  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) You have to take frustration out of the equation though. Something that has always driven me crazy about Hawk is how short his patience is for guys like Jose Contreras and Edwin that walk people. Yes Hawk, watching a pitcher walk people is frustrating, but so is watching Buehrle give up 15 hits. Yes, Edwin is going to have some frustrating starts where he throws 115 pitches in 5 innings, but the numbers are the numbers. He's on pace for 200 innings of 4.00 ERA ball. That's not worth what it has been in recent years, but it's still worth a lot. Especially come the postseason, when stuff like Edwin's tends to play very well... ^^ There's "the dreaded leadoff walk" he always talks about but I don't like "the dreaded leadoff hit" very much, either.
  2. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) I just want to say, Google Earth is the coolest thing ever. I used it a long time ago, but now, with the endless supply of pictures from anywhere in the world, it's even more incredible On a similar note, why doesn't this board have a dedicated travel thread? I was checking out places like Tehran and Pyongyang. They look nothing at all like you probably think they look like. At least not for me. I don't know what kind of picture I had about Moscow in my head, but that city is really, really advanced, as much as NYC, Paris, or any Western city, or even Tokyo for that matter. I love to travel, maybe you should start a thread, that's a decent idea.
  3. If I was to make a list of 5 reasons I want Greg Walker fired, "So 1/3 of Soxtalk's threads are not about Greg Walker" would probably be #3. I know that's not a very good reason... don't judge me
  4. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) Agreed that the Sidebar is a terrible and useless modification. But the change I have hated the most in the last year or so has been doing away with the dialog box on your profile page that used to let you put a little statement or quote or bit of information about yourself. It's more than useless, it effectively disables Facebook chat unless you want to manually type in the URL for popout chat or type with the 10 people they selected for you to chat with without your input. And the thing you mentioned, I don't even know why they got rid of that. They do things just to do them sometimes. They always just kind of hand-waved over it like "where else are you going to go?" ummm... Google Chrome... who, by the way, has competent programmers.
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 10:59 AM) Yes, like how Obama waited until he lost his democratic SUPERmajorities in the house AND senate...when he COULD HAVE DONE THINGS but was so preoccupied with his barely-anything-resembling-Obamacare that he didn't? Stop giving Obama excuses if you aren't going to afford Bush the same exact excuses. Bush was ONE guy. He lost his majority house/senate half way into office, and still got things passed despite a supermajority democratic house/senate. So if anything, the democratic house/senate passed everything you're b****ing about now...yet you blame Bush, and only Bush. That makes no sense. And while he had those supermajorities, fierce opposition wouldn't have mattered. His own party sold him out during the healthcare debate, when they didn't have too...because they're bought and paid for by the same corporations that own the republicans, too. These aren't excuses, they are facts. I'm not pinning anything on Bush except the deficit (you must've skipped over the part where I specifically said "I'm not pinning the 2008 recession on him"). It took years of Bush's policies (btw, much of the damage was already done by 2006 and the ball was rolling ahead at full speed) when he'd lost his majorities 3/4 of the way, not halfway through office). The Democratic Party is a bunch of p*****s who are too afraid to defend themselves when they're right which makes the supermajority useless. No argument there. Obama probably shouldn't have prioritized HCR (although he probably would've never had another opportunity) or let an incompetent Congress handle it either. Also no argument there.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) Worth pointing out...very few of those things on your list would have a positive impact on the economy. I'd contend that in 10 years or so the PPACA will be a strong positive, but not any time in the near future. Deficit ≠ economy, no argument there.
  7. Facebook Sidebar is GARBAGE. Easily the worst change they've ever made.... this and similar things they do all the time are why Google+ has 10 million users already. Facebook's going to run off its user base and give Google a bunch of free momentum.
