This thread's run its course. Nothing really productive left in it but it won't die a natural death.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) I'm cool with the loyalty. I mean, I don't think firing a GM and a manager creates a good work environment, ya know? But if the White Sox don't make the playoffs this year, Ozzie is fired. This I believe. Neither does f***ing up. *shrug*

Illinois is shady like that, my dad was b****ing about how they won't reassess him down even though his house is worth way less than that. Here in Maryland, Anne Arundel County reassessed us for like 50k less than what I paid for it... that was kind of deflating, and the lower property tax was kind of a small comfort. A pointless comfort actually, I think they just raised the taxes to keep their revenue at the same levels... meh, it didn't actually affect me, it only really sucks when looking at it on paper.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) I'm in (re: google+). If you want an invite pm me your email address and name. Initial thoughts: Love the mobile app. It's gorgeous and easy to navigate. The website looks nice but my first reaction was that it might be a tad too complicated right off the bat. It was pretty easy for me to figure things out rather quickly but I'm a quick learner. I could imagine some dimwits having issues figuring things out like how to create a new circle of people. I'd also think it would be smarter to have as few pages as necessary to convey all of your features. Most people are used to facebook and do almost everything on their initial main screen. Overall a B+ on my first hour or so fiddling with it. Definitely has potential with the excellent integration of mobile OS. EDIT: You can even view your facebook stream within google+ [email protected] please (ummm not that I think you're not smart enough to figure it out, but just to cover all bases, that's my actual name, the one you know)

Of active players, the only one who would even come close is Ichiro if you counted all his hits from Japan.

Over the years as Ozzie's been the manager of the Sox I've come to realize he just doesn't give a s*** about numbers, let alone actually bother to look at them. Especially apparent when he's PHing guys. If a RHP comes in to relieve, and the guy coming to bat is hitting like .320 off righties, and significantly better than he hits off lefties with a healthy sample size (as in, for the entire year, and with career numbers backing it up), Ozzie will bring in a lefty to hit just because he's lefty even though that guy is hitting like .265 with limited power against righties. It's just not how he does things, and he laughs or rolls his eyes at us when we complain. "I make the f***ing lineups" or "I know more baseball than you do, STFU." And even if we had the old version of Juan Pierre or a guy who was nearly automatic at stealing bases, and Beckham was hitting like Derek Jeter in his prime, he'd have Beckham sac bunt, just because... I don't know. For f***'s sake at least a hit and run, or Pierre stealing 2nd and THEN a sac bunt... anything except simultaneously negate Pierre's primary value to the offense and take the bat out of one of your best hitters. That's completely asinine... but that's just what Ozzie does and will do as long as he's the manager. Ozzie does things either just to do them, or because he believes that's how baseball is supposed to be played no matter what.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 05:05 PM) I'll never understand the hate for Jeter. And Joe, you're really complaining that the man with 5 rings from New York is getting more attention than someone who's never won a World Series and hit 600 home runs in the steroid era? 600 home runs is 600 home runs. Although it's not what it used to be, sadly.

The Sox finally manage to win a f***ing game against the Twins. Let's bust out the slow clap.
-
That was a f***ing long inning.
-
Holy s***, Adam Dunn and Alex Rios had extra-base hits in the SAME INNING! Maybe that Harold Camping dude was right.

Texas Death Penalty Case (Obama requests stay)
lostfan replied to Soxbadger's topic in The Filibuster
I get the purpose of the treaty and everything, but what purpose would it serve really? What would be the point? It's like "oh s***, damn I could've used that legal procedure X years ago when the window was open and I really wish I did, let me go ahead and see what I can get now" how is that? It doesn't make sense to me. I know it's more than just a technicality, but still. Go all the way back to start over? For what? -
I read about Hamilton describing how he could hear the 5 year old screaming for his dad after he fell... that makes me want to cry, seriously. I can't take that kind of thing, anything having to do with kids, just...

Is there any way to dump Dunn and get Pujols?
lostfan replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) Any team that pays a guy over 30 that kind of money is insane. Oh wait, the White Sox showed similar insanity in giving Dunn all that money. Basically the Yankees or Bosox will be paying Pujols for the next 3 years in trying to win 3 world titles in a row. Whomever signs him for 5-6 years could be getting little out of him the final year or two. The Yankees have Teixeira and Rodriguez's massive contracts already. -
She's alive. She's like 20 now but basically paralyzed and she can't speak, she can hear you but to talk to you she does this long, elaborate series of spelling out words by blinking. edit: her real name is Toya Currie. They called her Girl X because at the time she was a minor, I think she was 7 or 8.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) Define radical. I know a lot of my beliefs are pretty radical to most (i.e., abolitionist vegan). I can't, actually.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) I'm actually enjoying reading what others think of me. lol. am I that far off? as US lefties go you're pretty left but not really radical, but further than you is radical territory

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) I really don't think he's that bad. Do you think BigSqwert would actually propose a large nationalization of companies in the US? I think he just favors heavy regulation. I wouldn't use the word "bad" cuz I don't make judgments of people's political views, just as I understand them. He's critical of capitalism as an economic system and said he'd want to try something else (though he would be able to explain that a lot better, if he's reading this)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_white_woman_syndrome Seriously the American public has a bizarre fascination with attractive white women. I bring this up often, but Girl X's incident happened around the same time as Jonbenet Ramsey, everybody knows who Ramsey is but hardly anybody remembers Girl X. One of them got weeks, months, years of speculation about the case, the other got mentioned on the 10 o'clock news a couple times.

Further left than BigSqwert and you're also in anarchist territory. Y2HH has the same distrust of corporate money and special interests that the left does.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) i was at one company who would pay you, but you had to sign over your jury check to them in order to get paid. That seems kinda draconian but I don't think it is... considering you probably make significantly more in one day than you ever would on a jury.

My job pays me... I just have to input hours under a different code for "Jury Duty" is all.

Not a big fan of Chavez but I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I won't throw a schadenfreude party or root for his tumors or anything like that.

I thought you had coined a new phrase for a minute there... I mentally gave you props. Now I am mentally taking it back.

Not getting a warm and fuzzy from this idea now.
