  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:19 PM)
    I actually like Patterson, but then a left-fielder would have to be brought in. The only left fielder with a big enough impact to make up for Patterson's .300 OBP is probably going to jail.

    Bonds wishes he were going to a jail....that assbag will be serving prison time.

  2. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 01:31 AM)
    Ace, I don't mind if people wear their hate sideways. That's about individuality. When on the baseball field, you should follow some type of dress code, and unless you are tilting your hat to block the sun, I feel you should keep it straight. Merely an opinion, among many, but it's how I feel.

    I actually use to cock my hat to the left when I pitched. I wore it with a curve and it made it easier to see runners on 1st Base while looking over my left shoulder.

    I do however think it is completely retarded to cock it for any other reason on the baseball field.

  3. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 05:08 PM)
    And the reason why people are upset with you is that you have tried to pass your opinion as fact up until very recently. That would upset me too. Just stop saying "he's signed, announcement tommorow". If it's your opinion, say, "I think the Sox have him locked. I don't see him signing anywhere else now".

    Eh, it isn't a big deal.

    People should know more than to just go on the word of someone on a message board anyway. People should take that kind of thing for what it's worth.

    If people really took him seriously and started calling all of their Minnesota friends and talking smack......as Hawk would say....then shame on 'em.

    Not shame on 'em for talking smack to the Minnesota people of course (that is commended) but for jumping the gun.

  4. QUOTE(Scwible @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 02:19 PM)
    I heard that when they first met, Kenny had a video with those guys on it telling hunter about the city or something.

    beat me to it greg.

    Brining up Big Ben in any conversation with Hunter makes me want to steer clear of Hunter that much more.

  5. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 02:32 PM)
    Forget the Torii as DH idea. Forget it. We don't need another DH.

    I think Stone meant 2 or 3 years from now after Hunter's body can't play everyday anymore due to being old and beat up.

  6. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 12:01 AM)
    And part of pitching is defense, especially if your staff isnt striking guys out at a good rate.

    Something I just thought of, and it's probably not a huge point but it holds some relevance, and that's that Vazquez had his best years in Montreal with Orlando Cabrera as his shortstop. Whether that's mere coincidence or not, I don't know, but it is true.

    If we do end up inking Hunter, that'll give give two new gold glove additions in important areas (CF ans SS).

    I can't think of a better way to bring up young pitching than to put a great defense behind it.

    It looks as if KW is taking the route of letting Danks, Floyd, Gio, Broadway and Egbert fight it out for the last two rotation spots going into next year. I know some people may be down about that, but not me. A youth movement at the end of the rotation may be a great thing for us going forward and would be worth the gamble.

    Give me the promise of the future over the glory of the past time any day.

  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 05:57 PM)
    Also, we still need a leadoff hitter in all of this.

    I'm really hoping that Pods isn't back with us. But if we can't trade Crede for a leadoff hitter who can play LF, is KW really going to give that spot to Owens? No I can't see that happening myself.

    And what leadoff hitters are available out there (and isn't going to break the bank)?

    Would KW and Ozzie really give the leadoff spot to a Luke Scott type of hitter, someone without speed? I would say no.

    With a quality #2 like OC, I don't hate the idea of giving Owens a shot to lead off as much as before we got OC.

  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 05:42 PM)
    So just a couple of questions and points quickly;

    1 - It's essentially Garland for Cabrera, and the cash it's freed up has probably ensured that we are to sign Hunter if the above report is true? How are people with that overall scenario?

    2 - Is Hunter worth 75/5 (or even more)? At 1st glance, definitely not. At least we'll be hurting the Twins I suppose.

    3 - What draft picks do we lose for signing Hunter?

    4 - Signing Hunter for $15M, lose Garland for $12M, Cabrera for $9M, and we'd probably being paid about $2M. That's an overall gain of $10M. What's our total payroll at, and if we traded Crede and got rid of his $5M salary how would that impact it?

    5 - Now with the Hunter signing, do we concentrate on fixing the pen, or do we have to find a SP to fill in for Garland?

    Answer for #3 is we'd be losing our 2nd Rnd pick due to the fact that Hunter is a Type A FA and we lost 90 games last year so we only forfeit a 2nd rather than a 1st.

  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 12:54 PM)
    What was it, game 4 against the Angels? On 10 days rest, sinker not working at all, and he comes back and throws a complete game with nothing but his fastball?

