QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 28, 2011 -> 12:54 AM) How about 'Where is this level of fact check from a supposedly neutral mainstream media outlet on Obama?' if there ever is one, it is after the fact when it is too late to matter. Hell if they just covered Biden with half as much zeal, he would come across dumber than the public seems to remember Dan Quayle, however you spell that. But that might look bad to have THAT on the ticket. I really thought Biden's tendency to say really stupid s*** was common knowledge... he'd been in the Senate for what, like 30 years by then? At the time the articles I read when Obama picked him had whole sections about the fact that Biden was a human gaffe machine. Like the one about him saying you couldn't go into a Dunkin' Donuts without having a slight Indian accent

QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 08:58 PM) This. If anyone like BigSqwert or Russ wants to write off my views as "Tea Party bumper slogans", I don't really care. It's a cheap, weak argument, and me or AD could just as easily write off our opponents' arguments as "liberal hippie bumper slogans". But that would just be dumb. So you can ignore me, but that doesn't change what I said. Obama has bowed before multiple foreign leaders, and that's below the office of President. I know you treat foreign leaders with respect, but bowing shows subservience. JFK realized this when he met the Pope. He did not kiss the Pope's ring because he knew he wasn't meeting the man as a Catholic, but as President of the United States and thus the show of subservience would have been inappropriate. Obama hasn't realized this. Also, personally, I'd say the Saudi king is third world, fundamentalist despot. Regardless, friend or foe, POTUS doesn't bow to him. Just off the top of my head: there's the ICE memo. The DREAM Act was rejected by Congress, so Obama has set out to find other ways. That is unlawful. Then there's the War Powers Act. After crucifying Bush for years on Iraq, Obama flat out ignores the same act to which he tried to hold GWB accountable. And then he comes up with excuses as to why he doesn't have to answer to that act. Oh, and then there was his promise a few weeks ago that gun control was being worked on "under the table". This from Mr. Transparency, mind you. I'd figure he was talking about an attempt to ratify the UN Small Arms Treaty. Gun control from the UN, bypassing Congress and violating our national sovereignty. He should be warned that such an act would be treason, and no conservative I've ever met is going to simply give up their guns and go easily into the night. The man has shown repeatedly that he will forgo Congress if he thinks he can get away with it. You guys write off the insults to a good portion of the American population, but how would you have reacted if Bush had said that some people won't ever vote for him because they are "dirty hippies who cling to their bongs and government assistance"? That wouldn't have gone over well. He can insult my culture and my politics and my belief in American exceptionalism all he wants, but it's not winning me over. And since I doubt many of you are in the military, I assure you, the regular troops are none too pleased by his neglectful insult of two of the more heroic men in our ranks. Oh, and may I just mention his unpresidential pettiness? We can start with him spitting on separation of powers with his State of the Union remark about Citizen's United vs FEC. He's free to disagree with the ruling, but that was totally unbecoming. I was. FYI I don't really care what "the troops" think... honestly... that's not something you can just flippantly say out loud I know, but really they don't know any more or less than anyone else who's old enough to vote. Some of them just think and act like they do and that their opinion counts for more (the military is FULL of blowhards like this).

QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) And? It's a Chicago-centric board, so I expected it to be left wing. I can handle that. We'll probably never agree on anything, but I have my reasons for believing what I believe and they have theirs. I'm convinced that my way is right, and I'm sure they're equally convinced of their way. But if I simply said, "Oh no! My views will be criticized?!" and ran off, well, that'd be a bit cowardly wouldn't it? If your views can't stand a bit of scrutiny, they probably suck. Besides, if I'm ever in the mood to just be coddled and have people say how totally correct I am, I have plenty of conservative boards and blogs that I can retreat to. This is not one of those places, and that's fine. I can respect that

This also sums up my feelings pretty well:

Was that a real Ozzie quote? lol, really shut the f*** up Ozzie. At least he didn't say "don't watch the games" this time

Jesus said unto his disciples "Go unto the world and tell all that homosexuality is a sin and God is ashamed of what you do and who you are." lol, I bet I could convince someone that's actually in the Bible

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 26, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) They play badly in August/September. That's how I should've phrased it. I'm pretty sure they even did it in 2008, but the division was so bad that they still managed to win. They really scared us all in '05, too, although none of us would take the end result back. -
Went to the Orioles-Reds game last night... it was a home run derby, the O's were serving up batting practice. Also, Aroldis Chapman throws really hard, you can see how helpless the batters look against him in person. Damn near all of the runs were scored off homers: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore;_ylt=...F?gid=310625101

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) Why was that funny? Cuz that was kind of when I put 2 and 2 together for the first time and realized you guys aren't actually that far apart on the political spectrum (if I could place you on there at all). He's way on the left, but you're not really on either, you're kind of almost an anarchist

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) John Yoo is attacking Obama for abusing executive power and waging war without Congressional approval. John Yoo. WTF. lol, seriously?

