QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) You better believe it does. I think I'm gonna check airfare for tomorrow... I'm sure the Yankees will fly him out, Steff. No need for you to handle it.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) How would you pronounce that name? He's drunk, leave him alone.

I'm reminded of that SNL skit when Deion Sanders hosted. It was the ESPYs and when he won he got up all excited and said: "You know I thought I had it all when I won The Super Bowl! But now I got an ESPY!!! Yeah!!!" I agree. Who cares.

I agree... Weird.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) That's cool. What do you think about this statement, though: This is pretty much the basis of my argument. Once in a great while, guys can just step in and establish themselves as all-time greats right off the bat. Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, Hakeem Olajuwon, Lebron James, Magic Johnson, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, etc. Just a few names that come to mind. I agree. Right now they are dominating. But I am not chiseling their names into History until they accomplish more. See Mark Prior for recent premature enshrinement.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) No way, dude! I just said that they are arguably a Top 5 duo since 1950, but they would round out that list. Koufax/Drysdale is probably the best duo in the 140+ year history of the game. Plank/Ruffing is the only duo that would come close IMO. Basically, Santana and Liriano are the two best SPs in the game right now, and they are both in the same rotation. When is the last time something like that happened? Forget about the AL triple crown (ERA/WHIP/BAA). These guys are gonna go heads up for the MLB triple crown, and Santana will end up leading the league in Ks. Barring injuries, they'll could go down as the best duo since Koufax/Drysdale. It's not that outlandish. I'm sure that people were saying the same thing about Roger Clemens in 1986. Then again, Doc Gooden was also supposed to become an all-time great, but cocaine is one hell of a drug. Or was he smoking crack? Ahh, same difference. A top five duo since 1950? Based on a half a season? Sorry. no.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) http://www.wftv.com/news/9512126/detail.html Gandolfini's Surgery Delays 'Sopranos' Final Season POSTED: 12:43 pm EDT July 13, 2006 PASADENA, Calif. -- Sorry "Sopranos" fans, but you're going to have to wait -- again. But you can blame James Gandolfini's "unexpected knee surgery" for a delay in "The Sopranos" schedule. So, instead of the final episodes returning in January, they'll probably start running the beginning of March. HBO said the surgery threw things off for a couple of weeks. Then, it realized the delay would put the show in the middle of football playoffs and the Superbowl. So, HBO's just waiting until football's finished for the new episodes to start. A couple of months ago, Gandolfini's scooter collided with a taxi. Gandolfini walked away from that accident, so it's not known if it had anything to do with his knee surgery. The image of Tony Soprano on a scooter...For shame Mr Gandolfini :headshake

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) If a guy doesn't prove himself, he shouldn't be talked about. Tyler Lumsden has a pretty good arm down in the Sox minor league system, but I'm not ready to proclaim him as the next Steve Carlton, largely because he has not proven himself. The reason I am saying that Liriano is better is because he has proven himself to me. I have seen him pitch quite often, and the guy is truly, flat out, amazing. I have seen Santana pitch quite often too, but Liriano just looks better to me. Better stuff, not quite the control of Santana, but he is full of confidence, and he has the composure of a veteran pitcher. I've never seen a player period come out of the minors and be more MLB ready than Liriano is. He is a freak. So yes, it makes sense No one ever said he couldn't be talked about. I don't think he should be talked about with the same reverence as the other HOF pitchers that have been tossed out. What exactly has he proven? He has never pitched a full season. He has never pitched in a playoff game. He has never pitched in a World Series game. And for someone to say that Liriano/Santana is better than Koufax/Drysdale, Seaver/Ryan, or even Johnson/Schilling in their prime is too extreme and outlandish for my sports sensibilities.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) I love the one where the AJ is ripping on the Media for always printing negative stuff about him, HAHAHAHHAA Yep that evil media is everywhere, isn't it?
-
QUOTE(KeithFranklin @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 10:28 AM) I swear why does MLB even require Liriano to pitch anymore. If a team is unlucky enough to face him it should be an automatic loss. Because he can lose. And he will.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) Yes, keep piling on. As if the dude doesn't wake up every morning all depressed and what not. Liriano and Santana are both HOF caliber, and could arguably qualify as a top 5 duo since 1950. Koufax/Drysdale Seaver/Ryan Johnson/Schilling Maddux/Glavine Santana/Liriano I would NEVER place Santana/Liriano next to any of those names. No way. Johann has proven himself, but Liriano has only ptiched half a year!!! No way he deserves comparison to those names or mention of HOF yet. He can't hold their jock, yet. I remember when Felix Hernandez debuted last year. So much hype, so many dominating games. He was a Cy young pick by many experts this season. A can't miss. The arm, the power, the control! He is 8-8 with a 4.95 era. It is SOOO easy to fall in love with a great young arm and predict his future. But I think we sould keep things in perspective.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) Griffey Jr always has my full attention. That swing is so smooth and effortless. You would think all he could generate were "just over the fence" home runs. But he hits bombs!
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 07:49 AM) Watching that swing ought to derail most of the Josh Fields LF starter in 07 bandwagon. This is going to be at least another year of watching a guy incrementally shorten his swing to hit major league pitching, and insessant b****ing from the instant gratification crowd . The grass is always greener...

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) I very rarely ride the blue line, but yesterday after work, I was gonna meet some people at a bar to watch the ASG. My plan was to leave early, but I got tied up and stayed at work until about 5:30. Otherwise there is a good chance I would've been on that train. You could have been telling Mark Suppelsa that it wasn't an act of terrorism on Fox, then. He asked everyone he spoke to at least twice.

QUOTE(brijames @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) TIGERS TO OPEN SERIES AT HOME AL RULES: 2-run rally in 9th extends NL drought to 10 July 12, 2006 BY JOHN LOWE FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER When will Tiger World Series tickets be going on sale? Any team in contention late in the year has to place Playoff/World Series tickets on sale. Nothing cocky there. Barring a HUGE breakdown, the Tigers should see the post-season. -
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) Rather than try to predict each series as a win or loss, I think it's better to do three series stretches: 2) Min, @Bal, @KC (9 games) - Minnesota is playing well and we are likely to catch both aces, so I think we lose that series at home. We shouldn't have a problem going 4-2 on a relatively easy roadtrip. Prediction: 5-4 Liriano is going to pitch Thursday to start the second half for the Twins. Radke will follow then Santana. So the projected trio we will face will be: Radke, Santana, Silva. No Liriano. I think we can take 2of 3.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) Dumb question, but didn't our late summer swoon coincide with Pods' injury last season? Is it possible that he contributes an intangible to the bench that helps motivate our team to win games? I'm sure there's a statistic for that somewhere, but I totally failed that class. Shhhh.... Don't start bringing intangibles into this. It's stats or nothing.
