  1. I only saw Nova last year against the Sox but that kid has a future....very impressive. If the Sox could get him, which they won't, but if they did it'd be a steal.
  2. I hate the idea of evaluating the value of a manager by player statistics. It should be a much more granular study involving specific managerial decisions (pitching changes, walking with an open base, sac bunts, etc.) and how those decisions impacted the outcome of each game.
  3. Considering our upcoming schedule, this is about as good of a time as any for Noah to go under the knife. Taj and Booz will do work.
  4. QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) I dont understand why you would want to trade CQ now, what to save 4M. You already spent $120 if you want bullpen help go out and get a guy for 4 or 5M. He is still a capable part of our lineup who at any moment can carry our club for an extended period of time. CQ still owns 162 game average of .251/.347/.488/.835 with 32 HR and 100 RBI. I know he sucks defensively but where else do u get that kind of production for 4.5M or whatever he is going to get in arbitration. Also how many teams can say they have a 6th hitter who averages 32 HR and 100 RBI. And you want to get rid of that for a reliever and put who exactly in RF, and who exactly is going to replace all that offensive production for your 1, maybe 2 relievers. Word. With a whole helluva lot less pressure on him this season, or atleast lower expectations, I think he's going to murder the ball and put up some monster numbers.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 11:42 AM) Posting from my phone. Could be a rumor but I hear the Sox are deep in talks that involve some of our top prospects for pitching. Maybe we are also trading someone from our rotation? I sure hope that means we're trading someone from the rotation otherwise this signals a big red flag on the Sox expectations for Peavy. You don't trade top prospects for a 2-3 month 5th starter stop gap.
  6. Luke Scott shouldn't have done this interview. He comes across as not only a complete douche but also a birther. Orioles have distanced themselves from his comments.
  7. His progression between when he first started playing milb for us compared to what he did last season speaks volumes about this kid. I hope we keep him in the system and let him continue to develop an eye and learn to better adjust to breaking stuff. He's got ridiculous talent and we certainly got a taste of it last season.
  8. I like it, very fair price and creative with the deferred money. I would have preferred DLee, personally, but I don't feel we overpaid compared to Paulie's market value at all.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) Do you think up to this point that the Sox have had more conversation with Konerko or DLee? According to some writer, Konerko's agent hasn't even spoken with the Sox yet and won't until the winter meetings. I'd imagine that KW, giving his due diligence, has to have atleast had some sort of feeler out for what DLee is looking for.
  10. Love me some PK but last season kind of came out of nowhere. If you sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal chances are you'll never see anything even close to last season. A mediocre PK season is equal to a mediocre DLee season, for a whole lot less money. Outside of '06, last season was a career year for Paulie. At 35, you just can't count on much more of that.

  12. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 28, 2010 -> 12:34 AM) I love this team. Now only if we could upgrade the 2 position. I can't watch Bogans start the whole year. Why is Bogans starting over Brewer? Not that Brewer is the great shooter we need, but I like what he brings to both ends of the floor. Bogans is pretty good at missing wide open shots but, still, I'd prefer Brewer starting.
  13. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) I agree with KW for once. If you are not going to be competitive next season, sell off the veterans with value and start rebuilding to contend, being half way between contending and rebuilding has no benefit. If KW cant sign/acquire the players that are going to put this team into contention, tear this thing down and start rebuilding. The only problem I have with that is that the Sox minor league scouts have not shown to have a great track record of evaluating talent. With a starting 5 of Danks, Floyd, Jackson, Buehrle, and Peavy/Sale, we're going to be competitive. It didn't work out very well last season (though we did win 88 games) I would say that we're actually entering this season with a much stronger rotation (lose Freddy add Edwin). We have holes and the pen could be an issue, but with a staff like that you're nearly guaranteed a .500 record with nothing more than a meager offense. KW has to know this and, imo, believes this as he has always placed a premium on SP.
  14. I've been here for a while and I can tell you that there's one guy in this thread that I'm absolutely convinced has a damn good source....he's been spot on about a few things. He's never come out and said, "yo, check out this insider info I've got" but he'll drop names of players, etc. very nonchalantly and next thing you know we're in the running for said player. Now that I know he has a PM list for this info, I sure wish I were on it
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) So no one reads a statement from KW that Peavy will be on the DL as KW actually saying "Peavy's going to win 6 games for me in April and I'm going to rake someone over the coals for one of my pitchers"?
  16. Great news despite his shaky 2nd half last season.

  18. Per Sportsline....and props to them for making fun of Cowley http://dave-andriesen.blogs.cbssports.com/...297882/25554357
  19. While I'm glad to see him go, I think Walk was just starting to mature into being a hitting coach. This is the first season he's been on board that we didn't consistently fail against pitchers we hadn't seen before. That alone tells me he matured. On the other hand, our hitters made no adjustments throughout a game, seemed to be without a game plan for each at bat, and he was still missing mechanical flaws (see Beckham stating he wasn't opening up early or it taking a year to figure out Rios hands were starting too high, both of which were easily seen on video).
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) Which is opposed to most other GM's mantras of "I really hope we lose." While veiled, my point was that he doesn't believe in 5 year rebuilds....he always wants to be competitive.
  21. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) There is nothing wrong with having a fourth or fifth starter who pitches for less than a million a year. What about 3 fourth or fifth starters because, apparently, that's the OP's point....we should have hung onto a bunch of bottom of the rotation pitchers because they're cheap. KW has been an absolute Godsend to this franchise. Our drafts are looking CONSIDERABLY better (see Sale, Beckham, Mitchell), we've stolen some great undervalued talent from other teams, and, other than the aforementioned 4&5 SPs, we haven't given up dick. Not to mention the fact he actually wants to win. Other than a hiccup here or there, he doesn't sign bad contracts that are anchors to this team. OG is the problem with this team. For a guy who has played as much baseball as he has, watched as much baseball as he has, and coached as much as he has...the guy makes some of the most idiotic management decisions I've ever seen....and it's getting worse! You'd think he'd have learned by now what works well and what doesn't but, nope, he just continues to make the same poor choices. I hope he's gone before opening day.
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) Manny has obviously been a waste of money, but mainly because this team is too far out with too little games to play. But to think Manny is done and needs to retire? Absolutely hilarious. Yeah...I'm with you. I'm not sure why KW is catching hell for making a move to improve our chances? Either y'all think Kotsay/Jones was a better DH option or you are an investor in this franchise. Me, I'm a White Sox fan and I was thrilled to see someone of Manny's ability come on board. He's disappointed, but I definitely liked the move.
