Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
lostfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Great game all around. I know there were 4 sacks given up, but I would put one or two of those on Cutler, and they weren't the kill-shot type sacks he used to take last year. But on average, the line was giving him plenty of time to make plays, and he had 300+ and his QB rating was well over 100. I'll take those sacks, if that's what I get. Only black marks for me were the penalties on special teams, and Cutler overthrowing the s*** out of Kellen Davis on a play where NOBODY was on the left side and he had a f***ing security escort to the end zone. -
Whatever was truly important about this day got lost years ago.

This is probably gonna sound callous but f*** it, it's true: "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" is a phony, empty phrase. This country was united for maybe like a couple of months after 9/11 but right now? We're divided... and we're falling. Let's not pretend otherwise.

So I'm having a kind of f***ed up morning. My wife wakes me up early this morning talking about she can't find her car, it was either towed or stolen. This is a big f***ing deal, right? Right. So before calling the cops we go trying to find the number to the towing place for our townhome complex, she calls them and they take forever getting back but they eventually say that yes, they have her car, because it was illegally parked (she had moved her car from the normal place last night). They tell her it's going to be $275 and she is all hysterical and crying, cursing them on the phone about how she doesn't have that money and swore she was parked in the right spot. She has me all wound up ready to fight and s***, thinking my HOA (which I already hate) was letting the towing company gouge us for minor or non-existent parking infractions. Had me thinking about lawyers and s***. I tell her I have the money to get her car - what choice do we have? - but that she needs to ask if they have pictures as proof. They say they do. So I take her there to get her car, we pay. I ask to see the pictures and she is all over the yellow curb, like seriously NOT EVEN CLOSE, basically 100% in the yellow. It's not like she didn't know not to park there either, we've lived here 4 years. The curb is yellow because it's on a corner. In other words, a crisis that was completely, indisputably, totally, unequivocally her fault, but she tried to blame everybody for it but herself, and I'm the one who's accountable for it. Ugh! So f***ing pissed right now!

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) It's pretty obvious you're the kind of guy who doesn't think for yourself. You'll agree with anyone who shares your mindset no matter how stupid they sound because you don't have the ability to see the big picture. You're the epitome of the common American these days: "I'm an AMERICAN and my opinion matters just as much as everyone else's... even if I have NO insight BEHIND my opinion. Why do I even HAVE the opinion I do? Well... I don't know! But I'll stay in firm belief of it because it's my right!" I don't hover over all of your posts and replies to greg775, but you do this type of thing frequently and you really need to knock it off. I'm sure greg knows a lot of people on the board disagree with him, but you essentially calling him stupid = personal attack. If you can't raise your level of writing to make your point without lowering yourself to that, you're probably better off leaving it alone.

QB Matt Schaub RB Chris Johnson RB Matt Forte RB/WR Jeremy Maclin WR Andre Johnson WR Dez Bryant TE Jason Witten D/ST Steelers K Nate Kaeding Bench: Anquan Boldin Kellen Winslow Marshawn Lynch Jay Cutler Reggie Bush Roy Williams Lions D/ST Last year I did a poor job of mixing up my bye weeks and wasn't really paying attention to what I was doing. I think it was week 8 I got hit hard. I lost by like 100 points that week. This is the first year I've ever, ever, EVER even looked at the Lions D on the board without laughing, but their D should get a lot of sacks and turnovers and plus it's just my bench D, the Steelers, Packers, Ravens, or Bears are the ones you want to be starting with if you can. I love how I got Chris Johnson and AJ on the same team somehow. They underproject the s*** out of Cutler and nobody wants him anyway. Roy Williams is a flyer, if he does something he looks like a starter, if not then I'll probably never use him anyway.

I do think people really over-react on Ozzie about the relievers sometimes.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) The author of this piece is a recently retired Republican staff member who spent 28 years on the Hill working for budget and defense committee members. So, lifelong Republican. It'd fill up 6 pages if I tried to excerpt everything. It appears to be a legitimate, cathartic rant about the people who are taking over the party he worked for. Yes.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 01:25 AM) Wow. I love when people lose it and freak out on here. You are wrong BTW. We Ozzie lovers also think he's made mistakes. This Ozzie lover will not be surprised nor will I cry or be sad when he gets the boot. I also will wish our new manager well. But I also recognize why he is playing the high paid guys and why he's batting them so high. Some people act like we are crazy. Well I tell u to get used to seeing Adam batting fourth next year no matter who our skipper is. And Rios fifth. I don't read every post but while I've seen you make posts to the effect that Ozzie probably does deserve to be fired, I've never, not once seen you criticize any of Ozzie's decisions that he's made... ever. So I can hardly fault anyone for thinking the things they do.

