  1. It looked like a calf cramp from his reaction but then the trainer didn’t start stretching him, so who knows.
  2. Surprised how many don't see the pen as a position of need. Strongly disagree. While we may be set up well enough for October baseball, we still need to get there. We have a solid pen if we're holding a lead but, given Tony's tendencies, I don't think we have the right guys on the roster that can be counted on in a tie game or a game we're losing by 1-2 late. Heuer and especially Foster are shadows of their former selves and can't be counted on. Ruiz struggled the one time he was tried in high leverage. Burr looks good but not sure we can definitively count on him yet. Crochet and Bummer have both had the yips here and there, especially Bummer. I think getting a RH setup man, who comes in and throws strikes, is an essential pickup and allows us to move Heuer to that "late and close but trailing" role.
  3. The walks will be the death of this bullpen. Get in there and throw some damn strikes!
  4. What's funny is Donaldson is the kind of guy we would probably fall in love with if he were on the Sox.....passionate, talks shit, pretty damn good player. In fact, he and Gio would probably be good buddies if they were on the same roster.
  5. Don't love this but it may be the only way you get him up and contributing daily, outside of sending Mercedes down. See how he does at the plate and, if he's good enough to stick, try him out in RF once Luis is back or even earlier as a platoon partner with Sheets/Eaton.
  6. Glad I got my shit talking about him in before they yanked him lol.
  7. Nor with a lead. But they keep doing it, and doing it, and doing it. Inexplicable.
  8. First place team puts ace on the market? Just the simple act of advertising his availability would plummet his trade value. Teams will know it's not a salary dump, considering he only makes $3M. That leaves performance, attitude, or injury. His performance has been there. His attitude is good. So that leaves injury or injury risk. Which competing team will be chomping at the bit to assume the risk you don't want to take and pay a premium, in terms of prospects, to take that risk? Just an awful idea....I mean, I guess it drives some conversation here to that's good.
  9. It just never ends... If you'd told me last season, as I was busy salivating over what a fun season 2021 was going to be, that I would be ecstatic that Billy Hamilton was coming back from the IL to fill an OF spot, I'd have laughed in your face. Billy Hamilton....our savior. Kill me now.
  10. Tony should be in that office, too. JR hired him to win a championship and there's no way Tony feels they can maintain their winning ways with this patchwork lineup. I think his lineups in Houston tell you all you need to know about how he's feeling about this current group of hitters.
  11. Rodon's situation, in a contract year, is wholly different than Kopech, Crochet, and Cease. They will happily run him into the ground as long as he's relatively effective. If that's 200ip, then that's what he'll pitch.
  12. They won't do anything other than bring in reinforcements from the minors. This is still Jerry's team.
  13. This one stings because it was gift wrapped to Toronto. It's not like a good team came in and beat us. We fucking handed it to them. The umpiring handed it to them. TLR handed it to them. The defense handed it to them. Our 2,3,4 hitters handed it to them. Brutal loss. Going to bed in a bad mood lol
  14. I take it you’ve never actually played team sports? Emotion is overrated? Are you implying that clubhouse leaders, in any sport, are best if they’re stoic and quiet? There’s nothing positive coming from a guy pumping up his teammates? Nothing good about players holding one another accountable (see Rizzo and Contreras the other day)? MJ—-stoic? Tom Brady—-stoic? Tatis Jr, Acuna, Trout —-stoic? No one is looking for drama. A player like Yoan coming out of his shell to celebrate with his team, clap his hands hard after a big hit, or just joking around with the guys, speaks volumes about his maturation process as a leader in the dugout and the emotional investments he’s chosen to make in this team.
  15. Is it me or is this the most emotionally invested we've seen Yoan since he's been in Chicago? He's been so much more animated than he has been in the past. Dude was absolutely pumped up last night in the 9th. He looks like he's actually having fun and feels heavily invested. Love to see it.
  16. Marshall needs to go. Not sure if he has any options left but he needs to be off of this roster. Tony thinks he's a high leverage guy despite him blowing holds left and right. No one should see the 7th, 8th, or 9th innings with a lead other than Crochet, Bummer, Kopech, Hendricks, and Heuer. If we can find another late inning RP before the deadline, I think it'd be a very sound investment.
  17. Didn't like that pitch sequence at all starting at the 1-2 count. Everyone in the park knew a change-up was coming. Couldn't spot it, would've been hit hard if he had, and forced him into a belt high fastball over the heart of the plate when count went full. I would've liked high heat on 1-2.
  18. I mean, it sucks for us but that was a super quick pop time and strong throw to get Tim. Looked like he had a pretty decent jump.
  19. OK. Watching on a tablet and it looked pretty bang-bang on the smaller screen.
  20. Is it just me or should we have challenged that call at first? Looked awfully close, surely close enough to challenge.
  21. Meh. They could be worse, I guess. The pinstripe pants are hideous....looks like a 1930's gangster suit. Definitely glad these will be a one-time deal. Also, considering it's a "City" uni, I think the hat is probably the best part.
  22. I don't expect production, per se, just a judgement of how rusty he is. If he looks completely lost at the plate after a week's worth of games, we've got a problem. If he has poor BABIP but is having good/decent ABs, so be it, we can expect him to produce at some point soon and can resist trading away any talent.
  23. I think we have to see what Engel brings to the table when he returns. If he starts that first week with horrible ABs, Sox are going to have to shop for a "meh" LH OF bat that costs little in the way of talent. If his ABs look good, regardless of production, I think we roll with what we've got coupled with internal moves.
