QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 03:18 AM) I noticed PaleHoseGeorge has finally lost his mind. In the roadhouse, he's collecting names of people doubting the club and denying them access to the website if they make the postseason. We should start doing this. It would sure root out the "dark clouds." I think it's great that he's banning all these people for nothing more than a single negative post. That means we should see a nice increase in membership here at Soxtalk, the best White Sox forum on the internet!

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 12, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) I never said that it's just their fault. Go back and look at a post from a month ago, I feel like this has been a total organizational collapse. From the GM to the Manager to the coaches to the players. All I know is that I just hope KW isn't the scapegoat if the Sox don't make the playoffs. I respect the fact that you've got questions about this team, but I read the words "don't make the playoffs" so much in your posts that I am completely lost on how you throw about those words so easily. Have you looked at the #'s? Do you realize that our woes in the recent months would be nothing compared to the collapse that would have to occur in the next 25 days to eliminate us from the playoffs? I mean, look at the schedule, man. Look at the wild card race. Unless CLE takes 6/6 from us coupled with poor play against KC and MIN (atleast 2 sweeps) we're going to be in the playoffs. Now what we do in the playoffs is completely debatable, but reading your posts about "don't make the playoffs" make me feel like I'm watching a bad episode of 20/20 discussing the chances of two meteors colliding in the earth's atmosphere resulting in huge chunks of debris destroying major cities...could it happen, sure....is it really something worth discussing, no.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) Oh, no, no, no. Contreras will not be back with the White Sox next year. couldn't disagree with you more. And since when is$6-7M for guy who has finally shown how dominant he can be in this league a "bad" contract?

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 11, 2005 -> 11:49 PM) I don't fault them for bringing it up at all. Who have we beaten since August. Off the top of my head... 3 wins against the yankees. 1 against boston. 2 against Minnesota. -- who has no offense. The rest of our wins have come against teams well out of the race... We played phenomonal ball in the first half, beating good teams and weak teams. This second half the team looks tired and has battled some injuries, not to mention the mental letdown that comes with a 15.5 game lead. The ONLY reason our decline has been as noticeable as it has is because CLE is playing just f***ing ridiculous baseball since they were swept by the Sox in July.

Although Pulp Fiction is probably one of my top 5 movies of all-time, my nod goes to Reservoir. The dialogue in that movie is just unf***ingbelievable.

I'd disagree with trading Jose. We've had a lot of patience with him and it's finally beginning to payoff, not a good time to deal him. Granted, his value is high, but his value is also high to this team. Duque has got to be the odd man out and I actually believe that he will have some real value on the trade market. FA market isn't all that great this offseason for pitchers and there are many teams with absolute CRAP 4th and 5th starters. I'm sure that many of those teams would be willing to dish out $4-5M next season for a nice upgrade in those rotation slots. The way the Count has been pitching, he's a #1 on many teams yet his reputation will not return talent equivalent to that which an ace should net us.

Maggs turned down a larger contract with a now winning team. Anyone who thinks he doesn't atleast second-guess, not necessarily regret, his decision must think that Maggs lacks a competitive nature. As far as the fans booing him, he deserved it. The shade and lies that spilled out of he and Boras's mouths were ridiculous, the most shady being his refusal to share his medical records with the White Sox prior to the arbitration deadline. That was nothing more than a big "f*** you" to the Sox and their fans...well, f*** you too Maggs.

cheating or no cheating, those splits are absolutely insane.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) A.) To the idiots in the Ranger's organization who think McAllen, 750 miles away is part of their "local market" f*** You! B.) To the idiots at Time Warner who do not offer Ranger games here in the Rio Grande Valley, 750 miles south of Dallas, f*** You! C.) To the idiots at mlb.tv who have blocked me from today's games because of A and who don't care about B, f*** You! I cleared my schedule, stocked up on snacks and beverages, and patiently awaited BMac taking the mound with Garland as the opening act, and wham! I'm screwed. I'm up in Tulsa, we're also considered Rangers local market. No games for me today via Extra Innings or cable.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) I feel your pain. My Extra Innings package only works on one TV in the house, the one with teh digital box. Of course that's teh TV that gets all thestuff my wife wants to watch diring the games and so my monopolizing of the TV during baseball season has been the source of considerable friction. Watching the spectacular Freddie and Santana pitcher's duel the other night, my wife complained that "There's nothing happening" and "why can't we switch to something else?"!!! SnB, do you think your girlfiend can give my wife a call and tell her how things are supposed to work? I have the EXACT same problem. Last year was horrible, it was nearly a nightly battle for the TV. This year, for whatever reason, things have actually gotten a bit better and she's willing to watch more games. She told me to get another cable box before this season started, which I failed to do, so I figured this year would be worse. Although the wife would never admit it, I really think she's starting to enjoy watching some of the games.

QUOTE(Jake @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 04:39 AM) BMac??? It's been a long day. Thanks for catching that

In 6-7 years when Hernandez is considered a legend, BMac is really going to have something to brag about by dealing King Felix his first two HRs allowed.

#31 and 32 hit out today by Jr. He's on a tear.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) Nah, it was always 'maybe next week', 'I'll give you guys 2 days' notice', etc. I shoulda known. Only consistent pitcher on my fantasy team=doomed. f*** man, I'm right there with ya. This one definitely hurts. I held off making a big deal for a pitcher at the trade deadline in my money league because Halladay was supposed to be back.

