  1. DeMeco Ryans got traded to the Eagles for an undisclosed pick. Good look for the Eagles who desperately needed a LB, but not sure why the Texans pulled the plug on him. Ryans is a tackling machine.
  2. QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 05:48 PM) i obviously love the marshall deal, but the bears have done almost nothing in FA (backup Qb and ST) to improve over last year - i sure hope emery drafts well, cuz we still need OL, DL and DB....and maybe TE too FA is not the way to fill needs on your team long-term. It's expensive and busts the cap. Emery spent quite a bit of the Bears' cap space still trying to leave room for Cutler's extension next year.
  3. I ran some quick numbers for people who are concerned about the OL going into next year. For the 10 games Jay Cutler was playing where the Bears had a reasonably functional offense and rhythm, the O-line gave up 5, 6, 3, 1, 3, 2, 0, 2, and 0 sacks, for 23 sacks altogether. As we all know, in 2010 they gave up 52 sacks. This was a MARKED improvement from the year before. Extrapolated out to a full season, this is about 37 sacks. That’s a lot, but for a Martz offense, it’s a pretty decent (even with Orlando Pace at LT it wasn’t unusual to see Kurt Warner get sacked 40 times). The first two games were rough, and after that they had settled in, and Martz started calling different plays once Cutler had publicly called him out. They ended the year with 49 sacks, which of course sucks. Why? Well the next 4 games, after Cutler got hurt and Chris Williams went on IR around the same time, they gave up 4, 7, 4, and 4 sacks! Even though the line was banged up by this point, those sacks weren’t all on them. It was because… and listen closely to the next part… CALEB HANIE DID NOT KNOW WHAT IN THE BLUE f*** HE WAS DOING. That was the new denominator that messed up the whole equation. He was getting sacked twice as often as Cutler! That is not a coincidence at all. The next 2 games with McCown in his place had him getting sacked 0 times, and then 7 times. The last game, against Minnesota, you can pin almost entirely on J’Marcus Webb getting sodomized badly by Jared Allen. Other than that… as a unit, with Cutler settled in, they were performing fine. Forte was putting up elite numbers both rushing and receiving. The problem with that offense was the lack of credible receivers, not bad blocking.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 05:28 PM) I'm going to take a look at it now, but I'm still not sure it really offers anything I need that my original iPad does not. When I am mobile, I don't ever really encounter much that I can't accomplish with my phone, and the rest of the time, I'll just use my desktop. I use my iPad mainly for dicking around on the couch instead of using a laptop, or while traveling. Can't imagine the resolution is such an important feature that it would be worth paying the $ for the few times I travel. Before I get too far, however, I need to go check it out. I know it's significantly more powerful but so far I've never looked down at my iPad 2 and thought "gee, I wish this thing was brighter, sharper, and clearer" I mean it's what, a 7" screen? I barely even notice that kind of thing until the screen is at least about 20 inches
  5. Mass Effect 3 is hot sex.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 09:07 PM) Deng: 1/7, Boozer: 1/5, Rose: 1/9 from field. 3/21 combined. Team 6/10 from FT line. 43-42 Pacers at the half. It could be a lot worse. They are exhausted, 3rd game in 4 days and they look it. 25 from the bench and 17 from the starters. Can we put Rip's whole body in a mask?
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 06:57 PM) You are getting a guy with hands of glue who is supposedly a tremendous mentor and would be a great coach for our younger receivers. To be frank, I'd see very little negative in having a guy like Ward, assuming you aren't planning on using him in anything more than a 4th wideout role. Bears right now have: Bennett (legit, can be a good #2) Knox (busted back, may not even play in 2012, but a #3 or #4 at best on a good WR corps) Hester (sucks) Sanzenbacher (perhaps has potential, but for now sucks) So they need to find a legit #1, someone who can get about 1200-1400 yards. Bennett should be good for about 900, maybe 1000 in a full season. The other guy they sign (whose spot Ward would be taking) needs to be able to get at least about 600 with the remaining yards scattered between whoever else... I don't see Ward capable of that at this stage in his career. They need better than a 4th WR, they already have guys like that QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 06:59 PM) Great. Sign him as a WR coach. This.
  8. In this country it's almost always illegal, even suggesting it is. If someone is a licensed/certified massage therapist they won't do it... if you know any, ask them sometimes how many people try to ask on the sly, they'll probably roll their eyes.
