  1. QUOTE(ptatc @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Thank You Bill James for the rhetoric about base stealing is only effective with a 75% success rate. I won't argue the numbers for base stealing. My point is that speed or even the threat of speed has a much greater effect on the game than the numbers can analyze. Look at the number of stressful pitches the starter threw or the number of pickoff attempts. All of these have a greater impact on the pitcher than just the OBP guy. This is well said, but don't expect any other people on this board to agree with this, though. KW certianly agrees with you on this point. He wouldn't fool around with Jerry Owens in CF if he didn't.
  2. At the end of the day I just don't think the Twins wanted Johan in the AL. Gomez can start in CF for the Twins next year and those 3 arms aren't top of the line, but they're not chop liver either.
  3. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) Go Brewers f*** yeah.
  4. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Check the math. Buehrle Vazquez Contreras Danks Floyd Jenks Linebrink Dotel MacDougal Thornton Logan Wasserman There's your 12. I'd probably insert Broadway in place of MacDougal's name for LR purposes.
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) It definitely is but a lot of bullpens have a ton of ifs, that's the beauty of a pen I guess you can say. I really like the depth we seem to have in the pen now, we have some nice options. Couldn't agree more. I'm glad the organization dug into their pockets to attempt to fix the bullpen. Whether it works or not...I applaud the effort and appreciate it.
  6. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Please give MacDougal away. Could be packaged with Crede.... Just a hunch.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 21, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) Good signing. Our bullpen, when/of healthy, is now much improved. Wasserman, Boone, MacDougal, Dotel, Thornton, Linebrink, Jenks? I like it. I very much agree.
  8. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) Dude, that's fine and dandy, but taking a flyer on Colon would not hurt one bit. Hell, Colon won the Cy Young just two years ago and has been injured since. I know he's not dialing it up right now, but he's always been a slow starter and I'm sure it'll take some time to work that arm speed up. That sinker can be deadly when on, and I'm 150% for rolling the dice on a cheap, incentive-laden deal. If he comes back to full health, you're looking at a guy with the talent to be one of our top starters. If he doesn't, what does it hurt? I'll go along with this.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) That sounds like at least 1 level ahead of the pace he'll probably be on, IMO. Yeah- no way he sees AAA this year. If he sees AA by season's end and holds his head above water- that'd be a success.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 05:20 PM) If Colon was willing to sign a 1 year, $3.5 million deal, I bet he'd have signed with a dozen teams by now. I'll bet he signs closer to that number than what he wanted to at the end of the day.
  11. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Rosenthal reports: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7683658...3162&ATT=49 I guess it's a decent gamble for them - if he's bad, he still would probably only be as bad as Jason Marquis or Ryan Dempster would. The Flubbies can have him....he'll get shelled at Wrigley.
  12. QUOTE(DaveBrown85 @ Jan 15, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) What about Mike Caruso or Dan Pasqua or Armando Rios? Pasqua deserves to be on here.
  13. I can't believe Timo and Flash have been named in this thread. How? I am just beside myself here.
  14. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) Me 2 Hopefully I could get a pm as well. I'll bet it has something to do with that player hitting on his wife. WOW is she hot.
  15. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) The Angels front office has to decide if they can get a stud for 3b via trade. I don't see it at this late date. Their best bet to get that slugger may be PK. If the Angels deal for PK, they may decide to hold onto Figgins for 3b and to hit leadoff. I agree that was probably a sticking point....we wanted Figgins....they wanted to give Matthews. Something along those lines was probably the deal breaker. However if they had the chance to get Erv, Howie and Speier for Konerko....they should've jumped all over it and have worried about who their leadoff hitter was later. Hell if we got Kendrick...I could stomach Jerry Owens in CF leading off.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 06:54 PM) Because right now Joe Crede is worth less than zero to most teams? Bill Hall can't be worth much more to the Brewers at over 6 mil a pop for the next three season playing out of position. Maybe he's Ricky Weeks' insurance policy at 2B at the end of the day. If the WSox would've been willing to pick up a chunk of Joe-C's contract (who knows maybe they weren't) I don't see how the Brewers wouldn't have jumped all over that. Either way, playing Hall at 3B is dumb.
  17. QUOTE(ptatc @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 06:43 PM) I see everyone's point on here and agree that he fits in with the Brewers. He is also a great guy and good for the clubhouse. I just think in the WS lineup the negatives outweight the positives. I would rather give the playing time to Quentin. Also, remember his suspension was for stimulants not steroids so hopefully they can keep him out of the leaded coffee. He just needs to pound the red bull at the end of the season to keep the motor going as opposed to hitting the amphetamines. His defense at the end of the season may falter without them. Eh this isn't that great of a signing. Cam will be in CF 25 games in....my guess is that Gwynn Jr will man CF until then. Bill Hall is below average at 3B- an upgrade over Braun- but below average at 3B. Why the Brewers wouldn't deal Hall for Crede is beyond me.
  18. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 7, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) Ok. As long as you don't want to jump ship with Fields just because he's below average defensively right now like a lot of Sox fans seem to want to do. Let him prove he can't play the position before moving him. Aramis is also a 3B that has made tremendous strides defensively. Give it time. I think we'll all be very satisfied. KW is thinking the same thing. It's easy to predict Fields will improve because he's such a great athlete.
  19. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Well, his walk rate is rather high, but I agree... he put up a 3.48 era in the AL East at 24 years old. The kid is going to be sick. That being said, the Rays have no reason to move him when they are just now getting the pitching to go along with their young hitting (though losing Delmon hurts the future prospects of their offense, Longoria should be ready to step in soon enough.) I want that sig...
  20. QUOTE(bighurt4life @ Dec 31, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) There are actually many people in baseball who think that Kazmir is one of the more overrated pitchers around. Not saying that he isn't a really good player and he's got good numbers but he may not be the ace that some think he is. Just my two cents but i think someone may end up really overpaying for him and come to regret it down the line What about Kaz is overrated exactly? The change-up he back-doors on right handers? That slider is one of the better we'll see in baseball? Or his curve ball that is about as good as it gets. Oh and he throws 94-95 a lot of the game with a fastball that moves around. He's put up eye popping numbers and he's only 24. Oh and he's a LEFTY. Did I mention that he played on perhaps the worst team in baseball against probably the most brutal of lineups inside the division? Overrated? COME ON!
  21. QUOTE(R.J. @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 11:55 PM) And to the qualm about people "acting like it's their money"... Well, money is money. If the $4.5 million that is going into Uribe's buffet budget could have been spent on, oh, I don't know, MAYBE A HIGH UPSIDE PROSPECT IN THE DRAFT, then yes, it sure does make a difference. He's the fattest thing I've ever seen...and I've been on safari.
  22. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Dec 22, 2007 -> 04:02 AM) I'm pretty sure Willie Harris never lead anything, not even the little leagues, in home runs. Ripping on Willie Ha? I have to object.
  23. I must say that this thread has been the biggest waste of time since I started posting here.
  24. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) Why not just straight up for Bedard while you have the X-box out... or throw in Chris Ray to sweeten the deal.
