QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) My personal favorite... @VictoriaRamon The west coast is thinking, "Shut the f*** up you big babies!", right now. This is how I as a Chicago resident feel about these whiny East Coast b****es when it snows 2 inches.

I was at work and getting ready to have a quick meeting, and right as I stood up the shaking started. It felt odd and I thought I was just woozy, then all of a sudden it started shaking hard and stuff started falling off shelves and whatnot (a couple girls screamed). The people from California got under their desks right away and everybody else flipped out. It was kinda funny.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:10 AM) I missed the game, outside of this did he at least look good? What else was happening in the game. I only watched f***ing scores on my phone. On that particular play, he made a clutch catch. He just needs to get out of bounds. I didn't see it but my friend said he saw Cutler's lips say "GET OUT OF BOUNDS" -
So if the regime falls (I guess it will sooner rather than later)... then what? The last time we asked that question after a round or three of triumphant chest-beating it became clear nobody had a clue what the f*** to do and the s*** hit the fan and kept flying. Not really keen on having that happen again.

Oh what was Sanzenbacher doing not stepping out of bounds? There were like 18 seconds left, what did he think he was trying to do? It probably cost the offense a play. -

No issues with how the first team O-line played. They mostly gave Cutler time to throw and he did, and he was pretty accurate. The one sack was his fault, he moved out of the pocket and didn't bother trying to get rid of it. Run blocking left something to be desired, but you won't get perfection every game. Not worried about the D. Most of the points scored by the Giants were against the second unit and the blocked punt was too, I think (a blatantly blown gap assignment, it looked like). Roy Williams dropped one pass on 3rd down by pretty much being a p****, and the second one went thru his arms but it had a higher degree of difficulty and he was being obviously held, but I guess they don't make those calls in the preseason. Peppers dominated, they didn't call a hold and a clip against him. Also Hester can't drop those passes in the end zone, I don't care if he has a guy on his back. -
This season is a statement on organizational resiliency

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 07:27 PM) Also I really don't see how you can blame the organization for believing that career .240-.285 hitters will, at some point, hit ANYWHERE near their career norms. I agree with this. In the beginning of summer people would at least TRY to pretend to avoid blaming management for believing that one of the most consistent power hitters in baseball over the past decade would continue to be consistent, or failing to see a sudden, historic collapse. But after a while people started getting lazy and just throwing it in there when ranting about how bad of a GM KW is. -

This is a big deal... 600 had become the new 500 for a while because of all the cheaters, but Thome's not one of them.

The only way to build arm strength and endurance for a whole season is to pitch... not so much were you want to risk getting hurt, but you have to build up to it. That's a problem Peavy faces too, where he has trouble making it through a game sometimes. Humber's never thrown for more than ~140 innings when you count the majors and minors (definitely not the majors, he was never good enough until this year). So you kind of want to be careful with him for now, not let him get too worn down, but you can't baby him either, he has to pitch or he's never going to build that endurance. If he makes it to about 170 innings this year, he should be good for probably all of next season. The last young guy on the Sox to make that leap that I can think of off the top of my head was Danks, and I thought I remembered a rough patch for him in about August but of course he ended up being nails in game 163. (not a professional opinion or anything, just me gleaning what I think I know)

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) I'd give it about 20 games before people would be wishing Ozzie was back if LaRussa managed the White Sox. Every game would be 3 hours plus. You would need about 4 loogys, and a real bad player, DeWayne Wise would probably be available, that LaRussa would absolutely adore and play way too much. Wait, how is the bolded any different from Ozzie

