    Japan Tsunami

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) I'm not gonna even lie. If I knew my kids were safe, I would totally be one of those people. I like you and everything but I still would talk s*** about you really bad.

    The Gathering 2011

I might be around in April, but in May I'll be going on a cruise for my 5th anniversary (my anniversary is actually 14 April but we're doing a couples thing)
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) The question is why was that so far off from what the played wanted I kind of thought that WAS what the players wanted... no 18 game season, not to be gouged by the owners, and nobody disagreed on the rookie pay scale thing with rookies who've never done s*** making more than half the Pro Bowl squad, and the first 3 picks being a curse. But then we have this no-releasing-finances thing... sigh

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 07:11 PM) How is Yokohama outside of Japan? Supposed to say Tokyo

    Japan Tsunami

Sigh... idiots on the West Coast standing on the shore trying to get a look at the tsunami waves and take pictures. Only in America...
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 06:44 PM) Yeah but that kinda assumes NPR is just some dumb left-wing blog or something, not a national organization which leans left but has pretty high journalistic integrity and standards. Yeah, I know, but my snark wasn't going to work if I said all that. lol. NPR is nothing like the right-wing caricature of it (actually, what IS like the right-wing caricature of it)? To me the thing about conservatives' indignation about what dude said about Tea Partiers is that it's hilariously hypocritical, Fox News says equivalent things and much worse on Beck, Hannity, etc. pretty much all day long... they don't wait until they're in private, they just say it out loud.
  7. First it was the owners pissing me off but now it's the players pissing me off. They turned down a really good deal IMO especially when you consider how douchey the owners have been acting. "It included an offer to narrow the player compensation gap that existed in the negotiations by splitting the difference; guarantee reallocation of savings from first-round rookies to veterans and retirees without negatively affecting compensation for rounds 2-7; ensure no compensation reduction for veterans; implement new year-round health and safety rules; retain the current 16-4 season format for at least two years with any subsequent changes subject to the approval of the league and union; and establish a new legacy fund for retired players.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 06:07 PM) have a meltdown? panic, s*** pants, piss down leg, overreact, and then develop an effective strategy to counter it like a week too late.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) Couldn't have said it any better. I'm not saying Kirk was a god or anything, but he would be a huge help to this team as it is set up right now. Exactly how I feel. When he was here I wasn't exactly singing his praises, I used to invent new cursewords while he dribbled the ball for 18 seconds before desperately flinging up an awkward-looking shot that bounced off the lower right side of the backboard. But he wouldn't be doing that on this team if he was here.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 06:00 PM) Second thought on the NPR thing: They're a news organization. Why the hell didn't they investigate O'Keefe's s*** claims and once-again-edited tapes instead of having a meltdown first? isn't this kind of a standard left-wing reaction to right-wing bulls***?
  11. Hey remember 2 years ago when the DHS released a report (that was not supposed to be leaked to the public, but they are infiltrated by Fox News) about military veterans being in right-wing extremist organizations, which happens to be a factual statement, and everybody flipped the f*** out and drummed up self-righteous indignation? The suspect in the attempted bombing of the MLK Day parade is a veteran. IJS.

    Japan Tsunami

I have a Japanese friend (she lives in Yokohama outside of Japan) and she told me "I'm alive, but I'm in hell"
  13. Why does James O'Keefe have any credibility whatsoever? Why do people listen to anything he says? (I know the answer, just asking out loud)
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) Hinrich is not and has never been a great defender. Semantics... he is good, and would not make Thibs' defense worse.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 04:29 PM) To be honest, I dont know. Kirk isnt as great as a shooter as I thought he was going to be, and I like CJ Watson as Rose's backup. Bogans is bigger and plays good enough defense, i dont know that Kirk would be a great upgrade Going to have to side with thxfrthmmrs on this. Everyone already knows he's a great defender, so no issues there, and while he's not a great shooter he's decent. He isn't half the creator that Rose is but he can move with the ball, and is a threat to score, especially with defenses preoccupied with Rose. He would get some wide open looks at threes, too. He'd fit into the 2 guard spot perfectly (he was never really a PG...). I understand why they gave him away, and I'm not bitter about it or anything, but I wish he was on this team right now.
  16. QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) Most workers in Wisconsin are not public employees but are taxpayers. Public employees do not have a monopoly on the term "worker" -- far from it. Public employees are also taxpayers
  17. You guys have to pay higher taxes but at least your middle class isn't being asphyxiated
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) It's not that you would lose money, and it's not that it's even a bad idea to auto reinvest, I just prefer to use dividends as a method of diversification, and to keep income taxes as simple as possible for if/when I sell. I need to stop caring about what the portfolio looks like week to week... in 2008 and 2009 I didn't look at it at all. What I do right now is transfer cash from my checking account every month and let it sit and then when I have enough I either buy something else (to diversify) or I add to something that's already in it. I don't have that many stocks, though, I added a couple so I could have some small cap stuff but the rest I think I'm just going to find an ETF for small cap growth stocks, and after that just start putting stuff in a S&P 500 index fund.
  19. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 09:41 PM) What I do is let the dividends collect in a cash account and wait, when I find a bargin stock or an opportunity arises where a good company is hammered for no reason or bad reasons, I'll diversify the collected dividend money into that new company/opportunity. It allows you to take money paid by other companies and diversify it. To me, I already have shares of the companies paying dividends, so I'd rather have something else, possibly at a better price, and even if I do decide to buy more shares of the same company, I get to decide when to do so, usually at a better price. With dividend reinvestment, your stuck buying shares at whatever price the stock happens to be at, which isn't always the best time to buy. I want the stock to go up b/c that means more money for me... it also means the % of stock I buy when the dividend payment comes is less. If the stock tanks for a while, the reinvestment buys more % of shares and it's a better value, but it's still not good that the stock tanks. Eh as long as the stock doesn't totally bomb and stay down, you don't lose money.
  20. Sprained ankle - bad, but not devastating. Keep some ice on it and keep it moving. Could've been much worse.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 09:32 PM) Really? I only wrote that because I knew you were reading.
  22. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) Yes, the new shares have a new cost basis because 1) the stock is being bought at a new price, and 2) because the dividend was sent to you and used to purchase new shares but also taxed...so you do not owe taxes on that dividend money if/when you sell the shares...so it makes selling properly complicated. Of course, you can do what 90% of the people that re-invest dividends do and simply pay full taxes twice, once on the dividend itself (which you never actually collected) and again when you sell the shares, bought with money that's already been taxed... Get it? and then the corporation that paid taxes on the profits. lol What's easier than re-investing dividends? Just letting it sit and collect, and then buying whole chunks of shares? (Not too thrilled with the idea of paying a transaction fee)
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) The Heat would have to go 18-1 to match the Cavs' record from last season. I'm just saying... Correction: 18-0. In other words, not happening.
