  1. Good catch, also the headline was changed from Loaiza Expected To Be Released to announcing Russell's recall.
  2. Garcia is nowhere near ready to contribute and the Sox have a need now. I have not heard whether Loaiza got his outright release or if they're going to buy time (DL stint). They like Russell a lot, especially his bulldog mentality, which can go a long way in the role they've pegged him for. However if he can't get the job done, Williams will bring someone else in and I'm sure he's got ideas already, just in case. It stands to reason one of those contingency plans down the line might be Garcia.
  3. I wonder if they'll DL Loaiza? The financial impact is extremely minimal and Cooper stated in the paper today that Loaiza is more or less in rehab mode. Who knows. It might be better to just cut the cord, but if they think he just needs a few weeks and maybe a rehab stint in AAA, the DL is their option.
  4. If not already. Tons of reclamation projects available as we speak.
  5. One thing about Adam Russell, he comes right at you and isn't afraid of the bat, like MacDougal. His control hasn't been the best in AAA though, he's been walking a guy every other inning. I like him and hopefully he contributes.
  6. Not to mention that .207 batting average.
  7. In other news, Adam Russell is back up and Loaiza is expected to be released.
  8. Something of a preview article for Great Falls, who've changed their nickname from the White Sox to the Voyageurs: http://www.greatfallstribune.com/apps/pbcs...312/1006/SPORTS
  9. Harrelson just commented that Carlos Quentin has a bad right hand he's battling. Bruised, swollen, etc.
  10. Not that this is the thread for this question, but is he out of the game, or ?
  11. Well pretty much everything has gone wrong thus far. Unfortunately Detroit is talented and is due some breaks, they seem to be getting them. Vazquez couldn't put Cabrera away and then our Cabrera wasn't expecting the throw from Ramirez. A good at bat by Miguel Cabrera and a not so good non execution by Orlando Cabrera. Also a bad mistake to Marcus Thames, who seems to be looking for that rolling breaking ball. Also, and I know this is unfair, but why wouldn't Brian Anderson take a pitch or two on his at bat? He hasn't seen much live pitching, there are two out, his pitcher just went through an arduous inning. Certainly not to exonerate the two hitters before him, but hey, if it's me I take a few pitches just to get the feel of live pitching again.
  12. Actually I agree the Sox brass is way ahead of us or at least they should be. As for your question, of course things can be and should be discussed. Not sure what your problem is. I believe I clearly stated it's a message board and things are discussed, responded to, etc. As I think it was northside that said, if people think something is dumb, they'll say so.
  13. And it would be a dumb idea to bring Fields up starting with the Colorado series. Here is why, as explained by several other posters as well as me: 1. He is just starting ... just starting ... to find his stroke at Charlotte. He needs to play every day, he needs to hit every day. That won't happen if he's here right now, regardless of your rotation ideas. 2. Ozuna is doing what he does best. Being a reserve, giving the manager speed and flexibiity. Not sure what if any games you're watching, but his speed is just fine. He's made more than a few excellent baserunning plays over the past few weeks. He is a good influence in the clubhouse by all accounts, everyone loves him, the team is playing well and it's not a great idea to mess with the chemistry. OPS? He's a reserve fill in player. OPS isn't what a guy like him is measured on. 3. If anything, they need a left handed hitter on the bench. They don't have one right now but they do have a few right handed hitters on the bench. Yet you are advocating bringing in another right handed hitter who is striking out once every three times vs. AAA pitching. Forgive me if I feel that's faulty logic at best. 4. This is a pennant race. What he did last year in a no pressure environment means very little right now. 5. The best defensive backup they have at 3B is Juan Uribe. He is already on the roster. If Crede needs his back rested, they have one guy who can provide a spark and energy (Ozuna) and another who can provide stellar defense (Uribe). 6. There are reasons why Williams and Guillen haven't brought Fields up. Many of those reasons are stated in points 1 through 5 above. It seems to me they know their personnel and what they need pretty well. 7. The interleague aspect of double switches, etc. won't come into effect these next two series. They're being played in AL parks where the designated hitter is used. They have two more interleague series on the road, vs. the Cubs and the Dodgers. Further, it is more valuable to have defensive flexibility in situations where you are moving players around. Ozuna plays at leasts 3 positions. Fields plays one.
