Yea. I disagree as well. Ventura was a great defensive player but even the years he won a gold glove...some weren't as good as Crede's. Crede has had several years comparable to Robin's. Ventura has like 5 season with 20 plus errors...Crede has a lot too, 0. Crede is one of the best defensive 3rd baseman in baseball. He just happened to get stuck behind a guy like Chavez who is also a stud. Had Crede been putting up the same offensive numbers for a while there, I bet he wouldve won. People like to claim offense doesnt factor in but it does. A good offense player gets more press, other honors, etc...and Joe didnt have near the years @ the plate Chavez had put up for a few years. To me it's a joke but that's how it goes sometimes. Just go look at the numbers and they are similar. Ventura usually put up more assists and had an edge in put outs but really look at Ventura's numbers and tell me how he'd beat out Chavez during his reign? Or how Crede wouldn't have won the Gold glove the years Ventura won it. To say that Ventura is so much better then him is craaaaaaaaaazy

No doubt but as far as I know, their intentions are nothing less then acquiring the best player available. Johan seems to be their guy. I don't ever hear anything about their vets going. All I ever hear is how they want a different guy @ 3rd. Why when you can play LaRoche? Or how they want a new OF, and want to deal Kemp cuz of his "clubhouse" issues. Move Billingsley and Broxton, or Kershaw. It's like...Why??? I just don't understand it but if someone can find me a Juan Pierre trade rumor, I'd like to see it. All I have seen is the Dodgers having intentions of moving him to LF. Just weird out of them. I guess they really want to win now.
-
That would be my ideal team next season....However, I dont know why or how everyone thinks we can get Cabrera while keeping Fields. Miggy plays third for them, so naturally, they'd want a young replacement. Hmmm, do we have one? I think so....I would assume if any deal goes down the 1st piece they ask for is Fields, followed by whatever arms they want. Everything else with that team I like. Paulie I think will be moved upon a deal for Miggy. Figgins/Kotchman may be a bit much but who knows, depends on the prospect or arm that'll be sure to come with it.
-
I don't want Pierre but I've heard nothing of them wanting to deal him either...All I have seen is him being moved to left b/c the CF market this year is better. I have seen lots of stuff on Kemp being dealt. Nothing on Pierre though.

Odds are 0%. Giles is a dumb signing IMO. He has been a terrible hitter since he has been off the juice. He and his brother both give me the vibe. I can see him being on that Mitchell report...If not, good for him, I still don't want him in our lineup. I dont even know if he had a .300 OBP last season so lead off is definately out of the question as well. 2nd. I am all for a deal for Miggy. Dont know why he'd be hitting 2nd though. And acquiring him would involve Fields. So Josh shouldnt be in the lineup. Also, why do we need the Marlins to pay his salary? We don't and more importantly...they wouldn't. Furthermore, if we got Miggy...I doubt we keep Thome/Paulie/Dye. I'd imagine Paulie is out the door and cashing a ticket to LA. Hunter isn't coming anymore if it's a 6 year deal he seeks. I thought we had a chance at him but now I am back to assuming Texas has it locked up. He was just toying with our emotions. No one is taking on Contreras. I'd be 100% shocked if KW pulled it off. We'd be better off letting him pitch here and see if he improves enough to get something for him @ the deadline. Garland I think will go but where is the question? I'd assume we get one guy who is in our everyday lineup for him. A young OF is my assumption and then a mid prospect to add into a potential Miggy deal. Pods...? Crede I'd take the risk on too at this point. Unless we get a great deal for him. JR won't spend on this team much more. He is already trying to dump payroll (IE Garland, Contreras, etc). Hunter seems to be the only guy he'd be willing to sign but that also seems to come with the terms of dealing guys so we don't have to go much higher in payroll. It is nothing like the Celtics because we don't have the same type of history they do followed up by 20 years of losing. Thats why they'll get an increase in fans. Ours are fading post-world series and I think JR has not much interest in throwing 100 mil away on a team that doesnt win, in turn making fans not watch.

Pierre has a big contract and I have seen 0 talk of the Dodgers even remotely considering dealing him. They appear to have much higher intentions of dealing their young studs for some reason. I am not quite sure why, but I have seen LaRoche, Kemp, etc... on the block more then I have Pierre. I'd assume it's a return value thing but maybe they just want a bunch of hungry old veterans on that team. Word is they are hot after Rowand or Andruw so no question someone is getting dealt, but they seem content with it being Kemp.
-
If Crede went to the Dodgers I'd be in shock. Andy Laroche > Joe Crede I understand why he'd get looked over for Arod and Miggy but not an injured Crede. Unless they absolutely hate the kid, I don't think it makes sense to put Joe there.

