Frank on the BIG SCREEN!

Sorry if this seems ignorant of the hearings, but is there anyone from Illinois on the Congessional Committee?

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:49 PM) Ummm... I don't think I like that. Players should not be put into a position to tattle on other players. An independent pannel should be formed. People with nothing to gain from outing, or hiding, the players using. As I am proud of Frank to be asked to be part of this taskforce... I do share your concern on what consequences this could create between players. Does that make Frank the clubhouse Narc? I guess we should wait and hear the exact details on what they expect from him and Curt.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) What would Frank and Curt (and whomever else) have to do while they are on this task force? I'm sure Rep Davis will inform them when they appear, that's when he'll have them sworn in to be part of the taskforce. Frank...gettin his MFin Props!!

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) I heard that. That's really awesome. Frank gets his cape today! Federal Investigator Frank Thomas, reporting for duty! Drop your pants Sammy!

Frank Thomas, along with Shilling, will be sworn in and made a member of an official Congressional Taskforce to investigate Steroid abuse in MLB. This was just reported on ESPNNews by Bob Ley What kind of wedge will this put between them and their teammates?!?
-
Rep Miller: She wasn't sure whether congress should get involved...but after hearing Parent's testimony: Yes, this is exactly what they should be doing.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) This is the part of the hearings that got little press but is the most important. The discussion of abuse by high school students. These are not paid athletes. These are kids accepting this risk based on peer pressure & future goals. What was Canseco thinking when he wrote in Juiced that moderate & controlled use of illegal performance enhancers can lead to desired results? How irresponsible can you get? I hope they hold his feet to the fire after that revelation. I heard Canseco is taking the 5th because they wouldn't grant him immunity.

ESPNNews is also carrying it live. I have that on in my office.

From favortie line from Blazing Saddles is the one that got cut, but Mel Brooks talks about it on the DVD (I'll put the line in bold) It was the original last line in the scene between Lili and Bart: [Lili von Schtupp has lured Bart back to her room] Lili Von Shtupp: Is it true how zey say zat you people are... gifted? [Lights go out, sound of zipper opening] Lili Von Shtupp: Oh. It's twue. It's twue. Bart: Lady, you're sucking on my arm!

QUOTE(soxman35 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) makes alot of airs on defence we got to get rid of him Spelling errors aside, you should check your facts before making such a broad statement. Joe Crede was 2nd in the AL in Fielding PCT. (.965) for Third Basemen and made only 12 errors. Thats less than Casey Blake, Melvin Mora, Hank Blalock, Eric Munson, Bill Mueller, Eric Chavez, and Alex Rodriguez. We ALL agree his hitting needs to improve, but he has NEVER taken a hitting slump onto the field.

There goes my chance for "America Plushie Porn Idol"

I hav to agree with Steff. Change the title of this thread, Frank NEVER asked for the subpoena to be withdrawn. Infact, I don't see where his lawyer even asks for it to be withdrawn on Frank's behalf. All it says is: Nothing there, just it's unfair and unwise...A union political move. Just emphasizing how it's unfair Just emphasizing how it's unwise I don't see the word "Withdraw" or phrase "Frank asking" anywhere.

QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) Eh, the Golden Palace Casino bought it. If I recall correctly, they were all over the Lincoln Fry too. Now I know who to contact to make some quick, stupid cash!!

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) They had a kid on there who was showing his arm's motion when he throws his curve. Not only did he snap it off at the end, but his entire hand did this upward twist to where his palm was facing up when he released. It was painful to watch him move his arm that way just describing the motion. My Son is too young to do anything unnatural with his balls. WAIT, that didn't sound right!!

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) yep, THAT'S him, the search is over......and he's English. He was considered, but his Oscar nomination for "Closer" has priced him out. They are looking to go the cheap route = relative unknown On a perosnal note my choices were: 1.Clive Owen 2.Hugh Jackman 3.Eric Bana But Julian and Daniel are the official final two from Sony.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) I'm surprised nobody saw Road To Perdition here, especially with a thread going on right now about favorite local films. But that Daniel Craig guy would be downright nasty as Bond. I am also a bit surprised at the lack of love for Dalton. IMO he was the second best Bond so far, second to Connery. But I also don't rate Brosnan that high. I would take him over Moore, but Moore still gets viewed for out of nostalgia. But that last Brosnan film was easily one of the worst Bond films ever. Terrible stuff, absolutley terrible. The two Daltons are two of the best Bonds though, IMO. I am not familiar with the first guy mentioned though. TV series guy, never watch TV shows. So by default I go with Daniel, but I can't see him as Bond really. I liked Dalton a lot, also. License to Kill is easily one the BEST Bond films of all time. Living Daylights was OK, but that was a generic script with no character because they didn't know who would be playing Bond at the time they wrote it. As I said before, Dalton came the closest to protraying the Bond depicted in the original novels.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) Bad news: They haven't even begun the production of the third film yet. At least, this was true of the last update I received. I Phoenix. I can't wait. I'm getting stir-crazy. They finally hired a director. Matthew Vaughn, director of the very good film "Layer Cake" Ironically, he was a finalist to direct the next Bond film. But he truned it down, obviously he knew he being offered X3.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) What about Hugh Jackman, I was hearing rumors of him earlier. He was rumored, but his price is too high. Plus he has X-Men 3 and the Wolverine movies in the pipe
