  1. That was some funny s*** when AJ gave those signs on his chest protector.
  2. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jun 13, 2012 -> 07:48 PM) I played with both of them on the Indiana Bulls. He comes across as a prick just watching his mannerisms on the mound and in the box.
  3. I'd wait until Sale is closer to his arb years just to see how his arm holds up. I'm unclear on Viciedo's contract/arb/FA details but that guy is going to be a stud....he's the one player of the bunch that I wouldn't be at all pissed if KW were to go out on a limb and sign him long-term tomorrow.
  4. That first pitch from Pryor was one of the easiest looking 100MPH I've seen. I had to do a doubletake at the pitch speed on his first pitch.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ May 31, 2012 -> 07:26 PM) At this point, we hardly have a clear need. 3B is the closest to it. There are some things that we can see becoming holes, and I'd imagine that will present itself more clearly as time goes on. I sure wouldn't strike quickly to add a player right now while we're so hot and lacking an absolute need (assuming that we should look more in depth at OH and BM at 3B before deciding what to do there) Exactly. Our weakest link is 3b but we haven't lost a game, and have actually seen some exceptional defense there, since O-Dog took over the hot corner. I suppose we could use a starter but with Quintana showing some real promise we could stash him in Charlotte as a cheap go-to should one of our starters falter badly (Mr. Floyd). I think this is one year where I actually hope KW chooses not to strike early but rather gives this team some time to clearly identify where our holes are at.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 30, 2012 -> 12:23 PM) Best Hawk rant of alltime, which is saying something. He said that foo needs to be suspended and attend ump school again before returning
  7. The Jesus (the guy in my avatar) also has the last name Quintana. And as we know, nobody f***s with The Jesus. Cleveland is doomed.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 07:22 AM) I will say that based on what it took him to leave a horrible SD team, he could be the type of player who would stay somewhere he likes, versus somewhere that offers him a lot of money. There aren't many players you can say that about, but I think Peavy could be one. And that's kind of where I'm coming from.....I think there are only a handful of players in the league who genuinely feel horrible and embarrassed for not living up to expectations and would go so far as to offer some form of retribution for their failure....I think Jake has that type of character. I could obviously be very wrong, but that's my take based on his competitiveness and what he says in the media about letting the franchise and fans down.
  9. I forgot all about that option. Are you allowed to buyout the option and re-sign someone or would that raise the ire of the MLBPA?

    JFP

I know it's early, but if JFP can keep up some semblance of what's he doing now, say finishes the year with around a 3.00-3.50 ERA, a WHIP in the neighborhood of 1, striking out nearly a batter an inning, do we look to re-sign him? Do you think Jake would give a considerable discount to the Sox considering how little return they've gotten on the trade to obtain him? I just get the impression that Jake feels horrible about how his whole stint here has gone. I think he feels he let the fans and franchise down. He's the kind of guy who could sign a very, very reasonable (7-8M/yr) for 2 years in Chicago to make amends. Do you think this could happen? What if he didn't offer that deep of a discount and was instead looking for 12-13M for 3-4 years, do we make an effort to keep him then?
  11. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 7, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) One point is that KW made a lot of moves because he was in a "win now" mode and Ozzie could/should have done better with most of those teams from 2006 to 2011 than he did. The Sox were in "win now" mode and Ozzie didn't win. This is such an important part of the equation and something I believe played a very large role in JR's dismissal of Ozzie instead of KW. The Sox rosters for nearly every season from 2006-2011 were stacked on paper. These were teams that were clear-cut favorites to win the Central and yet they came up woefully short most every year. A GMs job isn't to get the players to perform, set a solid line-up, make the correct in-game moves to promote victory....his job is to put a roster together capable of winning and I don't think there's any doubt that KW accomplished that each and every year. Ozzie turned out to be a horrible manager and, without question, was sabotaging games last season to prove his own, narcissistic version of the Sox failures would and should be pinned on KW. But just as you'd expect from someone who never finished school and, after 30 years in the US still can't speak English, he never understood that his masterplan would be so damn transparent. Good riddance.
