  1. Guys with upside are almost always cheap, key word is "upside" which means their current performance doesn't warrant a high contract.
  2. This is what happens when you don't clean house. Hahn and Williams get fired because they were bad at their jobs, and they just promote someone from the same regime who was also bad at their job to take over. Oh, but now some of these no upside guys can play defense though. See, its a little different.....
  3. The Yankees are loaded. Judge missed a lot of time with an injury and they just added a 5-6 WAR player in Juan Soto. Baltimore has no pitching. The Yankees will finish ahead of the Orioles in 2024.
  4. Im sure it will ramp up eventually as the SP FA market starts to settle itself
  5. Im not interested in trading with Baltimore, they had their shot to make a run and decided to play it safe. Plus, I want these O's posters to go back to their homes and get out of here with their ridiculous assessments of not only Cease but the comical take on Robert as well. Yankees aren't going to be an 82 win team again, Orioles finish 3rd or 4th. Book it.
  6. It didn't, totally slipped my mind that they wouldn't have been paid a normal season. Yeah, so pretty much you need to be pushing $150+ with a few rare instances if you want to win a title.
  7. The 2020 Dodgers only had a $95M payroll? wow. So at first glance, this looks really spread out but what would an $85-90M payroll in the early 2000's be compared to today? That might change how this looks a little..
  8. That’s very much a possibility, and considering his 3.72 FIP I would assume expecting a substantially better performance is fair
  9. Cease is fine, he was on a team with a horseshit defense and a season that was over after the first month. Wait until next season now that we’re loaded on defense with studs Moldonado, Lopez, DeJong and Stassi. ERA will be much better, but record not so much.
  10. The Orioles are going to be stuck in the wasteland of trading their proven players who are getting expensive and expecting every single prospect they have to pan out. To which they will eventually be back in the basement where they have spent the majority of the past 25 years.
  11. 70 plate appearances. How can anyone possibly make a determination on a player with that sample.
  12. 35 year old Aroldis Chapman for 3.75 million dollars got the Royals a 25 year old controllable starting pitcher who put up 2 bWAR in 12 starts and a lotto ticket. Your post is probably the White Sox thought process though.
  13. Man I cant believe I forgot about Fedde, that's a perfect example of what the Sox should be doing more of this offseason. If he is legit, then you have a valuable asset to deal this season.
  14. Grifol took a team with "championship aspirations" and lost 100+ games. This team is primed to lose 100+ games again. If hes back in 2025 then this is just a clown show organization. If they carry two veteran catchers who offer no offensive upside and MAYBE some defensive upside all season long instead of trying to develop or see what they have in their young guys then this is just a clown show organization. Maybe we are just a clown show organization though, so you may be right.
  15. Yeah I don't get all this change the culture talk. You change the culture by leadership at the top and your manager. Signing guys to 1 year deals / stopgaps isn't going to maintain a culture.
  16. Im not going to sweat it too much, because there is zero chance that Stassi and Maldonado make it through the entire season on the roster. No way.
  17. Not specific to this season, just in general it seems like the MO is to sign a handful of guys that total up 15-20 million instead of signing that one guy for 15-20 million who will make a difference. For 2024, guys like Stassi, Maldonado, DeJong, Lopez are pretty much sunk costs. The odds of any of them performing well enough to be able to be flipped at the deadline for something have to be incredibly low. Why not spend some of that money on a potential flip candidate instead of a handful of guys who are more likely to be DFA'd than dealt. Especially with the season that's coming.
  18. Max Stassi hasn't played since 2022 and Maldonado isn't good defensively anymore. That's the problem.
  19. What I hate about this is that this organization continually goes down the path of a handful of guys that aren't even good instead of going for one guy that is good. Between Stassi, Maldonado, DeJong, and Lopez you're looking at approx. $10 million spend. There is better ways to allocate that money.
  20. Would rather see what we have in house and if those guys can play. What good does Maldanado do for this team hitting .190 with no defense? Korey Lee can do that for almost 4 million less.
  21. What a head scratcher, this guy isn't even good defensively anymore.
  22. For simple math, if you’re selling your car and you would take $5 for it you don’t advertise it for $5. You say $8, and maybe you get $8, maybe you get $7 or $6. You don’t start at $5.
  23. Hey buddy its not fair, why do I have to go to work everyday to make a shitty salary and those guys get set for life. They should just split that money amongst us regular people.
  24. 99% of star free agents are going to whoever offers the most money. You think players are lining up to go play in Buffalo, New York??