Seriously though, Enderle getting sacked 5 times did not mean a god damn thing. I don't know why people keep talking about "9 sacks." The guys blocking for Enderle, half of them are going to be selling insurance or working on a construction crew somewhere once the season starts. Seeing Hanie running around because of protection breakdowns from the first string OL is a reason to worry, but nothing that happened in the second half really means anything. At all. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 08:53 AM) The weakest links were louis, Williams and garza at center. The f***ing rook looked better. Spencer lOoked good and he should move in so garza can be a guard. Kudos to Wisconsin, ridiculous line prospects. Explain how Williams looked like a weak link, exactly... he was probably the most consistent out there. He's really good at run blocking. I think a lot of people are really stuck on the past when it comes to Williams... he wasn't even bad at LG last year but people rip him nonstop. The first-team OL had a bad first couple of series but eventually they got it together, for the most part. This is why I hate preseason... people have meltdowns, almost on cue, about glorified practice. Not a game, not a game. Not a game. We talkin' about practice. If it's the 3rd game of the preaseason and they still look a hot ass mess, or if they get their s*** pushed in against ATL (who has a weak secondary) then I will start having a hissy-fit. Also people keep talking about "9 sacks." Half of those sacks came in the 2nd half against other third stringers who probably won't even play, so I don't give a s***. Either way, I refuse to start flipping out about the first game of the preseason. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) That's what practices are for. Have him practice with the 1st team and if he isn't entirely ready, play games with the 2nd team until he's comfortable. He's got a month. Martz's playbook is a motherf***er, though. I'm just saying. lol. And he's probably going to need to pay extra attention to Green Bay's extremely confusing schemes. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 11:40 PM) I actually agree with you here. Which is why you put Spencer at C and move Garza to RG and let them go. I actually think this line will out-perform everyone's expectations as long as they stay healthy and Martz isn't consistently calling 7 step drops. I'm a big fan of Webb, though he looked bad tonight. Williams and Carimi both looked good. Garza was ok, didn't botch any snaps, which is good. And Louis only had like 3 good plays. Spencer has to learn the playbook first... that's expecting a bit much of him. -

I don't wanna sound like I'm a homer or that I actually agree with Angelo's refusal to bring in any more veteran lineman or his overall bulls*** approach to building OL, but the team didn't get to have any OTAs during the lockout, and 4 out of 5 guys are playing in a new position. It's going to take time for them to start playing cohesively. Last year's group played noticeably better towards the end of the year but before that it was a mess with the musical chairs and s*** they had going on. That was the first real taste of anything this unit had. -
I thought Wieters was going to be hitting like Joe Mauer. He's pretty average.

This video is long but he goes into pretty much every question mark (btw Your Boy Roy is awesome, and very thorough and objective). Cliff's notes version for people that can't/are too lazy to watch but still want to know what's in the video: -Defense looks elite, Super Bowl-caliber, as good as or perhaps better than last year -So far so good on Okoye. The DL looks like it has a lot of depth, and the rotations should be really good. Gholston and Harrison don't appear to be doing much. -WR corps has a lot of variety and looks impressive compared to last year. Roy Williams is the most consistent so far. Sanzenbacher looks really good out there, catching everything thrown his way (he's gotten longer looks than Fantuz because he's a UDFA they had to evaluate and not necessarily because he's outplaying Fantuz) -OL is actually looking better: Webb looks really solid and improved over last year, Garza looks decent at C, Louis looks mean and nasty, Carimi is coming along nicely at RT for a rookie. Hard to judge negatives on Webb and Carimi when they are getting skull-f***ed by Peppers in practice (because he does this to everyone), but they won't face a better DL all year either. Chris Williams is the weakest link but has improved since camp started. Spencer is one of the best five and a more natural C than Garza, but probably won't start unless Williams fails since he doesn't know the offense. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) I agree with Stevotown, I basically forgot that Cutler got injured, because injuries are not something that I really dwell on. Bottom line is Cutler got a real X receiver this year and well see what happens. Knox size was just to much of a detriment for the position that he played. Im pretty sure there is a silly stat about how many of Cutler's picks were thrown to Knox. Just not physical enough. 11 interceptions intended for Knox, most in the NFL. Probably more than half of those were Knox's fault for various reasons - running the wrong route, quitting on his route, alligator-arming/tipping, not coming back/fighting for the ball, etc. s*** that you'd expect a starting receiver in the NFL to hardly ever do. -
Sunday Ticket costs WAY too much when all I really want to do is watch the Bears, and when the Bears are good I can get like 7 or 8 games broadcast here per year anyway cuz they either are the featured game often or they're in prime time. Paying like an extra $50 a month though? And needing to have a specific provider for it? No thanks.

Alpha's really not that kind of person, he just gets really worked up about politics.

I got a HTC Sensation after using the Motorola Cliq for a year and a half and it feels like upgrading from a laptop from jotting down notes on random sheets of paper. Man what a piece of s*** phone I had. What was I thinking? Since my G1 (the original Android phone) broke I've basically missed out on cutting-edge phones for a year and a half, just because I wanted a slide-out keyboard. Ugh.