I absolutely loved watching last night's ballgame, despite the outcome. That's what baseball is all about, those guys (pitchers and D) left it all out on the field, Chi and Min. That put those close yankee games in NY to shame, IMO. It's been awhile since I've watched a game and was seriously on the edge of my seat for nearly every pitch. Freddy was pitching not only for his team, but for his venezuelan pride. Santana was pitching to keep hope alive for his entire team, while trying to prove to Freddy why he's the best pitcher out of venezuela. The D on both sides knew the importance of the game in the standings, while the Sox D laid it all on the line to keep Freddy's hope at the no-no intact. I have no idea how in the hell so many people can call baseball boring.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:22 AM) I don't care if f***ing God is pitching. You get more than 3 hits. That's all I ask. Please, don't even try to spin this one guys. hey, we could be the twins, they only had 1 hit. -

I didn't expect to win tonight against Santana. Freddy pitched a helluva a ballgame, deserved the win, didn't get it. It was a s***ty way to lose, but I know that many on this board expressed their tempered expectations for tonight's game against the hottest pitcher in MLB. -
BOS is going to be a thorn in our sides with neither MB or Contreras being effective against them. Chances are that if we see BOS it will be in the best of 7 ALCS, which will more than likely require a 4 man rotation...don't know how much I like that. As far as Count being in the playoff rotation, I'm not completely convinced yet. I can't think of a game with more pressure than his gem in NY against his former mates in front of a crowd that despises him. That outing showed that he appears to be turning a corner because that game REQUIRED a strong mental approach, and he definitely had his brain working the right way. If he keeps this up over the rest of the season, you've got to really consider him worthy of a rotation spot. Same with Mark, he looks completely lost on the mound in his last few starts. He's gotten consistently bombed by 2 teams who could be our opponents in the playoffs. I mean s***, if a team has him figured out and has proven they'll run him out of a ballgame in a hurry, why the hell would ozzie start him, especially in a game 1? There's no doubt that if MB gets back to pitching the way he was earlier in the season, he'd warrant that #1 slot, but not if he can't get it back together by the end of the season. The dude earlier posted our rotation's #s for the season, let's look at the last month, that's what's important. Come Oct, whatever MB did in May is completely useless, if he's off, he's off. We've just got to trust Ozzie. It's not like he'd be sitting an RJ or Santana, a near guaranteed win. Our rotation is much different than most playoff staffs being we've got 5 starters who are all capable of shutting an offense down, but cannot be counted on to shut an offense down. You've got to go with the hot hands.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Aug 18, 2005 -> 03:19 AM) Please refer to my post in some other thread...hold on let me copy it over here Sorry about that man, just read that other thread after posting this...mod can merge if they want. That's the difficult thing, with an 11 game lead and the best record in the AL, it certainly becomes difficult to justify the firing of a coach. But at the same time, should a team be more proactive than reactive? All firings obviously are reactive to a degree, but firing Walker at this point, after a month long offensive slump, would be proactive, the kind of ballsy decision that an organization has to make. If you wing it with Walk based upon the team's record, while ignoring that that record is mostly the result of excellent D and pitching, you accept mediocrity, imo. If the org gets proactive, letting the players know that these s***ty atbats/approaches will not stand, it sends a message while there's still time to improve prior to the playoffs. When the weather gets cold in OCT and the offense continues to swing for the fences, we're going to be in a world of hurt.

Since Aug 1st, we're averaging 3.4RPG in series against BAL, TOR, SEA, NYY, BOS and MIN. MIN and BOS are the only two of those teams that you could consider having a decent starting staff. Take out the 1 game we scored 8 runs against BOS (which we of course lost) and our average drops to a weak 3.0RPG this month. Now I really don't believe that Walk's job is in jeopardy, but should it be considering we've basically got 2 guys in our lineup hitting the ball right now? Most of these "slumps" aren't so much slumps as just flawed approaches at the plate. The Sox are striking out at an alarming pace and our BA is plummeting, meanwhile most of our scoring comes via the longball. Smartball? Obviously the hitting coach and players aren't on the same page as the manager.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) August batting averages BA/OBP/HR/RBI (In Podsednik's case it's stolen bases and runs instead of home runs and rbis) Podsednik .138/.167/2/2 Iguchi .259/.333/1/2 Dye .222/.329/0/1 Crede .130/.167/1/1 Uribe .133/.278/0/0 Perez .200/.333/0/1 whoa....this is a serious funk we are in. I know it's only 8 games, but sheesh...that's a bad eight games. Pierzynski, Rowand and Konerko are all hitting the cover off the ball in August, but the rest of the team is seriously awful right now. Everett was hitting .286 in August when he went down... I guess the good news is that even with this funk we are 4-4 in August.... Regardless of what others may think, I think you've put something that we've all known into #'s...thanks. I wouldn't say that we've had a very good offense at any point this season, but right now these guys are downright horrible. Non-strikeout pitchers are ringing up a hefty portion of our lineup, the short pop outs are becoming epidemic, as is the lack of clutch hitting. We're in a unique situation when compared with other playoff bound teams, our pitching is what's getting us there. Problem is that we can't count on the pitchers/defense to hold teams like the yankees, bosox, and anaheim to one run every game. The offense needs to SOMEHOW scrape together atleast 3 runs nearly every night. El Duque pitched one helluva ballgame last night, leaving everything he had on mound (110+pitches on his weak arm) and walked away with a loss. Think he'll feel some pressure in his next start? Pitchers shouldn't walk onto the mound knowing that they're already in a deficit because the O can't score. Solutions? I don't know, I really don't know what's happened. You can't exactly teach clutch hitting. Some guys don't look like they're taking the proper approaches in certain situations, but outside of that guys are just choking at the plate. I understand the trade market was absolute horses***, but I'm starting to become concerned that we're going to pay dearly for not getting a high contact/mediocre power LH hitter. I understand that KW did his best, but man, what a bad year for a s*** market.