  9. Soooo 2K5 and Balta fight in every thread on this site. We can now officially add "my Facebook profile" to that list of places
  10. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 05:25 PM) Maryland passes gay marriage bill But there is gonna be a referrendum in November... sigh. Which probably means it'll be overturned... which probably means it'll get sued, and go down just like Prop 8 and end up being legal anyway... huge waste of everyone's time
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 04:31 PM) I don't call that Frum article "criticism". It is way past that, into gloating and raging asshole-ism. "Honest" in this case has everything to do with which side of the aisle you stand on, and the ability to justify doing the same thing without feeling any guilt for it. To me, they were both poisonous. You know who Frum is though? Right? He's not exactly some DailyKos-posting liberal
  12. I don't know what anyone who wants Ward on the Bears would be trying to accomplish. You're getting a 36-year old WR (he's 35 but his birthday is coming up) who's sharply declined the past 2 years and has about nothing left in the tank, and can't run anymore. If you're signing free agents, how would they need to be "mentored" or "shown the ropes"? If you want him to coach, give him a navy blue hoodie and a clipboard. Otherwise we need the roster spot, and contrary to what appears to be popular belief, we don't have roster spots to just blow like that.
  13. Omiyale is the worst player in the NFL, I'm pissed that he was on this team so long. Emery still batting 1.000. Sad to see Adams go but it had to happen.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) It didn't start with Obama or Ronnie. You can go back to the organization of the Fed Bank itself if you really want to. I wouldn't say it STARTED with Reagan but the modern industry as we see it started to be shaped up around the time I was born.
  15. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 20, 2012 -> 07:35 PM) That was pretty lame, especially for you. Must have been busy chasing Cookie and Buttercup or Bambi or whatever their names were. Lol. My cats? Girls named them, don't blame me for that, Anyway any way you want to look at it the banking corruption started in the early 80s, Reagan couldn't stand Volcker so he put in Greenspan... That's when the ball got rolling. Everything traces back to this era. The idea that corruption in finance started with Obama is kind of hilarious, it took decades.
  16. I'd hate the thought of my cats going out like that.
  17. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 09:04 PM) Reagan has created a new entitlement class. His banker buddies. fixed
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 20, 2012 -> 02:40 AM) I think he meant total, game in the 3rd. Oh. 8 total game points in the 3rd. Yeah that sucks
  19. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 19, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) 8 pts for Howard vs Miami in the 3rd, and this guy is the premier center in the league. How is this bad? Over a full game that's 32 points.
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 19, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) No blame is ever put on Kenny Williams here on Soxtalk.com Lol, this is a bulls*** statement... How many Hudson/Jacksom threads were there?
  21. You'll have to forgive me if I'm just not willing to accept "yes it was there" as some kind of self-asserting fact when at the time I'd read nothing to the effect that such a thing was possible. 4 years wasn't that long ago. Also iirc, GM didn't actually want to go through bankruptcy (something they probably should've done a couple years prior when the availability of financing wouldn't have been a problem, and it would've gotten a lot of dead weight off their books) and the government basically strong-armed them into it.
  22. Without looking at numbers, I'd say D'Antoni's teams historically have trouble against strong halfcourt teams, i.e., the ones you find in the playoffs. They put up great regular season numbers, but the playoffs have a different focus to them.
  23. At the time, almost everyone was saying GM was hopeless and should fail because it was a waste of taxpayer money, and the company would fail anyway because of its incompetence, when in fact they were still a solvent company that sold products people were still willing to buy (as was shown later). Actually, there are a few people who still think this... a guy at work thought buying GM stock at its IPO was pissing away money. Still clinging to his beliefs, sticking to his guns, he wouldn't believe anything positive about GM. So anyway given this prevailing attitude towards, GM, why the f*** would anyone want to take on that kind of catastrophic risk at a time when credit was bone dry? Banks were being super-stingy with mortgages (having to do a complete 180 from a couple of years prior) and closing people's credit card accounts. Ford is not really a good comparison either. That's comparing an existing line of credit for a company viewed as solvent, responsible, and in relatively good financial shape, to a new line of credit for a bankruptcy. How are those the same?
  24. Maryland's about to pass gay marriage... that happened basically overnight, it wasn't even a hot issue or anything. I know a lesbian couple who intends to get married (one of them was in the Army and came out after gays were allowed in the military). That'd be the first time I ever went to anything like that.
