match the return here.
  20. If that's the return on Snell I think the dreams of acquiring either Marquez or Castillo are dead.
  21. $82M over the next 3 with his buyout! I would do it if the Reds chipped in $5M a year probably if I was confident that the level he's dropped off to the last two years is where he's done dropping off to, but I don't really think you can bank on that.
  22. How much cash would the Sox need to come their way to do Vaughn for Castillo and Votto straight up?
  23. Castillo has the same amount of team control as Giolito and is approximately as good of a pitcher. Whatever the ask for Giolito would be is the same the Reds would want for Castillo if there wasn't money changing hands. How much is money worth to the Reds? Hopefully a lot lol.