It wasn't talent or ability that got Brandon Meriweather cut. Solid move there. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) It was in his whole Holly.wood thing. Supposedly he was hanging around Toni Braxton, or worse if Joe is trying to imply something, and that is part of the evidence that Kenny has forgotten where he came from, whatever that means. Hey there admin stop trying to dodge the language filter!

$15 million guaranteed for Forte is a pretty fair offer, look around the NFL and see what other running backs are getting. I mean that's more than Jamaal Charles, I think. I saw some people criticizing the Bears for "lowballing" him but that's just silly bulls***. Forte is a very good, versatile, borderline great back, but he's not a special runner. He's not Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson, Jamal Charles, DeAngelo Williams, or even Frank Gore or Maurice Jones-Drew... No defensive coordinators sit up at night worrying about how they're going to stop him. He hasn't been near a Pro Bowl, but to be fair he hasn't gotten much in the way of run blocking until recently. He should he paid well, but you don't throw truckloads of cash at guys just because they want it. -
Is this that "hot streak" we've been sitting on our hands for for months?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) If I were in that situation, I'd have double-checked my kid's room that has rain getting in it to look out for her. She's a kid, kid's are stupid. She is 14 though. She's old enough to know that when the roof leaked b/c of rain, a "hurricane" will do much worse.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:08 PM) His second, actually. Yeah I just remembered the one vs. KC a couple weeks ago after I posted that. I tried to hurry up and delete that post, lol

So I'm the world's biggest asshole right now I guess. I have a leaky roof, a problem I was aware of before Irene showed up. Incidentally, I have an appointment I set up for next week, done before I knew the hurricane was actually coming. Because of where the damaged shingles are, when it rains hard, water comes into my stepdaughter's room and damages the ceiling. The last time it rained a couple weeks ago, it got a bunch of her clothes wet and her TV got wet, but it worked again when it dried (lucky). Fast forward to today and now that Irene has come and gone, of course there was a lot of water that leaked into the room and damaged the ceiling in her room some more (expected, and also something I was going to get fixed). Here's the kicker though: my wife let her go stay over at her friend's house down the street for the whole weekend, and my stepdaughter KNEW Irene was coming but didn't bother moving her TV and put all her clothes back in the SAME SPOT. So she comes home and sees her room and starts flipping out and having a temper tantrum. My wife asks "why didn't you move it?" and she says "I'm sorry, I didn't do it." I say "what are you apologizing for? It's your problem." My wife gives me the side eye and says "it's not that this is anyone's fault or problem, this is everyone's problem." Uhhh no. Really it's not. I ask her why she's giving me "that look" and she says "it was your reaction." I say "what did you want me to do, go start jumping up and down and start screaming "OH s***" a bunch of time while sobbing hysterically? We already got the guy coming to fix it." If that TV is dead and she thinks she's getting another one, she's got a rude surprise! Sorry! Those are the consequences of her actions and the priorities she set.

lol I found this post on a Twins board: Fire Gardy, get rid of Jill Mauer and Morneau, and keep cuddy, Thome, and Kubel, the only 3 with Balls on the team. THank you, and Goodnight.

I'm not surprised, but that doesn't mean it's not a big deal. It was well within the realm of "s*** that could happen" but still, it's Steve f***ing Jobs.

Manning said something to the effect that he wasn't going to do that. -
Oh and I didn't really post that article for accuracy's sake, I figured if we were allowed to point to "research" to back up bulls*** assertions like in that patriotism thread then this is fair game too, I just find it amusing.
-
I took an iq test when I was a kid. It was like 134. I have no idea if that's what my iq still is or how accurate it was.

Since liberals' patriotism was allowed to be a valid question and discussed like it actually meant something, you're going to enjoy the hell out of this article: Why Liberals Are Smarter Than Conservatives
