  1. From what I looked up, the White Sox made $288 million dollars in revenue in 2023. And that was with a 100 loss team that was total dogshit. You could probably double that number by investing into your roster to get the stadium filled and a good product on the field. This isn't Wrigley, people aren't going to come to White Sox games for a historical stadium regardless of how bad the team is. The whole angle of attendance is low so payroll needs to be low makes no sense to me in a world where the product you put on the field is directly related to the money that goes into your pocket for 99% of these teams.
  2. Did they though? Madrigal put up 1.7 bWAR in 83 games for the Sox. He slashed .317 / .358 / .764, which for a no power 2B is perfectly acceptable. Once he left though, he bottomed out.
  3. I wish they did too, and they could if they wanted to but the man in charge does not want to. Its not about not having the money, its just a flat out refusal to pay players what they are worth on the market or even to keep your own. All these guys are making stupid money and I won't entertain any argument that every team in the league couldn't have just signed Snell to the same contract as the Dodgers all things considered. "Oh but we don't make enough profit to spend like that." The White Sox are worth over $2 Billion dollars, businesses that don't make any money aren't worth billions of dollars. Every team in MLB is worth over $1 billion minimum. Its not a baseball problem, its a crusty old geriatric owner problem.
  4. What's broken? Are we supposed to shame the Dodgers for doing what other teams choose not to do? I hope they sign Soto next and JR gets all butt hurt about it. "Look at these guys just spending money on good players, what the hell is that about??"
  5. Just because they don’t have a great track record of development doesn’t mean they never develop anyone.
  6. This team is the least talented team in baseball, coming off a 121 loss season, and looking to trade their two best remaining assets. They aren't going to be spending money, and they have a terrible track record with development. Its going to be an extremely long road to get competitive again before 2028. Next year is going to be just as bad as 2024. Then you are hoping they start taking steps in 2026 and 2027. If they get some gems from development and nail trades of Crochet and Robert, then you may be looking at 2027 as a best case scenario. Do people not realize how dire this situation is?
  7. Its not the GM that's the problem, its the owner.
  8. There is so much more that goes into this other than just trading Crochet for prospects. Obviously, in a perfect world you never trade Crochet because he is worth way more than 3 prospects who you have no idea how they will turn out. Crochet just proved that he can stay healthy and pitch at a very high level. The problem is, the White Sox will never meet the price that will be required to sign him to an extension. So you are left with the options of trading him now when his value will never be higher, or you can go ahead and let him pitch the next two seasons for a losing team and watch him walk away for a middling comp pick. It seems not only an easy choice, but logical, to trade him this offseason. And this is solely because the White Sox don't want to pay for top end starting pitchers.
  9. Their total payroll was $203 million, I was just using the active roster example to show the difference between having star power and spreading money out around average players. The White Sox had to pay Dallas Keuchel $18 million to not play for them in 2022.
  10. Here's the difference.. 2022 White Sox active roster payroll: $155,000,000 with no superstars just a collection of mediocre to ok players all making between 8-18 million. This is why you have an 81-81 team that can't get over the hump, among other things. 2024 Dodgers active roster payroll: $172,000,000 with superstar players like Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Shohei Ohtani. 98 wins and a championship, nothing more to say. The White Sox will spend money, but they spend it in a totally inefficient way that is never going to work in todays game. The White Sox would rather have Joe Kelly, Kendall Graveman and AJ Pollock at a combined $29 million dollars than Bryce Harper at $27 million.
  11. Just to clarify, im not mad or upset by this. I just don't want to see another season of garbage filtered through the MLB team without taking chances on higher upside players.
  12. What's upsetting is this is the same type of move that fueled the worst season in baseball history. I couldn't care less about Penn Murfee, but it would sure be nice to see my favorite team take some swings at anyone who could possibly have a future here one day.
  13. I get that he’s just a body most likely but man there’s no way there isn’t someone more interesting or talented on the waiver wire that might be worth something one day, even if that chance is remote.
  14. Man are there no young guys with promising arms to take chances on? We don't need to be recycling 30 somethings on the waiver wire. This guy didn't even pitch last season outside of one horrible A ball outing.
  15. I agree with this, but at the same time find it hard to believe they would non tender Gavin Sheets at 2ish million with how much run he got last season.
  16. Even if Eder flames out, it was always the right call to trade Burger. He's a 0-1 WAR DH, for a team that was going to lose 100 games and then lost 121 the following season there was no reason at all to keep him at his peak value.
  17. I would say its almost a certainty that Kopech had something extra the Sox couldn't get out of him that the Dodgers could, maybe mechanics/repertoire or effort. Kopech was 100% better with the Dodgers than the White Sox. That's for sure. Whether that was pure dumb luck or coaching/instruction, I don't think you can definitively say either way at this point.
  18. Kopech strikes me as the kind of guy who mentally checked out with the Sox and then turned it up to 11 when he was dealt to an actual premiere organization. Feels like the same situation with Luis Robert unfortunately, he looks like he would rather be doing anything else than playing for the White Sox.
  19. There is a difference between genuine excitement and "About time they did something right" excitement. Im like Randy Quaid in Major League right now until proven otherwise. Ok, big deal they finally made a good move they'll still blow it. I think we can all agree the White Sox have to earn our excitement back at this point.
  20. This is a nice hire on paper and definitely not what I expected them to do. I still don't really see any reason to be excited though, team is still ass and were all going to wait for baseball to be back only to watch another 100+ loss season. At least its a step in the right direction.
  21. No, I have no faith at all in them making the right hire. This is the same organization whose owner hired his 80 year old buddy to make up for a mistake from 30+ years ago when they were entering their contention window. That's not a serious organization.
  22. We’re talking about Robin Ventura, who didn’t even want to be a manager. Rick Renteria, who was never a serious long term guy. An 80 year old Tony LaRussa who had no business whatsoever being manager. And Pedro Grifol who was flat out bad at his job. None of those guys fit the bill of an up and comer. It’s not like we’re bringing in blue chips who all see their futures go down the drain when they put on the Sox hat. These are trash hires.
  23. Getz was hired because he already knew the organization and JR didn't want to waste a year, yet, it took him almost all year to fire a lot of these guys who we already knew sucked at their jobs. Which again tells me that in no way, shape, or form did they expect to be a 110 loss team. Everyone got fired because you simply cannot keep your job when you are the worst team in this sports history. Look anywhere in sports, 99.9% of the time a new GM comes in it gets gutted and replaced with their guys top to bottom with the occasional guys who stay on. The White Sox promote a guy who was already here and should know damn well who shouldn't have a job and heads don't start rolling until the massive black eye of the worst season in sports history starts swelling. You think all these people get fired if the team goes 75-87? Yeah right.
  24. The White Sox were 10-42 Vs. the AL Central this year and put up a whopping .216 / .272 / .608 slash line as a team in those 52 games. Its crazy to think how different the MLB landscape is this season if there wasn't a little league team playing in it.
