QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) Not really. You could set up an ftp server (or secure ftp server) and handle this, then simply port map (NAT) the port 21 to your workstations IP address on your router. That's kind of the old way of doing it, though, you could always just use Dropbox, it's free for like 2 or 3 gigs of usage, and you can share files publicly (for people that do not have dropbox) or privately for people that do...and if you use this method, you don't have to configure anything on the router. If you want to try out dropbox, let me know and I'll invite you -- that way I get an extra 250 megs or something for my free account. Do you have my e-mail address? I'm competent at this kind of thing but still need a mild walkthrough. I have about 800 megs of stuff to share (until I get a 2 GB hard drive for my NAS, anyway) so I imagine I'll be paying some kind of monthly fee. Then I'd just give people a login so they could access my s***, and copy stuff as they please? That's kind of what I had in mind.

How do I set up a system where I can let people remotely connect to my computer (or my NAS) and download files out of it? Is this a really complicated process?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 06:57 PM) Both of them are awesome. I've always had a problem quoting comedians in certain conversations, mostly because they're 'comedians' and you don't know if they're saying something because they mean it or if it's just part of the act, but whether they mean it or not means nothing to me. The things they say can have value/meaning, and dismissing it simply because they're a comedian is silly. George Carlin, in specific, had some very funny talking points but also said some things that I find very truthful... That was the brilliance of Carlin... he'd outline some completely absurd scenario and then he'd drop the hammer on you like "oh... I'm actually not really joking."

Florida can't do s*** right. Can't count votes, can't convict an obvious murderer, can't win a NBA championship with a loaded team, what are they good for?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) That wasn't for you specifically. it was a general comment, which is why I didn't quote anyone. It was a shot at John Stewart, yes? George Carlin is f***ing awesome, though.

Breitbart is a fabricator, when he can't find evidence for something that suits him he makes it up and cuts out the relevant parts of videos to make it look the way he wants (ask Shirley Sherrod for starters). I'm surprised you'd accept his word so readily at face value... Breitbart says that nobody could find actual evidence of Tea Partiers being racist so it's true. That depends, are we talking about people in positions of influence or are we lowering the standard to include individual commenters on message boards the way you just did? Cuz if it's the latter... hoooooly s***. Seriously you don't have to look that far.

Any half-assed concept can use empty patriotism as its justification and then you can just chase off anyone who isn't "patriotic." Listening to the right, I don't even want to be "patriotic" any more and it doesn't bother me to be labeled as "unpatriotic" since they get to define what it's supposed to mean. It's just an empty word, and the charge doesn't even really have to be true or accurate. Like "socialist." Yay, Newspeak.
-
Along with most people, I've always held that the GOP is the party of patriotism. And I've always held that this is an empty bulls*** fallacy that is pretty insulting to a lot of people, myself included

Some completely random ass woman can tell a blatant lie that everyone assumes is credible at face value and get the head of the f***ing IMF (and possible future president of another country) arrested and detained, and when it's all exposed as bulls*** there's no consequences for her? For f***'s sake. I'm all about punishing these kinds of people... false rape accusations can ruin someone's life.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 07:08 PM) That's not actually how the WAR stat works, but I'll take this version of JP any day of the week if he's going to keep this up. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 07:20 PM) dude ask me this when I'm sober. Right now my focus is entierly on maintaining correct splling and I'm not doign that great of a job. Damn... I degenerated that far in 12 minutes. That was the beginning, I'd actually gotten significantly worse and had a neat chronicling of my steady degeneration into incoherence on Facebook.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 08:32 PM) Isn't being drunk grand? What are you drinking by the way? I had this cheapass thing of Aftershock (I was broke last week), and I was at home by myself. Got a little carried away and had the whole thing.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 05:37 PM) He continues to trend upward every season (I'm calling a certain White Sox 2B out here). I hope the Pirates get really good again so we get to see more of this elite talent without having to be an Extra Innings subscriber. Speaking of young franchise players who are or are not trending upwards in that game, I didn't realize Ryan Zimmerman was having such a crappy season.

As I go to more baseball games this year (yesterday, Pirates at Nats) and watch others on TV I'm struck by the number of mediocre hitters when they show stats across the screen. Sure you'll occasionally see a guy hitting .297 or .313 but that seems to be rare... lineups are full of guys hitting .228 and s***. Is it just me?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) PK just plays the wrong position. Simple as that. But he can still get in. Biggest snub by far was Andrew McCutchen. There's absolutely no excuse for his omission. I got to see him play yesterday in Washington... that guy's pretty awesome.

Cuck the mothercucking Fubs

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 07:17 PM) High leverage situations should matter to that stat though, right? dude ask me this when I'm sober. Right now my focus is entierly on maintaining correct splling and I'm not doign that great of a job.

Sox > Cubs. Again.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 07:02 PM) I know he's getting some mild props, but this man has won us the last 3 games in a row!! (Along with the pitching staff). Juan baby!!! Show him the love, people. White Sox are back to .500. Juan's WAR has to be improving with 3 straight game winning ribbies!!! That's not actually how the WAR stat works, but I'll take this version of JP any day of the week if he's going to keep this up.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 12:16 AM) And then it came out half white... [kidding!] I dunno. You might be onto something

Let's finish these sorry motherf***rs off, boys

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 06:11 PM) Luke Hochaver was the #1 pick and he sucks. Like I said, if you believe in pitcher peripherals, which I obviously do, then you can see Humber is not a true sub-.3.00 ERA, sub-1.00 WHIP caliber of pitcher. And the eye test works as well. It's not all about stats. But Humber is gettin' it done, be it luck or whatever. That's all that matters. For now, anyway. I mean if that's all we get out of him I'll take it. Cuz look at our 2005 bullpen...

But yeah, you KNEW that Adam f***ing Dunn was going to have worse stats than Brian Anderson. LOL
-
Ok, seriously... if Adam Dunn's OPS was at .900 right now (AKA basically the exact same stats he's had almost every year since he's been in the majors) would anyone be saying "I told you so?" Whoever told you they KNEW he was going to be hitting .171 with 7 home runs is just lying. (Before anyone responds to that last statement and points to this thread - check and see what the OP actually said beforehand.)

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) I was watching the Milwaukee broadcast of their game last night and they were talking about Mauer's contract. His hr/ab ratio is 235/1 in Target field, while it was 35/1 in the Metrodome. He's never driven in 100 runs, he's never scored 100 runs, and he's only hit more than 13 home runs in a season once, and he obviously doesn't steal bases. Obviously some of that is because he is a catcher and therefore misses the obligatory 20 games a year or so, but he has also suffered from injuries due to his insistence on being a catcher. And now they want him to entertain the notion of catching less and playing more 1b and DH and he wants no part of it. They are fuct. Damn, he even had a year with a OPS over 1.000 and he STILL didn't drive in 100 runs? Talk about a fluke.

VZ and T looked almost identical at the time I bought VZ. I got it for about $30 a share in 2009, now it's worth $37.80 - it was 40 shares at the time, and my unrealized gain on it is $283.98... not sure what the exact percentage is on that without writing it out, but that's pretty decent. If I'm buying right now, I'd probably get T (thinking of getting in before the T-Mobile acquisition, if it gets approved). T's stock hasn't really gone up very much in the same time period but if we are talking years or decades, that's pretty irrelevant. It's not like either company is going anywhere.
