  1. QUOTE(rangercal @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) too many people here like to let out their daily power trip here on these message boards. Dont worry as soon as you get to 1,000 posts you too can join the "thread police" . One: Take it easy buddy. Steff has every right to express her opinion..and might I add not in an insulting way like you. Two: Where's my Thread Police badge?!?

  4. As Soxtalk's resident James Bond expert (self-appointed, sure), let me clear up some details for everyone. Tarantino's involvement happened late last year, it was an Idea between him and Pierce Bronson to go back to the grittier Bond films like From Russia with Love, etc. Quentin is a big fan of that era. They both approached EON productions (Barbara Broccoli, specifically) about it doing the first Bond novel "Casino Royale". EON had recently re-claimed the title after several years of legal wrangling. Thats why it had never been produced before. They were turned down, flat. EON claimed the success of Die Another Day said the movie-going public wanted Spectacle over realism. Then the overwhelming success of "The Bourne Supremecy" and the DVD success of the re-issue of"The Bourne Idendity" changed their minds again. The public will love realism. But those movies made them believe the public would want a YOUNGER Bond. Bye Bye Pierce. So, now they have gone back to "Casino Royale" and they are looking for a younger Bond. They do have to beef of the book, a tad. The plot is rather simple, about Bond trying to backrupt a terrorist organisation in the Casinos of France. Plus the hunt is on for a younger Bond. Mid 30s Top Choices are Dougray Scott and Gerard Butler or perhaps an unknown. They believe Bond is the star and a name actor might not be necessary. Jude Law was considered too pretty, too thin and not rugged enough for the type of Bond they want. Hugh Jackman might be too expensive Clive Owen, a fan favorite since the movie "Croupier" might be unattainable due to his serious acting career taking off. Plus he is in his early 40s. Believe it or not, he might be too old. Though a solid choice. Eric Bana, who was a stand-up comic in Australia (who would have thought after The Hulk), has no interest in playing Bond and has said so. The film has already been delayed a year due to these set backs. This has prevented the producers from getting the film out in 2005, so another could come out in 2007...007 in 2007. A marketing dream they regrettably crushed. I hope this clears up some things...If you guys have any questions I'll be happy to answer them.
  5. I can finally feel like I belong... I want to thank my job for not monitoring my computer habits. My Wife for calling me a loser everytime I visit this board. Finally... 7. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 06:22 AM) hard to imagine a more difficult way to spend your summer than sitting in an empty Tropicana Dome talking about a team that loses 90 games maybe we can add steve stone to the broadcasts Ya think Stone would do our Pre and Post Game shows?!?
  8. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) I'm a first time season tix holder this year... My brother and I bought in to a group... They have tix the 2nd row UD... First time that I'll be in the UD in the last 4 years. But going to around 20 games is better than going to about 7-8. He's in school outta state though so we're gonna crunch those games between May and the middle of August. Where are your tickets man? I have UD Season Tix too.

  10. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) That's one well thought out post, Ribbie! Also sounds like you have a great kid there too. :cheers My 7- and 5-year old also watch both Arthur and the Postcards spin-off, and I think they're both really positive, tolerance-teaching shows. Thank you! And congrats on your children, too. I'm sure they are fantastic, as w ell. My son is very understanding and accepting on issues. Amazing for his age. Actually the toughest time I've had explaining something to him was just recently when I had to inform him that Magglio would not be a White Sox next year. He has a Magglio jersey t-shirt and another t-shirt that says "Magglio is my favorite player!" His reply "I still can like him, ok?" "Sure, buddy...Hey, Paul Konerko is still on the team" "Oh, Paul Konerko...He's good. I like him too. What about Frank Thomas?" "Yes, the Big Hurt is still a White Sox" "Yeah! Frank Thomas!...Um Dad?" "Yes Mikey?" "Can I like the Cubs too?" "Go to your room!" Actually everyting but the Cubs question is true, though.
  11. QUOTE(winodj @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) From what I've heard that this particular segment of the "Sugartime" epsiode does is show two women standing together in the kitchen, cooking. They happened to be a married lesbian couple, but that subject never comes up. "Showing two women cooking"!!!! I don't know why they haven't leveled obsenity charges against this show!!!
  12. The show, for the lack of a better word, is a spin-off of the extremely popular "Arthur" show. For those unfamiliar, the characters are all animals in human form. (their wear clothes, drive cars, etc...) Buster, Arthur's best friend, is a bunny who travels with his Dad from time to time (he is an airline pilot). An interesting fact is Buster's parents are divorced. Something they have talked about on the show. The "Postcards..." show deals with those travels. On the "Arthur" program they have talked about divorce, different religions..etc. Whether or not they will address the issue of them being lesbians, I don't know. But its not something this show has shyed away from in the past. I'm sure all they'll mention is that, if they have a child, a child with two mommies is still a family. The "Arthur" show and this one helps children understand the different cultures and people that you could meet in this world. It's an excellent and smart program that speaks intelligently to its intended audience. Unlike other flashy shows with no substance. My son is 6 years old. He loves both programs and I see the values I taught him and the values he receives from this show in his everyday life. Let me tell you...he is a big-hearted, exceptional child. It is so easy to teach children to be ignorant, to be mean, to be violent and to hate...escpecially from TV. When a program teaches caring, good values, honesty it should be applauded, no matter who is teaching the lesson. Children are lot more understanding than you may think. In my capacity in the Theatre, I have several friends who have alternative lifestyles. My son asked me once if a certain couple, 2 women, were married because they are always together and they live togther. I said "Well Mikey, no they're not married, but they do live together." "But they love each other?" They had professed to each other many times, he overheard. "Yes, they do" "But Dad...Girls like Boys" "Most do Mikey...but it's just nice to be with someone you love. Boy or girl" "I love girls" "Me too" He hasn't mentioned it since... And the last time I checked, he isn't damaged in any way.
  13. QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 1, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) Thought it was a bad trade when we traded him for koch before koch even threw his first pitch with the white sox. Would they have let us use Koch before we sent Foulke to Oakland? I didn't think that was allowed.
  14. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) Let's play devils advocate --- Lee>Podsednik Maggs>Dye That's making yourself worse with two acquisitions. Let me remind you of some transactions that happened not too long ago... Griffey>Cameron/Ichiro A-Rod>Boone Johnson>Garcia Take into account Griffey was at the top of game at the time and Ichiro was unproven. I am not saying that the White Sox are going to strike lighting in the bottle like Seattle, but it proves that speculating individual players greatness against each other doesn't prove anything. Playing as a team does... I am surprised Neyer hasn't learned this...
  15. QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) Collapse is a strong word. Every story I've seen says she just fainted. She was in Buffalo...
  16. At one time Neyer was complaing the Sox were too dependant on the longball and needed to be faster and better defensively. KW makes those moves and...we didn't improve. :banghead I know some might disagree with Kenny's moves, but out of 32 teams we are NOT in the bottom 10 of improvement. Here is the FULL article. It's illegal to post that full article from insider. Isn't a mortal sin to question Bill Beane in Bristol?!? However, it's not illegal to give a link to the Lite version of the ESPN site, which displays the same content for free.... Stupid ESPN. http://lite.espn.go.com/mlb/columnist?id=1980522 Edit'd by Cheat