  14. Agree on giving Q a day off tomorrow, it does look like he needs it. Also it would give Anderson a chance to play two days in a row which might help him.
  15. And I in turn appreciate those who say something is crap if they believe it's crap, especially if they feel the crap is emanating consistently from one particular thread starter. It's a message board. If people think the topic is crap, they'll say so, and they'll say why. Nor will they attempt to insulate themselves on the basis of their membership number. You can always PM so this doesn't get into a back and forth here in your Freddie Garcia thread. As for Garcia, the White Sox brass are way ahead of you as I said. They have been closely monitoring Freddy Garcia and will continue to do so. They will also seek out and add additional pitching depth if it becomes necessary.
  16. Brian Anderson in the lineup tonight, Konerko out. Cabrera SS Pierzynski C Quentin LF Thome DH Dye RF Swisher 1B Crede 3B Ramirez 2B Anderson CF
  17. I think you're reading too much into it, under the guise of "trying to help".
  18. That's right, and I responded to this angle as well. The natural course of things as you said.
  19. Now why would you think I'm upset, I'm not upset at all. Let me ask you this, why do you have the need to comment? Are you upset? The guy brought up something about Freddy Garcia, I responded. He brought up something about having a lower membership # and how it should somehow insulate him, I responded. Isn't responding to threads and topics the natural course of things?
  20. What does time of arrival on this site have to do with anything? You tried that "I've been a fan since 1970" stuff before, so what, I've been a fan since 1966. Time of being a fan or time being on this site means squat. It seems people are telling you they don't like what you post. They are responding to the post by doing so. Maybe take a hint instead of telling people to shut up. And yes, Garcia's name has been brought up here many many times this year already. On to topic as you say. Sure, fine, they should monitor Garcia and they are. Guillen, who is arguably as close to him as anyone (although not a son-in-law technically, Garcia is married to the wife's cousin), has stated he doesn't think Garcia will pitch effectively this year. That's been publicized a few times this year. They are monitoring the situation though, they've had scouts watching him and following his rehab, just as they did with Colon. So, they are way ahead of you on this. If they need depth/insurance, they'll know it and they'll get it, whether it's Freddy Garcia or someone else. See Esteban Loaiza as Exhibit A.
  21. Gettin' on your nerves huh? What's that simmering sound I hear, sounds kinda like boiling water ready to bubble over
  22. Just to be a contrarian here, sometimes it's best to let these kids go ahead and enroll in college. While I am excited about them drafting guys with upside, this guy is extremely raw. There's no saying that the Sox can't track him through a few years of college and draft him again ... if he's any good which three years of college will show. Of course I understand about "wasting" a draft pick, i.e. why draft him if you won't sign him. But this Jordan Danks thing is a good example. Draft a kid, establish a good relationship with him and his family, and target him later. Even if someone else drafts him there's no saying the guy wouldn't be available in a trade down the line. Another example is a guy the White Sox took last year in the 10th round, a shortstop, Brian Guinn Jr. They negotiated right to the deadline and the kid's dad and KW (who know one another from way back) decided it would be best for everybody if he took the baseball scholarship to Cal. This years results bear out the decision. Guinn didn't play much his freshman year, had limited at bats, and while he had a decent enough batting average, he didn't show much discipline at the plate and was below average in the field. Clearly he was only borderline ready for college baseball, let alone pro baseball. Anyway, I understand wanting to sign all the picks. Just wanted to point out a different angle.
  23. Ok good, I thought so but wasn't sure. When the Sox pick up a pticher like this, they're usually pretty good about knowing the guy is in relatively good health and has something to offer. Actually I don't think they'll touch the roster until all these interleague games are done.
