SOXOBAMA's opinion: Payton > Jordan
lostfan replied to SOXOBAMA's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Only read 3 pages and I'm surprised to see so many people down on Walter... I see more props given to him from non Chicago-centric football boards -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) Thank you. Pragmatic, not centrist. Realist even. Not centrist. Ok, that's much more realistic. Nothing centrist about him though.

Newt Gingrich a centrist? Really guys? Practical maybe, but centrist? GTFOH.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 18, 2012 -> 01:49 PM) I was providing context for what I assumed SOXOBAMA was referencing. And you're right that this will likely just be re-tooled into a slightly less awful bill. I'd agree that Obama did not stop this but that the massive tech/internet industry push-back did. Which says something very troubling about our democracy, but I digress... The article states that the State Department will reject the pipeline's currently proposed route at 3PM EST today. They could still work out an alternative down the road. He's required to make a decision prior to the State of the Union address. Killing both SOPA/PIPA and Keystone would be great things, but I doubt that they'll happen 100%. Not necessarily. Voting is only one way to force politicians to do things. It's not like blacks just boycotted the polls to get the Civil Rights Act passed.

A competent OC can do wonders for a QB... imagine had they been using Norv Turner this whole time. -
Derrick Rose is too rich to be wearing s*** he bought off 111th

Boozer has 26 points on 15 attempts, shooting 80%. The word "efficient" looks downright wasteful next to that

I'm not seeing how Alex Smith can ask for a bunch of money or whatever. He's earned the benefit of people no longer saying he sucks, but he's still Alex Smith, its not like the NFL is going to start beating his door down and his situation where he is is better than anywhere else. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) Its funny, most of the time when someone leaves, the hatchet job comes out and the people behind the scenes destroy some credibility of the people who were formerly in charge. This time around it is Ozzie's people who are destroying his credibility more than anyone else. The Sox haven't said anything. Yeah, this strikes me as odd too. I really kind of expected dirt to come up on Ozzie from "anonymous" sources or whoever but it hasn't happened, but Ozzie's camp is talking s*** as usual.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 12:10 PM) Fixed. But he needs congressional authority to do it. Good luck with that. lol, so he is going to put Republicans in a position where they actively oppose him making the government smaller

Should Lillibridge be in our everyday lineup in 2012?

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jan 16, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) There's a problem in American management whereby people are promoted until they exceed their capabilities, then are stuck in a position at which they do not excel, leading to incompetence at every level. I agree with the people who think we should avoid that problem with Lillibridge and keep him in a spot where he excels: the bench. Additionally, I don't think there should be an open competition with Beckham because Beckham is still significantly younger, offers a much greater potential reward and played GG-caliber defense last season. Unless Lilli shows he can play that level of defense on top of his bat (which has probably peaked) it doesn't make sense to bench Beckham. Particularly not in a year that, by all accounts, is meant for development and the long-term good of the club. "Peter Principle" -

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) Well, would they have been better this year with Greg Olsen? No, not really. Marginally, maybe. And I wish everyone would just get over him, Olsen is an average one-dimensional TE that won't be that hard to replace. a. Davis's blocking both in passing and running was better b. Davis and Olsen both had 5 TDs, in half as many yards and 1/3 the number of receptions c. It's pretty easy to replace 540 yards of offense with an actual receiver. Those guys are a dime a dozen. Except on the Bears where they think Roy Williams is going to get 70-80 catches and start him. -

I honestly don't understand Bears fans' fascination with a pass-catching tight end. First off we have ONE GUY who can reliably catch, that's the real problem, not the lack of a TE. All of the TEs people like to name that they wish the Bears had have multiple other receiving options, save the 49ers who have a s*** offense that I wouldn't want to copy. Going out and getting Gronkowski with the horses*** WR corps the Bears have had isn't going to make it an elite offense. However if they were to get, say, Bowe, Manningham (or Floyd in the draft), then have Bennett, a fully-healthy Knox, and Hester being utilized properly in that order, but still with Davis and Spaeth at TE, now we're talking a top 10 offense. A TE adds efficiency to an already-functional offense, but it's not going to make a dysfunctional one work. Misplaced priorities. This is like getting a fresh paint job on your car that you don't need. The f*** are you worried about the paint job for when your transmission is shot to s***? -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 10:06 AM) So, watching E:60. It had Ray Rice's childhood, where his father was mistakenly killed in a drive by when he was one. His father-figure cousin was killed by a drunk driver when he was 11. His mom taught special education to afford to raise 4 kids. He learned football on a courtyard pavement. It has Patrick Willis, who "would kill for Michael Oher's upbrining." His mother abandoned him, two brothers, and a sister to an abusive, drug using father. He stood up to him and got told he would be killed. Didn't have electricity, running water, worked in a cotton field, his brother drowned, he played through terrible injuries. Finally his basketball coach took him and his three siblings in as a foster home. Ends with Arian Foster, who got told he couldn't succeed throughout grade, middle, and high school. Went undrafted. Played on a practice squad for a year. Finally made it. Is one of the most intelligent and well-spoken players in the NFL in my opinion. Then that motherf***er comes on the TV in an FRS commercial. "They said I couldn't be a high school quarterback." He was a home-schooled boy who got to play for a team instead of kids that went to class each day. He was recruited in the area and moved just to be a QB, because that's what he wanted. Not his team, which ran. "They said I couldn't get a D1 scholarship. You're not good enough, you're not strong enough, you're not skilled enough." He was the 3rd QB prospect in the country. "They said I couldn't win a Heisman." No sophomore had ever won it, it wasn't an indictment of him. When he was the favorite, he failed. "They said I couldn't win a National Championship." He was on a favorite contender the year he had to lead the team. "They said I wouldn't be a first round draft pick." Ok, I'll give him that. But the guy who fell in love with him got fired. "They said I couldn't play in the league." He's not a good player. "Appreciate that." I literally felt sick to my stomach. Here's a guy who has had everything handed to him in his football career; was recruited in High School, a top QB recruit, national favorite for Heisman and champion, got overdrafted, etc. when he comes off as a meathead in his interviews. It makes me so mad. Willis had a horrendous life, Rice's two father figures were killed, Foster actually was told he couldn't. And Tim f***ing Tebow. I hope the 49ers play the Broncos next year so Willis can demolish him. Yeah, the idea that Tebow is some poor persecuted underdog who succeeds despite the odds stacked against him is hilarious and borderline insulting. He is a world-class athlete who was a top recruit in high school, played for an elite college program, had one of the most successful college careers EVER, led his team to 2 national championships, won a Heisman, and was a first round draft pick in the NFL. GTFOHWTBS. And I hadn't factored his faith into that either because it's just a distortion by intellectually lazy people, but if we did, that is pretty ridiculous too. We are talking about a guy whose inability to throw a tight spiral gets questioned and they wonder should he actually be playing quarterback in the NFL, and they compare that to Christians who've faced REAL persecution? Oh come on. -