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) Insinuating that someone is an obnoxious annoying douche is not really an insult? I'd be offended if that was directed towards me. I guess it could be looked at as if he wasn't insinuating those things and that it was just a general statement, but I didn't take it that way Don't ACT like an obnoxious annoying douche is only an insult if you actually intend to be an obnoxious annoying douche.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) I disagree on him barreling up any fastball. He couldn't make contact last night when all he had to do was hit the damn ball and we win the game late. He struck out with that big bat of his and his loopy swing. I like Lilly. I do. But he had a chance to win the game last nite and failed. It would have been a nice comeback win to steal, games we need to win if we have any hope of bettering the .500 mark this season. I know some of you magically think we're going to start winning at a .700 clip and run away with the division, but I want to see it on the field. Sometimes when ballplayers try to do something they fail. /shrug

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 09:13 AM) I would hope that the people slinging insults like this in the thread about strengthening the rules are being at least warned. That's not really an insult QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) Have you read any of this thread? For all the talk about WSI, which I have maybe visited twice in my life because it blows, this site has clearly taken on a different character in the last 12-18 months. In my opinion, the quality has decreased. What seems to be being said is that this is a product offered by Jason, with rules or guidelines for behavior maintained by the moderating staff, and that despite some posters' insistence that this be some sort of receptacle for everyone's frustrations, the quality has decreased to the point at which the product is no longer being consumed at what is deemed an acceptable rate by Jason and/or the moderating staff. It appears to be fairly simple. Pick up the quality, use common sense, post intelligently, and emotionally, but not recklessly or deliberately ignorant. If that is too difficult a line or level to ascertain, than this is probably not the White Sox message board for you. This. I honestly don't get why some are having so much trouble with the concept - s*** post after s*** post after s*** post is just not conducive to any kind of intelligent discussion at all and just makes people give up and leave PHT alone. But a hit dog will howl, I guess.

F*** it III: Sox vs The National. First Pitch 7:10 CT

I looked at the Yahoo box score and it said "AJ Pierzynski intentionally walked" and I saw the run scored but missed the wild pitch - for a second I thought the Nationals new manager was coming in with a bang with some horrible managing -

You know since Y2HH said it's a pet peeve when people say "Obamacare," something that annoys me is when people are talking about how Obama blew up the deficit (the one that blew up before he ever took office in Jan 09) and when asked for reasons they mention the stimulus (okay, I give you that one but I'll still tell you it was not part of the structural problems), the bailouts (just blatantly wrong, Obama hadn't been elected, and the government's gotten like 20 billion in profit and counting - when called on this I've seen people say "and how is the government making a profit a good thing?" just admit you were wrong that it added to the deficit), and the "$1 trillion ACA." The ACA hasn't added anything to the deficit. It'll eventually be something like neutral. point being: f***ing hell, have some respect for facts.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 01:20 PM) It's what has me disenfranchised about our political system...and it's not just the politicians, but the people...because the people put them there. 95% of democrats I know have NO opinions that do not side with the democratic agenda. 95% of republicans... ^^^ see the above. The surprising thing is people cannot see the problem with this. I have quite a diverse group of friends, most of which do not get along politically. My republican friends cannot understand how I can defend Obama at times, and my democratic friends cannot understand why I sometimes disagree with the things he's doing... That phenomenon, at least IMO, makes NO sense and wasn't the intention of our system. When we all went out drinking that time it was really funny to me to see you and BigSqwert nodding and smiling and agreeing about the ACA being s***ty.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) All it did for them was guarantee more paying customers. It never addressed any of the real problems. You pretty much summarized why so much of the left hates, or at least holds their nose about the ACA

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) We seem to be calling for a Dayan Viciedo call up more all the time and complaining about Juan Pierre. But, I have never seen DV in the OF. How is his throwing arm? How many assists does he have at Charlotte? Of course he also swings a bat, which I agree seems to be a challenge for JP. Viciedo has a cannon. Not sure about his fielding, but I hear that he's been improving (he needs reps, and he's been watching his weight) -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) Well I was thinking he would billy club guys, but most likely he would try bunting and fail. I was about to open a beer right before reading this... glad I didn't. This monitor is brand new, and it hasn't been baptized yet.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) This entire organization is an unmitigated f***ing DISASTER. We are looking at YEARS of futility and mediocrity and if you think otherwise you're wiping kool-aid off your chin. This season was over the day they stepped off the plane in Cleveland. I lol'd at this example, it looks soooo much like a PHT post. Thank you sir.
