I’m trying to wrap my head around the benefit of firing him in the offseason as opposed to already. I think they know this is a rebuild and they think Pedro is their guy.
-
I believe this now makes the Sox 1-17 against central teams not from Cleveland. Oof.
-
This is personal preference and im not going to speculate on it because I have no idea what hes thinking. I would assume, based on him putting his foot down and saying "I want to be a starting pitcher" he believes in himself. Most of the time these buy out extensions are for young guys who often haven't even made any meaningful impact on the big club. This situation to me seems a little different. If the Sox in the offseason extended him 5/75 before he ever took the mound as a starter, ok maybe, but then why would the Sox do that? Just seems a little too late at this point to get a deal done the Sox would be comfortable with.
-
If the options are sign a 5 year $75 million extension right now, and make $30 million over the next two years but only $45 million over the following three. OR Go to Arbitration right now, and make approx. $20 million over the next two years but then make $200 million (and probably more) over the following 5+ years. Im no agent, but I know what I would be campaigning for..

Again, if you're Crochet and you are establishing yourself as one of the top pitchers in baseball, you aren't going to agree to a $20 million team option to buy out 1 year of FA when he could hit the market and instead get $30+ on a long commitment. The sad reality is, unless the White Sox get out of their old ways there is no extension they will offer that would be fair to what Crochet is becoming worth.
-
Good luck winning an arbitration case against him if he goes on to pitch 150 innings and is one of the top 3 pitchers in the league. Also, why on earth would he sign a 5 year extension worth $15 million per year when he could be looking at $30 million per year in 2 seasons?

Hes not going to play 162 games. The avgs of 30 doubles and 20 HR's is based off playing 162 games. Obviously, he is capable of reaching those numbers without playing a full slate but when using that as evidence that its his floor, its kind of flawed because even if fully healthy he wouldn't be playing all 162 games. It just doesn't happen anymore.
-
If he plays 162 games, yes he will hit 30 doubles and 20 HR's. That's not going to happen though.
-
Yes, “recently” lol You also said his floor is 30 doubles 20 HRs and a .750 OPS when in 3.5 years thats more like his ceiling than his floor.

How about the eye test?

White Sox "actively seeking" packages for Robert

Crochet is also on pace to be one of the better SP in baseball this season. I think you can kiss the chances of a team friendly extension goodbye at this point. -
Has it? His first game was on May 17. In May he got 12 games with 10 starts. In June he has 13 games with 12 starts.
-
I wouldn't get my hopes up for Julks, but either way he should be out there everyday to see if you have anything.
-
He started out hot but is hitting like .196 with a .590 OPS in June.

Welp Thorpes out, don’t have to watch this trash anymore.
-
Thorpe, woof.
-
What a disastrous start for Thorpe. He looks awful.
-
s%*# he’s already at 3.1 bWAR
-
He’s just annoying.
-
I tried to be patient, but Schriffen ain’t it. This guy sucks.
-
I thought they should have resigned him. Obviously, that would have been a disaster. He had a 4.3 bWAR season in 2022, its pretty crazy that he didn't just decline he fell straight off the cliff at lightspeed.
-
Im not sure you get anything more than we got for him holding out using hindsight. He is having a much better season than 2023 currently, but he is pacing out more like 2021 Cease and not 2022 Cease. Also, I would assume he would have slightly worse numbers on this team than on San Diego, so I consider that as well.
