  1. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) Vizquel isn't an offensive savior, but he will make a lot fewer outs than Uribe and help extend innings. Plus Ozuna makes for an obvious platoon when lefties pitch. Omar is only hitting .263 against LH... Not really a need for a platoon.
  2. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:03 AM) Everything I hear is that Burnett wants to go somewhere that isn't Chicago. f*** him. Everything I hear, Burnett isn't the GM of the Marlins. They'll take the best offer regardless... Remember, he is a good friend of Ozzie...
  3. I'm sure they were all Cub fans dressed as Red Sox fans... Sneaky bastards
  4. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 07:13 AM) My premise was that he was performing lower than a true closer should. I was just giving pitching examples. Here are a selected games of Billy Wagner, a fantasy of many here. 2 hits and a WP http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gameLog?gameId=250416122 Blown Save 1 hr http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gameLog?gameId=250506116 Couple hits, couple runs http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gameLog?gameId=250515122 Blown Save 1 Hr http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=250524128 2 hits, 1 HBP, 1 inherited runner score, 1 earned run http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gameLog?gameId=250605122 See you can do that with anyone.
  5. I only see a couple games in that where he was the "closer" Coming in during a tie game, blowout (to get some work), or more than one inning during a tie game in extra innings. Those don't count. There are many closers, including Eric Gagne, who do not perform well in non-save situations.
  6. So I think the conclusion is that Burnett can be good and can be bad, too? Am I right?
  7. QUOTE(Benson&Rexage @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) I hope this guy isnt serious about trading Mark You quoted his entire post before your response... Did you read it??? He says it was a joke on the ohter posts about getting rid of good players. Sheesh
  8. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) what about Pods then? After your, now deleted, post about Burnett deal being done...you post this. I guess you don't like it here.
  9. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 07:29 PM) I would put Griffey at CF, Rowand to RF, Dye to 1B. Make sure you guys have your xbox plugged in when you play that game, because no GM would ever do that in the stretch run. Trade away the teams top RBI guy then replace him at first with an OF who has never played that position. (I'm sorry Dye played it for one game) 1b is not as easy as you may think.
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) Vizquel isn't coming here. Book it. All it took was an extra year and he would have been here in the off season. He has no ill-will against the White Sox. Ozzie and him are very good friends, too. But then again, who isn't Ozzie's friend??
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) I love when Tadihito doesn't have to give himself up. It would be interesting to see what kind of numbers he would put up if he were batting 6th or 7th. That's why picking up Omar Vizquel would be huge. He is a one the best #2 hitters around. Takes pitches, bunts extremely well, & makes good contact. That allows you to move Gooch down the order to produce more runs and you don't give up anything defensively.
  12. I like seeing him line a single to left then take one deep to right in his next at-bat. He may have found the stroke, again. WTG Tada!
  13. Scott Reifert in his White Sox blog today http://whitesoxpride.mlblogs.com/ I love the idea of Kenny in a war room with different scenerios posted. I would love to see what future White Sox teams they are envisioning.
  14. THIS THREAD WAS A JOKE! END OF STORY wow
  15. Do people here not get the guy was kidding?!? wow
  16. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) RR, great post, here's my observation. Many here are pessimistic by nature and generally see the bad before the good. Others here are not very experienced, and tend to be more reactionary, both good and bad, i.e. a player is great one night, the next night he needs to be traded. It is also the underlying nature of many Sox fans to expect bad things to happen, given the history of the team I can sort of understand that. Most of the extreme negativism comes about because they perceive this place as a venting ground, which is ok I suppose. If it gets too far to the extreme, the board as whole tend to police things. Then, there have been or are a few goofballs on this site who simply enjoy stirring up s*** and do not understand the difference between fact and opinion. Luckily, the mods and admins know who they are and if they get too whacked out, they'll be gone. Still othersquickman like to use the site as a bastion of reverse psychology and think by posting negative proclamations, it will somehow alter the course of nature. Lastly there are a few who feel drinking and posting go hand in hand, they should be ignored. It's the nature of SoxTalk. For the most part it's a pretty good place to visit. I concur 100%
  17. Bug bite still keeping Jermaine out. I wonder if Dye will grow four more legs, start puking on food to digest it, and date Kirsten Dunst. Only time will tell...
  18. The last couple days have brought these thread gems: - Trade Konerko so Dye can play 1st. - Fire Joey Cora, he sucks - Bench Tadahito Iguchi so Willie Harris can start - Joe Crede's defense sucks - Our team is like 2003-2003-2004, no heart - We will lose the division to the Twins After reading all the posts and going over the facts and stats, I have come to this conclusion: No one on this team can make a mistake, no matter how great they've been all year. No one can be in a slump, no matter how many times they've helped us win No one can make errors after not making any for months There is a strong and vocal community who does NOT believe in this team, it's players or it's coaches. They don't like this team and are looking at every excuse to bash them. 30+ games over in July .500 doesn't matter "It could be better" One of top defenses in MLB, doesn't matter "Did you see that play last night..etc" Top pitching in the League , doesn't matter. Top team in steals & sacrifices, doesn't matter 11 game lead in the division in July, doesn't matter Scored 459 runs...6th in the AL Given up 375 runs...1st in AL. 2nd in MLB!!! Thats why we win Folks!!! If we were playing poorly, I'd understand. If this team wasn't doing playing good, solid fundemental baseball, I'd understand. If we were playing selfish, I'd understand. BUT WE ARE NOT DOING THAT. So, I don't understand. So I ask why... All I can say is, I watch the games. I see how they play. I see the emotion, the heart and the guts they give every night. That's why were winning. Can we be better...sure no team is perfect. But does the house have to be destroyed so we can build a new one? No. Can another bullpen arm help. Yes Can another Starter help when we fragile in that area physically. Yes. Can a versitile bench player help. Yes. Do we need to replace half the team and it's coaching staff. NO In closing, your Honor, I demand the White Sox of 2005 be found NOT GUILTY of sucking and any reference to them or a specific team member sucking without provication or adequate facts to support that be mocked to the fullest extent of the law! This fan rests.
  19. Recess is over kids, go back into the school while the adults talk.
  20. They are great! You'll have a good time. Only Free Food, though Since 2003, you have to dress as your favorite Star Wars character to get free beer. JR is a big Star Wars geek. Good luck and enjoy!
  21. QUOTE(Bridgeport Sox @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) I know i don't post much but this has been bothing me for some time now. I cannot believe he sent Paulie home on that base hit. All season long (and last season) he has been sending runners home on close plays and has been getting lucky, and when he's not lucky they are out by a mile. I love the Sox but I think we should can him after this season. What do you guys think? This is one of the most uninformed posts in along time. You really have NO basis for this argument. Was it a bad choice by Joey...yes. Can you please tell me the numerous other mistakes he made to warrant your dismissal of him?!? Hmmm?? This is getting ridiculous!!! The negative posts are now going from just pessimistic to downright asinine. Some people do not deserve this team.
  22. You would replace Konerko for Griffey, then put someone at 1st who has only played there ONCE in their career for the stretch run?? Bad moves... MVP Baseball logic
  23. QUOTE(forrestg @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) what happens when a team blocks like the Twins block the signing They have to sign the player, then.
  24. Enjoy yourself. Depsite what people think about the politics, it is a beautiful country. I'll be there next summer, so don't drink all the wine.
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) Nice win tonight, congrats to Garland on the win. Hermanson is a definite question mark to me right now. :headshake Who isn't to you??
