I would trade Dunn to Florida for Mike Stanton

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) He'd be an upgrade for the Orioles, too. But there's no point. We'd be rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. If we acquired Thome, say, 2 months ago, it'd be a benefit. At this point, it's too little too late. lol ok, now you're just a hater and there is no point in trying to discuss this with you.. the Orioles are damn near 30 games out of first place, were not..
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) That has been my point this entire time. It does not benefit the Sox to claim him, so why do it? It only serves to screw him out of a chance to win a title. Really? There is no benefit from claiming him? Would he not be an upgrade over a guy in our lineup hitting .169?

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) And I've been extremely right so far. The only reason we've remained "in" the race is because of the s***tiness of the division. And since then, the Tigers have gotten even better. I've also said since the beginning that the Sox could still win the division, due only to how bad it is, but that we would do absolutely nothing if we miraculously made the playoffs. I don't think we've gained on the Tigers in over a month or two. I see nothing changing. Yes, the fact that the division is s***ty is a perfect example of why we can still win it with so many games left against these same s***ty teams..

QUOTE (MAX @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) The thought that we shouldn't take him because we might hurt his chances at a championship never crossed my mind because as I said, its too unpredictable to pick a champion right now. I'm not even certain which teams are going to be in the playoffs save a few. I thought the thread was made to discuss if the white sox would benefit from claiming him in the long and short term. Clearly we would benefit from claiming him since Dunn has been completely worthless all year long, there isnt anything really long term about it

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:17 PM) He'd be a pinch hitter, and likely a good one. And I can't believe you actually would believe that's s***tier. But then again, I can't believe you actually think there's a chance the Sox still win this thing. Yawn.. you gave up on the seasons in April, so I don't really care what kind of witty green responses you have for me.. were 5.5 games out with 6 games against Detroit and the rest of em against KC/CLE/MIN so yes there is still a very real chance we can win the division if we can take care of business..
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) Because you're basically screwing the classiest player in baseball (possibly in the entire history of the game) from getting his final shot at a title just because you're too stubborn to admit that you don't really have a chance. I think its more s***ty to just let someone who could help your team out go to an arranged team so they can sit on the bench and get a WS title he didn't even earn just so he can have one.. that is whats s***ty..
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) Well if you truly believe we are still contenders for a WS title then so be it. I do not hold the same belief whatsoever. Its about making the effort for that.. they already decided they were going for it when they didn't make any real moves at the deadline, so whats the point of b****ing about it now you might as well just hope they can sneak into the playoffs and see what happens.. Thome would help that push, I don't think hed be upset coming here
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) Ugh, the only people with that attitude are the very few fans of the Sox who still think we're in it. I guarantee even Thome would breathe a sigh of disappointment if he heard that the Sox claimed him, and probably his teammates on both the Twins and Sox. Were 5.5 games out with the entire month of September playing the division, give it a rest with the doom and gloom crap.. were not out of it yet
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) It doesnt have to be fair, but still it would be a s***ty move to block Thome from going somewhere where he could win that title. One of the best guys in baseball history deserves that chance IMO. And were trying to do that, and if he can help us in trying to do that there is nothing s***ty about that..

Ugh, I cant believe that I am ok with Truth right now.. that Truth/Miz segment was pretty damn solid

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) And yet, they're on the verge of fielding a competitive team again. Joke? They got lucky last year, they are still a poorly run organization that has burned countless top picks on people who could have been had a few rounds later.. they aren't going 6-0 in the division again -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) However, the Raiders don't have a 3rd round pick next year, they already traded that away, which means that the picfk they're likely to lose will be a comp pick for Nnamdi False.. you cant use a supplemental if you don't have the pick to cover it next year.. its a 4th that they don't have.. -
I hope I never have to see AJ behind the plate again, unfortunately that isn't going to happen

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) The league doesn't have that kind of power. He's already beaten them in court on cases where the league tried to exercise power over him. I was more just making a comment on how bad the moves the Raiders make are.. -

geez, wouldn't it be in the best interest of the NFL to take that team away from Al Davis.. what a fool -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 08:18 AM) Sounds like Jake Peavy. hey his great year lasted all year though, not just one half!
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 03:00 PM) Me thinks the Rockies knew something about Ubaldo. Hes not a great pitcher.. dude has one great year surrounded by decent/solid years and hes like some huge frontline starter.. hes not

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 07:50 AM) Just be careful not to become the target of that hormone driven rage. Thats why I had to say something, because she was getting pretty frustrated.. I was thinking it made more sense for some strangers to think I was a dick than have someone I have to see everyday be pissed at me for not saying anything.. but like I said, the movie was pretty cool outside of some peoples loud talking.. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 09:14 AM) How was the pregnancy sex when you got home? Ha So does that count as a threesome??

May I please get my name changed to Papa Tru and my little title thing changed to "Lowes, Ed?"
-
So I went and saw Fright Night at midnight (it was good) and there were two girls directly behind us and then a bunch of teens in the back row, all loud for about half of the movie.. well my pregnant fiance is starting to get pretty upset about this, so I finally got to do something ive always wanted to do but never could before.. So the two girls behind us were talking, not whispering, just about non stop.. finally, I turned around and said "Hey, can you shut the f*** up please" and not only did they stop talking period, the teens in the back stopped making noise as well.. it was quite satisfying

Haha, the end of Final Destination 5 was pretty cool

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 07:16 PM) i guess there was just no way to foresee this type of collapse. And I know this is not an Adam Dunn thread so I won't go on and on, but I'm starting to believe this has as much to do with the pressure of signing a big contract as it does anything else. Even a mediocre season from Dunn, say .225 25 75, would make such a huge difference. But man, to have VMart...I swear every time Miggy gets a hit in front of him he comes through with a knock. You bring up a good scenario Lets forget what Dunn is doing right now and just say that his first year in a Sox uniform ended with .225 - 25 - 75 How much s*** does Dunn catch? The same amount as he is now, or less? I think it would be the same, given his track record..
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 11:34 PM) I still haven't written off Dunn/Rios/Peavy as being reasonable producers over the next few years. I haven't either, the problem is if they aren't we are going to go through a pretty rough few years waiting for them to expire off the payroll.. And I honestly don't believe there is anyway Dunn doesn't get back to at least respectability next season.. you don't hit 38+ HRs for that long of a stretch and then all of the sudden cant hit .170 with no power, it makes no sense at all and is extremely flukey Rios? I don't expect much from him.. he has the talent, he just doesn't give a s*** and I don't see how that's going to change.. hes got his money regardless of how he does.. Peavy is 12-11 with a 4.60 ERA in the bulk of his White Sox career.. that's 5th starter material, and for the money we have to pay him that's nothing to be excited about.. If he gets fully healthy and is like old Peavy, awesome.. but that seems kind of unlikely to me at this point, I sure hope it happens though..