Didnt see this posted.... http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...=7&cxcat=46 Lil blip from our favorite mlbtraderumors.com - they sure do keep us occupied. Can't ask for more in an offseason. If they are getting that kind of package from the Dodgers...We do not stand a chance. Where are the people who thought it'd take 3 guys from our pathetic farm?
-
There isn't really a reason to get desperate...I will say this though. We will end up overpaying for one of the other 2 if Hunter takes a while and elects to go elsewhere. Since we will probably be late to the party we will throw some crazy offer at Jones or Rowand. Another problem I mentioned in a Cabrera thread I think is I am concerned with how this looks to other players and organizations. For the Cabrera part, basically if anyone was unsure about our farm and didnt trust their own scouts enough, Florida's (considered very good) confirmed that our prospects were on the lesser end and lacking Blue-chips. So them passing us over in a deal and basically leaving us on the back-burner as a last resort is somewhat embarressing and not good for other potential deals IMO. In the Hunter case. Hunter was expected to go to Texas. Fine. I still think that if we miss out on him and any other people we go after that can't be a good sign for how these other players see our team as far as contention goes. Just throwing it out there.
-
It's not so much a case of Javy that I thought he was getting at...Moreso the fact that we could've dealt Brian Anderson. In that scenario then yes the CY did hurt us.
-
Thank you for the info. I really didnt think there'd be much out there so I didnt even bother to search for it. Figured it need to be someone with some insite who caught rumblings somewhere along the line. Thanks alot. Do you know what they expect out of him as far as a full recovery?

Garland + Massett/Sisco (either) To the Mets for Fernando Martinez (prefer him but Gomez or Milledge would be acceptable), Sanchez and another prospect (nothing major). Maybe a Jon Niese or someone who has low stock. Garland to Seattle. Land a Balenten/Clement/Morrow combination...Throw into that mix a Tuiasosopo cuz I wouldn't mind a jersey with that name on it. Even a Triunfel I wouldn't mind....So some combination of 5 from those guys. If they're willing to do it for Willis like I've heard, idk how they arent for someone who didnt perform terrible in the NL. Garland to Zona. Don't know where they stand w/their pitching but I would love to get my hands on Jackson since he seems available. Gonzalez wouldn't be a bad fit and w/Cunningham performing well for him they may be willing to move Gonzalez in hopes of AC replacing Byrnes in a few years. Scherzer is probably off limits and is a Boras guy but...he is a stud and a Mizzou guy so I hold out hope...Doubt they'd do a combo of those guys so I'd say we'd have to point at one and pick from a different pile. The guy I wanted last year from Zona was Callapso b/c all I had heard about him was him being this incredible contact hitter and he was a 2nd basemen. So idk... Those are my top 3 hopeful destinations for JG. Dodgers, Reds, and someone like the Brewers round out my list. Any of these deals could help us a lot in the future and land us a huge piece in a potential Cabrera deal so I'd hope we get a good package and those teams can offer it to us.
-
I would really prefer to not sign either. Dotel is scary. I don't want him. Linebrink hasn't been pitching in the AL so for the money we'd have to shell out, I wouldnt want to sign him. He would walk into our park. Give up like 3 homers and decide that he was just going to show up and collect a paycheck instead of stressing out. (thats not a poke at his character, just me painting a picture of signing a very good reliever). Not to mention we lose a 2nd rounder. idk. One thing I mentioned in another thread and didn't get much back. Does anyone know the status of Duaner Sanchez? If he has recovered from injury, I wouldn't mind trying to steal him from the Mets. Maybe in a Garland deal get him as a throw in or something. Take a lesser prospect outside of the top-flight one we'd want and inturn add Sanchez. Can anyone tell me about his status? I was always a fan of his.

You know...I was once disappointed and discouraged at this list because I respect Goldstein's opinion's but I have now found new faith in this. It appears to be a tougher grading scale then I thought originally after seeing Boston and Baltimore's list. Both of which I pretty much agreed with and saw nothing off base. So i thought our system was still pretty thin. Until today when I read Clevelands and noticed a much worse list then I expected. He posted Cleveland's top 11 list as well yesterday or today, and guys who I considered to be better then our prospects were even or lower. Guys like Adam Miller and Beau Mills he rated 4 stars, Chuck Lofgren was a 3 and Trevor Crowe was a 2 (I am assuming cause of age?). So either he just dislikes Cleveland and they arent as good as advertised or our guys may be a little better then advertised. Either way, at least means someone with respectable baseball knowledge sees us for having prospects of value. It's rare to see it but true. I thought the only guy who valued our prospects was Schwartz @ topprosectalert.com.

