  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2011 -> 05:14 AM) That's kind of like saying the Tigers went to the playoffs with Doyle Alexander and it made the Smoltz trade a good one, or Bagwell for L. Anderson. If they had both Carlos Guillen and Freddy Garcia long-term (and John Halama as their fifth starter), they would have been much better off IMO. No it really isn't.. you act as if the Astros were bad after 1998 for a while because of that trade.. from 1999-2005 they made the playoffs 4 times, including a world series appearance.. when you have the chance to add the best pitcher in the league for a shot at the world series, you do it.. but the trade they made didnt really cripple them long term in any way.. I used 2005 as the stopping point because after that they started to rebuild
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 11, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) The Randy Johnson trade didn't go so well, either. Well technically yes it did, they got to the playoffs but obviously didn't win the world series.. they ended up winning 102 games and Randy Johnson went 10-1 with a 1.28 ERA and 4 CG shutouts for them.. but up until 04/05 they were notorious playoff chokers
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) Could be worse, you could have outbid the Mets and kept Beltran. I don't think that matters, people STILL talk about Beltran down here..
  4. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) The cheapest Sox tickets you can get are upper deck reserved for $12 on a Monday. Just Monday night? man that sucks..
  5. Well first of all, no one down here cares about the Rangers I can tell you that much.. I almost never hear Astros fans talking about the Rangers and the Astros/Rangers games aren't very "hostile" in the rivalry terms.. Secondly, since the team was put up for sale they haven't really made any moves to improve the club in terms of signing people or making trades.. One of their big problems is they hold onto people for way too long, and of course seeing Beltran walk away after how much excitement he brought to this city in his short time here.. Hopefully this new ownership will actually do positive things so im not bored to death everytime I go to an Astros game..
  6. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 10, 2011 -> 12:58 AM) Yet it's impossible for the Indians or Royals to end up winning the division? correct
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2011 -> 08:26 PM) Not really. Check StubHub. Cardinals are in town, temp will be 80 degrees tommorrow night and there are tickets on sale for a whopping $5. How much are tickets for the Sox game? Like walk up tickets.. because you make it sound like $5 is some huge deal when you can get a ticket to the Astros game for $7, and that's with no deals..

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) Lindsay still has a 0.00 ERA for Charlotte. Any reports on him? I know our relievers down there (3-4 of them) have been putting up pretty impressive numbers. Didn't we just pick him up this spring or in the off-season? Noticed another DeShields playing at Lexington in SAL League. Delino's son? Delino DeShields Jr. is in the Astros system
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 9, 2011 -> 10:07 PM) No chance. The Bulls-Heat winner will be the NBA champions. I think you mean Hawks-Heat winner
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 9, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) No, I don't think we'll finish as the absolute worst team in baseball, but we're far from contenders at this point. f*** dude, even the biggest homers on this site are basically calling the season over. And why do people keep bringing up last year? I could understand if they mentioned the 2005 Astros or the Rockies teams of the last few seasons, but quit bringing up the 2010 White Sox because they failed despite playing out of their minds. They'd have to play even more out of their minds this season because their deficit is larger (despite your great argument that the Royals and Indians don't count) while having to surpass every other team in the division on the way. Who cares if they failed? People keep bringing it up because it was still a real lousy start that they came back from.. THAT'S the point, not that they didn't get it done in the end.. Even if this team doesn't get it done in the end, that doesn't change the fact that they can indeed come back from their lousy start.. PS. - Were no longer in last place
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 9, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) Haha, OK. I forgot they didn't count. So the Sox should easily be able to pass four teams with a deficit of 10 games while being the worst team in baseball more than a month into the season. Thanks for clearing that up. They don't count, until either one of them clinch a spot in the playoffs they are going to finish 4th and 5th in this division.. that's the only possible way I will believe it to happen.. I like how you laugh at everyone else who doesn't think this team is dead, yet you honestly believe this is going to be the worst team in baseball? Especially after last year? Get the hell out of here.. Were 4 games behind our main competition, that's nothing to be quitting on the season about..
  12. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 9, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) And this team has an even bigger deficit to overcome. uh no they don't.. .5 game behind Minnesota 4 games behind Detroit I don't care what KC and Cleveland are doing, neither is going to be there at the end of the season..
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ May 8, 2011 -> 06:39 AM) If this continues to be a "taunt" thread every time each player does better than the other, I will close it. Discuss, but don't bump just to say that KW "sucks." It should be closed, Hudson's not on our team.. get over it
  14. eh, hard to be upset about it.. Christian really isn't that kind of talent

    Hawk

QUOTE (ntorvik @ May 5, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) Plus his numbers could have easily been inflated due to the fact that he was playing in the ballpark in Cincinnati. The dude is country strong (think he got phrase to describe him more than anyone I've ever seen or heard), but he's always been a big strikeout guy. He hits homers or strikes out, that's his thing. A guy like him doesn't just change who he is throughout the course of his career. And what about the two years he hit 38 in Washington? Why are we even having this discussion?
  16. fail.. we get it were terrible.. don't need a million new threads stating the obvious good day sir
  17. See ive been telling you guys.. no one can hit, we cant score runs.. it takes Lillibridge ONE PITCH to get on base.. the dude is straight money
  18. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 4, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) Get him out of the 3 hole then. haha why, so he can walk and be on base for all the guys hitting .170?
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) AJP with 3 extra base hits and 3 walks in his first 100 ABs. I can no longer stand AJP Wish he wasnt brought back
  20. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 4, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) Dunn seems to think his job is to take a damn walk... I dont see why they all didnt just wait to get walked last night, at least we might have scored a run even with no hits
  21. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 4, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) DON'T TRY TO BE CUTE AND CALL ME BUDDY!!! RAGGEE!!! Can we get back to watching this ship sink now? haha, sure thing
  22. oh man, haha, I dont know whether to be disgusted or laugh haha, ill laugh
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 4, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) I tried to be cute by mocking frat boys? Hmm, alright. And I'm sorry for being a dumbass. I didn't realize my 2:38 edit was clearly after your 2:38 post. I can be so dumb sometimes. lol ok buddy, you are so weird
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Just stepped away...that bad? apparently not as he is on first base