  8. Steve, you kinda look like Brian Anderson.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) Yeah Bin Laden was a pretty minor problem lol. Not even remotely the same thing. come on now. His administration briefed on that pretty thoroughly but the Bush administration was more concerned with pointless and expensive missile defense shields that would've been completely useless on 9-11. THEN it became a priority. I don't really think you can compare the 2001 recession to the 2008 mega-recession in depth and scope, especially when you look at them on a graph together, but that's just me. I'm not pinning the 2008 recession on him either but the deficit is not Obama's fault. That's ludicrous, and easily traceable back to Bush and his policies without even much effort. It was there as soon as Obama took office. With the exception of the stimulus anything Obama's tried to do to reverse it in any kind of meaningful, structural way (ending Bush tax cuts, defense cuts of any kind, healthcare reform that actually does something to lower costs) is met with fierce, vigorous opposition.
  10. Driver A drives a car for several hundred miles, he's driving it really fast and he really needs to pull over and get gas, and has numerous opportunities to do so but he feels like gas costs too much, or he doesn't want to be bothered, or he just doesn't have to do it. At one point he even suggests something that vaguely sounds like "gas is just weighing the car down, so if we don't fill it up, we're actually using less gas." Eventually, Driver B takes over as the car is dangerously close to running out of gas. Driver B goes in the trunk and pulls out a canister of gas, putting just enough in the tank for the car to keep moving for a while, but it still really needs gas. However, by now, they're in a different state and the gas is more expensive and of lower quality. Driver B insists on filling up the tank, but Driver A's friends are all indignant by now and yell at him that he can't, that he has to take responsibility for his actions, and if the car has to run out of gas so be it, and in any case it's Driver B's fault for that happening anyway.
  11. f*** Bill Clinton for leaving a surplus and a bunch of relatively minor problems for Bush to handle
  12. That sounds more like a wish list than any actual plans. I mean of course he wants to kill the POTUS, what enemy of America doesn't? But to actually try and DO it, yeah you will get f***ing owned really bad.
  13. I hate Delta Dental sooooo much. I literally have not had a single positive experience with them in a year and a half. I'm convinced that their actual business model is to hire only employees whose IQ is not above room temperature (in an air conditioned office) so that the customers eventually get exasperated and give up trying to reason with them and pay out of pocket to avoid the hassle.
  14. The Constitution means a lot of things to a lot of different people and so did it in 1787... and I wish people would read it before they talked about it. It says specific things certain pieces of the government do, certain things it explicitly can't do, and implies a WHOLE LOT of other s***. It was done that way on purpose.
  15. Those "pledges" are so dumb and myopic. They are pretty fundamentally un-democratic, too.
  16. Thinking I'm agreeing with FlySox here.
  17. SLG is nice to have, but on a leadoff hitter if he can stay at or near .400 I think I'll be ok with that most of the time. If he has that and an average OBP of .350 that means his OPS is .750, which is respectable. If your leadoff hitter's OPS is higher than .800 and he still steals a lot of bases he's probably something like an All-Star.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 08:20 AM) Anonymous hacked into another FBI contractor: http://thenextweb.com/industry/2011/07/08/...t=Google+Reader As well as 90,000 more emails from the US military http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/90000...urce=feedburner Balta, I'm on to you! These hackers are starting to bore me.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) Speaking of things Jerry would be proud of... Not this thread. He Gawn. Yeah... good call. I've been waffling on that for about a half hour now.
  20. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:26 AM) 6.0 IP / 3 HITS / 1 RUN / 4 K / 1 BB 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 5K, 2 BB... ...not far off.
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 10:09 PM) Ozzie's never thrown a player under the bus? Ha! I recall the team making a big joke about "Ozzie's bus" in 2006 or so.
  22. You can't tell people how they're supposed to feel. That makes no sense.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) this interface frightens and confuses me I hope they add the ability to "wall" someone.
  24. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 07:37 PM) I'm not allowed to be disappointed if my son is gay? Would you not be disappointed? I think most red blooded men would be. Doesn't mean we'd show it, but are there people out there who actually want a gay child? Obviously I don't know you in real life or even that well from this board but I don't think you'd feel that way. Yeah you might be disappointed or taken aback or any other feelings you might have, and that's pretty common, but considering by then you'd have already known your son all these years you'd probably get over it eventually.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) Added Awesome. Thanks!