    That was Game 3, when the series was 1-1.

    Some guys have overwhelming stuff and some guys just know how to pitch.

    Garland certainly knew how to pitch, but more importantly, he knew how to win.

    It was a pleasure, Jon Garland.

  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 03:34 PM)
    Hes also a great leader and clubhouse guy and brings energy to the field which was lacking last season. Most angels fans are upset about losing his character, and rightfully so.

    I'll bet Vlad isn't happy about this. The past few years, OC has been their 2nd best hitter IMO.

    Vlad and OC appeared to have been extremely close as well. I feel bad for Vlad but feel great for us.

  11. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 02:11 PM)
    I liked Garland but I think the White Sox got the better end of this deal. I believe Cabrera is better then Renteria and Furcal and this team is better because of it.

    HELL YEAH!

    I loved this deal when I saw it go across the bottom of the screen during the Marquette game. (I LOVE finding out great news that way)

    People should know that I don't like KW, but I have to give it up for KW on this one. OC is a hell of a ball player. He immediately upgrades our small ball, speed and defense.

    He fits this team like a glove. IF we can re-sign OC to a short extension, this deal will have been a smashing success. We have a hell of a better chance re-signing OC than we did Garland.

    So long, Jon Garland. Thanks for all you've done on the South Side.

    WELCOME OC!!!!

  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 05:11 PM)
    Well you're big on telling people not to nitpick stats... I took his number for the full year. 2008, if they both play full seasons, Pierre and Owens will probably be nearly identical players.

    So for anything more than a couple million (for Pierre's one value over Owens - proven time - against Owen's potential), I'll stay away from Pierre.

    That all said, just to reiterate, I don't think either one should be the #1 option.

    Owens showed a lot of improvement last year and it was good to see.

    I don't mind Owens in LF next year if we can get a capable CF.

  13. QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 09:14 AM)
    Even if they are picking up most of his contract, I still do not want him here.

    It's all a moot point because the Dodgers are interested in moving him to LF for THEMSELVES. They're not going to deal him so we need not worry.

  14. QUOTE(spiderman @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 03:13 PM)
    That's the going rate now though especially for someone as durable as he's been.

    Agreed, but at the same time, after signing all of their pitchers to multiple yr/double digit per year contracts and getting burned...I don't think they'll do it again. I really think they'll go a different route this time. Re-signing MB and Javy to those big deals is probably all they want to do.

    KW will have to take the Jerry Angelo approach at some point and say, "You can't have your cake and eat it, too."

    He's going to have to rely on guys like Danks and Gio to play big rolls on our big league club sooner rather than later.

  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 02:56 PM)
    While your point is taken...I think it would be foolish to insist on pitching as a return for JG given the state of our minor leagues and the fact that we're mildly stronger on pitching talent than on position players. Naturally, if someone offers you a Kershaw you laugh all the way to the bank, but barring that, I would put a higher priority on finding someone who could play the field somewhere.

    That could be- and we'd get picked off by the police before we made it to the bank with Kershaw...

    I may sound like a broken record in saying this trade, but a deal with Zona for Owings/Nippert and Pena would be ideal in KW's mind IMO.

  16. QUOTE(spiderman @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 02:40 PM)
    If the White Sox are unable to sign Hunter, might they be willing to look at resigning Garland instead with this money ? Just an idea, but it's hard to compete with a mediocre starting rotation.

    It isn't a bad idea, however I don't think the WSox want to give Garland an MB contract. Not that he isn't worth it to them, but I don't think they want to tie up another SP for multiple seasons at 12 mil/year.

  17. QUOTE(spiderman @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 02:51 PM)
    I don't think the White Sox are going to dump players in order to improve the farm system - they resigned Dye and Buerhle to compete now.

    Agreed, although Garland is certainly a player they'll look to dump for multiple young Grade B arms.

  18. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 10:00 AM)
    1. Stewart/Owens, LF

    2. Loretta/Richar, 2B

    3. Thome, DH

    4. Konerko, 1B

    5. Dye, RF

    6. Fields, 3B

    7. Pierzynski, C

    8. Hall, SS

    9. Crisp, CF

    I'm hoping this is similar to our starting lineup next season. I'm not hot on Loretta, however and don't think he's looking to platoon with a guy like Richar. You can also replace Uribe with Hall on there.

    But everything else I really agree with.
