2018-2019 Official NBA thread
lostfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Hoiberg looked like he was in completely over his head but it really just turns out that he had Butler and Wade sandbagging him. Once he was rid of the burden of them he looked like he knew what he was doing. -
She has actually made UPGRADES to her game since Rio and she STILL somehow makes it look effortless when she flies around the gym. LOOK AT THIS! She's in uncharted territory.

There is literally nothing to those Jordan Howard "rumors" by the way. It was no more than Clayton just saying "this is a trade that makes sense if it happened." -

Khalil Mack's impact on the team has been discussed ad nauseam already, but for all I had heard about him before he came to the Bears, he's somehow even better than everyone said he was. There's really nothing even particularly special about what he does, either. He is just... better than everyone. He is either stronger than the blocker, faster, or a combination of both. No gimmicks. -
Three thoughts: 1. If you have a 4k HDR-capable TV and the green to spring for it, Xbox One X is totally worth the money (I sold my old console). The difference is pretty dramatic especially on first-party games. The difference on PS4 Pro is noticeable, but less so. (I also have a GTX 1070 on my PC... yeah I have a problem. Leave me alone.) 2. The fact that Forza Horizon 4, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Assassin's Creed Odyssey come out within a month of another is just plain rude. And Spider-Man JUST came out a month ago and I still have yet to play Detroit: Become Human. Upside: Sony will put those games on sale in a few weeks and I can get them at a discount. 3. I just finished the Uncharted remastered trilogy, then I jumped into Uncharted 4. The graphics in the first 3 games was nice but there's a HUGE jump in the quality of visuals on the 4th game.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) A slightly different take on this topic. My dad was talking to me about this on Thanksgiving. Obamacare actually does have problems that need to be addressed, but Dems pretended it wasn't a thing. Granted, yes they did actually have tactical reasons for doing this (Republican-led states blocking Medicare expansion then letting people blame the Dems when premiums go up, the ACA having fixable problems but the GOP in Congress refusing to ever cooperate for any reason, etc.). That political dynamic is flipped now. Republicans are talking about keeping the parts everyone likes (the parts that cost money) and scrapping everything else (the part that pays for the parts everyone likes). They are realizing they can't really do that and it'll break it worse if they did, but they can't blame the Democrats since they control the entire government now.

Clinton's campaign wasn't all comprehensively bad, campaigns just get a lot more harsh criticism when their strategy isn't good enough to win. She actually turned out almost as many total votes as Obama did in 2012, definitely more than Bush or Bill Clinton either time. It's like a football game, you can still look and see where the losing team did a lot of things right. They just never had a handle on white Midwestern voters for reasons that have been discussed ad nauseam.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) Really not remotely shocked by this. Republicans have been openly praising Putin for about 4 years now at CPAC and other places like that.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) How Clinton lost Michigan — and blew the election The pure arrogance of this campaign was just unreal. Geez, that sounds worse than their 2008 campaign. And they had this sophisticated ground operation but absorbed NONE of the lessons Obama's campaigns learned.

I don't ever proactively root for them to lose, no. The losses are hard to watch but much easier to stomach when you know there's a clear path ahead, though.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 05:11 PM) He failed as a 33 year old head coach and even then he did have a .500 season followed by a bad year with Tebow/Orton at QB (and the .500 year was with Orton IIRC). I think he was one of those people who if he looks back, probably learned a lot from that experience and should be in a great position to be a really good head coach. And while he handled the Cutler thing wrong...was he really wrong on Cutler? At the time, he had absolutely no basis for believing anything one way or the other about Cutler, that was purely his ego. In '09 Cutler had everything going for him, had the support of his coaches and his management who knew what he needed to succeed to coach bad habits out of him and then he went to the Bears, who thought he was a finished product and didn't really even bother trying. Ted Sundquist wrote a comprehensive piece about where Cutler was at in his career just before the trade: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2580349...ened-from-there

I really don't think the Cowboys, or anyone else, actually realized they drafted Tony Romo's immediate replacement. Almost everyone who's pretending they knew Prescott would be as productive as he's been is just lying. But let everyone tell it, it was so obvious and Ryan Pace just didn't see it.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 02:04 PM) I agreed with twitter that Perry would have been a good HUD pick. Yeah, that's a position where you put a big-city mayor or governor, not some random asshole

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) I liked that review. Terrible title. But what I get from it is this movie gets away from things like entire planets being blown to bits as a shallow plot device and instead to the brutality that would spawn such a longstanding resistance. This is a war movie. The others are adventure movies. Yeah, I agree, it was actually a good review. But the title is just begging to be mocked.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) I don't know. I think a lot of us thought when they traded up in the 4th to land Kwiatkowski it was going to be Dak. And a lot of the "internet helium" picks have turned out to be pretty good players. I'm not saying it's an incorrect assessment, I'm saying it's verbally jacking off.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) Have any recent Texas Tech quarterbacks had success in the NFL? A bit cautions about some of these "scheme" QBs in college, where anyone steps in and dominates. The whole college game is like that really, it's hard to scout QBs because what they do in college is almost always nothing like what they'll do in the pros

"The Bears should've drafted Prescott" is such a lazy, useless statement that conveys no actual constructive thought.

Rogue One review: this is the first Star Wars movie to acknowledge the whole franchise is about war Mind. Blown. Had no idea.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 11:01 AM) So, here's an article by the page run by the President's special advisor suggesting I should be shot. What are standards for anyway?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) Everyone realizes that managing oil and gas reserves, what Rick Perry would do in Texas, is not what is done by the department of Energy correct? Nuclear weapons, electricity grid, etc? The part dealing with oil and gas extraction is under Interior a lot. By "everyone" you mean the Trump team right? I would say "no, I don't think they do" but I think Perry not knowing is also the point.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) All Republicans will fall into line when it comes time to approve all these cabinet positions. I would be shocked otherwise. I also doubt the Democratic party will do much to stop it. A few will, but probably not enough. Democrats will try to block it but as a party, that's just not how they roll. Republicans are basically all interchangeable and can fall in line when the party's official position dictates they do so. There's no such thing for Democrats.
-
The current guy in that position has a PhD in theoretical physics, the guy before him also did, and had a Nobel Prize, the guy before that in the Republican administration had a Doctor of Science from MIT. And then there's Rick Perry. Get the entire f*** out of here.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) Seen rumors today of Harbaugh to Rams. That was before this news I've seen the same rumors but that wouldn't make sense to me unless the Rams offered him something insane like $12 million a year. He's got the world in his hands at Michigan right now.

I could have SWORN the Rams JUST extended Jeff Fisher.

I did some upgrades on my PC, so I installed Steam so I can play some games on it again. I started making a username and password since I haven't been on in forever, and the name I picked was taken. WHO THE HELL HAS MY USERNAME?! NOBODY EVER USES IT!!! Oh... me... in 2007. Half-Life 2 is still on there. I see.