  12. I despise the fact you have to watch an ad before watching an ad. The Sox spot is pretty nice.
  13. I like it. I agree that it kind of tempers expectations, especially when compared to the dreadful "All In" campaign. Any baseball fan knows that there are ups and downs for every franchise but, no matter how awful a team is, we can all still appreciate the game. Be it an evening spent in the stands taking in the atmosphere, sitting on your porch at home listening to Ed and DJ, or a lazy Sunday afternoon lounging on the couch watching the action on TV, it's a game that we all love whether the team wins or loses. The Sox have always been a part of our lives and perhaps it's seasons like 2012, where you don't throw s*** at the tv because your expectations are set high, that we really get to appreciate the game of baseball for what it is.
  14. DeAza Bacon Kong Dunn Rios Alexei Viciedo AJ Morel Danks Peavy Gavin Humber Sale I know I'm in the minority, but I expect very nice rebound seasons from both Dunn and Gordon. I think Ozzie's attitude didn't mix with these guys and they will both work very well under Robin.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 05:05 PM) I am truly afraid of these as throwbacks: http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4234826 Seriously?!? Man, I love those.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 06:10 PM) Silverio, Martinez and Marinez don't belong in the top 10. That's just laziness. I don't know about that....my sources in Lawrence, Kansas, agree with Phil.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) Ha, I just remembered that Vinny Del Negro coaches the Clippers. Good luck with that.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 06:44 PM) Does Rip need screens to get open? Yes. He doesn't when his man leaves him to double up Rose.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) I expect at least semi-regression from the Bulls. Everybody knows they overachieved last year. They did in the sense that they finished with the league's best record with their front-court decimated by injuries throughout the season, Bogans starting at SG, and a brand new coach. This year, if they finish with the league's best record, they'll meet expectations. Replacing Keith Bogans with Rip is an upgrade no matter which way you try to twist it...going from 6ppg to 17 with comparable defense is a massive upgrade. Can he create off the dribble? Of course not...but he will score and will relieve some of the pressure from Rose. Omer will be huge this year after some invaluable experience last year. Same with Taj. The Bench Mob will be insane on the defensive end of the court which, of course, makes it less important that they can't score consistently. The Bulls depth is wholly unmatched in either conference...this should play well given the condensed schedule. A team that was already tops on D under a first year head coach will truly be smothering this year after a full year in the system. I really can only see Miami hanging with the Bulls out of the East...and no other team is even close. NYK may have some star-power, but their backcourt is a joke and their depth miserable. Boston is on their way down. ORL, even if Dwight stays, has really done nothing to improve from a mediocre team. Atlanta is weaker. Indy is better but still not "good".
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:34 PM) The fair trade DID happen. He vetoed it, which really was beyond his power. The NBA is f***ed after this. I didn't think any trades could be officially completed until the owners ratified the new CBA which, as far as I know, won't happen until tomorrow. How is the NBA f***ed? Because fans in LA will be pissed? ETA: I see now the owners have ratified. Still, we have no idea how "official" this trade was. Did the teams make official announcements?
  21. The only way to combat this is for the GMs to collude a bit. The bottom-line is that Orlando, if this Howard deal is done for Bynum, are the real idiots. I'd just as soon let Howard walk for nothing at the end of the year than serve as a farm system for LAL. Smith, in this case, would catch hell from the media for not budging but someone from small-mid market management needs to step up and start the trend.
  22. So that pretty much kills Miami's FA money, right? Only other ways they can improve now is via trade?
  23. What an awful contract.....$25-26M/yr for 10 years? To a 32 yr old? Madness. I read where STL offered him 9 years, anyone know the dollars? That's kind of shady for him to leave STL if it was only over 1 yr on his deal.
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) I am amazed (but not really) at the stupidity of this fan base. We have an inability to think logically about something. Instead, we overreact with the first thought that comes to our head. What's the LAST thing a rebuilding team needs? A closer. What's the first thing a rebuilding team needs? Pitching prospects. Don't misconstrue someone complaining about the returns from trading a particular player vice complaining about simply trading a particular player. I don't think I've read anyone b****ing about Santos being dealt.