yea i believe they just get a sandiwch pick and it would go to Milwaukee correct? Not the Padres?
-
Agreed. I think you could even get a low level top prospect in that deal. Seriously, this team is desperate and coming off a playoff birth/embarressment, I don't put it passed them to go all in to get what they desire. As an opposing gm, I wouldn't talk any deal with them for a star player on my team w/o that in the back of my mind. I just wouldn't. IMO this deal could be monumental...Either it'll be a joke and somehow they get Crawford for what doesnt seem like enough, or they make one of the most lopsided deals ever and hand over a ton of high-quality talent. I am hoping for the ladder. I would also love to take a risk on Prior...It's in our best interest b/c you know just simply out of Cub Karma he would win a Cy Young for us and regain his "best stuff in baseball" while changing his motion and saving his career.
-
The Rays (god it's a bad name) aren't making this selection yet...Levine reported it as if the Cubs asked if he was available and got the nod. This deal is what their "Package" is going to be from an offer standpoint. Hopefully the Rays laugh and go...we got Kazmir for Victor Zambrano. I thought their GM/Owner were supposed to be tough to deal with ever since that deal. Accepting an "overrated" Hill, Cedeno and Marmol wouldn't fit that profile. If I were them I'd get Marmol, Soto or Colvin, Hill or Marshall, and even push for a guy like Gallager/Veal. If they truly have let that Kazmir deal go to their head, how can you not demand a package that is massive. I don't think that one I suggested is realistic but it should be the counter-offer and work from there. You never know, they are so desperate that maybe the Cubs give in.
-
The report for Hunter was legit. Levine brought it up on every update so whoever asked if it was true, it is. They didnt announce a figure though unless I missed it. I listened to it all day though and didnt hear a number one time because I was listening for it after the first time it was reported. So the 13-14 mil I am fairly certain is speculation b/c I definately didnt hear Levine say it. I could've missed it though. Doubt it but it's possible. Levine said the Sox were putting the offer together today basically and that it'd be offered tomorrow I guess...He said it was a 5 year deal....He didn't change that at all, it was 5 years everytime.
-
Exactly...I don't see how a Soto/Pie isn't in this deal insteado f Cedeno....Cedeno just seems to be useless to me for that ballclub. Unless they plan on dealing Brignac.
-
Just go get this guy already...At any cost. Landing him just makes a Hunter signing more likely and also sends a message to the rest of our division that we will be contending for years to come... You miss out on this guy and potentially don't get Hunter and there will be a 5% chance that this offseason turns out a success. There are very few moves we could pull of after that that would be worth it. I have been pro-firesale for a while and I don't see how it's not a necessity once we miss out on those two...If Hunter passes on us, it shows the lack of attractiveness for the CWS and also sends a message that we must not be in that good of shape as a team...Take that and add in the fact that not acquiring Cabrera while we are the only ones seriously interested right now(other teams focused on Arod and Lowell as no.1 priority), shows that our farm is pathetic b/c the Marlins had a chance to get some guys and wanted to go elsewhere. I don't see how those two moves alone isn't a blatant state of the White Sox for us and things would need to be changed hugely. I am so sick of this rumor being out there and nothing more coming out of it...Not even a word that we upped our offer or anything. You just know nothing is happening and everyone is sitting back doing the "it's early". Meanwhile teams like the Twins, Cubs, Tigers (all rivals) are improving their teams which are already better then we are. It's a joke.
-
I posted this in another thread...sorry bout that. Anyways...I saw they think that Ronny Cedeno will be apart of the deal. Why? The Rays have Brignac who is a stud. They also still have joel Guzman who I would love to get given the chance. They already have Zobrist up and could essentially try Upton at his natural position if they wanted...More importantly, they have Iwamura at 3rd with Longoria chompin at the bits to get up to the show...If he does, Iwamura is a candidate to move to SS, is he not??? This whole Cubs rumor thing is rediculous to me if they pull it off...and if they land Crawford, KW better get his head out of his ass and get Miggy. I'd assume a package would consist of Hill and Marmol as stated on the radio...But no Cedeno. Why they wouldn't demand Pie or Soto is beyond me if the deal is serious. I would rather try for those guys and look to get a SS elsewhere. However, as I said...Hopefully just the thought of this wakes KW up.
-
Heard them talking about it today...Didnt hear Levine say a price range though, all I heard was a year total...I figured it'd be 5 years 70-75 mil though.
-
As you probably saw the Cubs dealt Craig Monroe to the Twinkies for a player to be named later. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.j...sp&c_id=chc They are also in on Crawford apparently....I heard it on ESPN 1000 from Levine and mlbtr confirms it. My favorite part about it is that for whatever reason they assume that the D-Rays want Cedeno...Hill and Marmol I understand, but why Cedeno. IMO they have one of the best SS in the minors. Reid Brignac. They also have Joel Guzman, who has apparently been shifted to potentially an OF/SS spot. Still a young kid and very talented. Either way, he is still an option at SS for the D-Rays. On their team already...They have Zobrist up and don't play Upton their but he was a SS.... So why in the world would they want another one...And why would they not require Soto, or Pie in the deal? Just obnoxious if it goes through w/o one of those two. If we had tried to get Crawford and failed, meanwhile they deal him for this package, I'd be very sickened by our player's "value" in the eyes of other teams.

Fresh out of the daily Herald...Idk if I agree with his odds but hey.
