  1. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) Gentrifying Bronzeville makes it better? That's a whole separate discussion, but for the purposes of what I'm saying, I mean adding more housing developments and businesses, which seems to be the main issue people have with the location of the stadium, and the "ghetto" everyone envisions there mostly not existing the way they think it does anymore.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) I don't know that he meant crime-wise as much as ... footprint wise. I go to bridgeport sometimes but because of the parking around it and it mostly being residential, you are going to comiskey to go to comiskey. That said with rising rents and idiot policy I definitely think bridgeport will start to see more and more moving there. Sure, but where on the south side would you build a stadium like that? You can't actually build on the lakefront. Let's say Hyde Park, or Kenwood, those neighborhoods would be much more like Wrigleyville. How we gonna do that?
  3. Why does everyone always say 35th and the Dan Ryan is a "terrible part of town?" Maybe this was true in the 90s. The projects over on Federal are all gone now, just empty lots. Bridgeport is still Bridgeport, it's not really that bad, just an ordinary neighborhood. Bronzeville on the other side of the expressway is halfway gentrified now, and the only way it's not fully gentrified is because the 2008 recession slowed everything down. Is the White Sox in a neighborhood like Wrigleyville? No, and it never will be, that ship sailed 20-something years ago. Really the only thing that irks me about the current stadium is that it faces southeast instead of northeast, so the skyline isn't visible in center field like it should be.
  4. That was the point of the public option.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) Now I am even sadder that you never reached out to me when you were in my town. I did, couldn't find your email so I ended up hitting you up here. You couldn't make it, as I recall.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 05:12 PM) I will say it today, despite all of the fear mongering about this election from the left, the final results will look like 1984 for Hillary. I don't think that's really possible anymore, I think she'll do roughly what Obama did - comfortable margin in electoral votes, about 330, plus or minus a couple bonus states, winning AZ or GA here, losing Iowa there.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 04:25 PM) Eric Trump is dumber than he looks https://www.yahoo.com/style/why-this-latina...-182621344.html LOL, "contra" means "against."
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) Oh no, the Bears have years of this to come. They have a huge talent gap to make up to catch up to the good teams in the NFL. I meant the nonsensical, mostly-imaginary Cutler takes. There will finally be something else to talk about, or complain about.
  9. Kellyanne Conway actually admitted that Trump is down in the polls. I feel like she's probably blinking in morse code "please hire me when this is over." To use a poker analogy, Trump's trying to win the World Series of Poker with a green 3 from Uno, a 6 of spades, a Community Chest card from Monopoly, a Jack of Diamonds, and the Rules Card for Pinochle from the Bicycle card decks.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 03:00 PM) It is all about the person delivering it. Despite decades of Hillary doing everything under the sun to win people over, she has zero charisma. A decent amount of the country respects her work, but no one seems to actually *like* her. She doesn't energize people, she doesn't excite people. Donald Trump has done more to excite and energize Democrats than Hillary has. She is the Democrats version of John McCain. She's been around a really long time, been around some really important people and times, and there was nobody better, so she won the nomination. I promise you if Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, or Ronald Reagan had delivered that line, it would have gone viral. Hillary just doesn't inspire that kind of cult following. In fact Hillary is the kind that inspires people to find a cult for some excitement in their lives. I think everyone more or less agrees that Obama is a funny guy, but he delivers lines like that sometimes too and they fall flat. He grins, as if to say "I said that, so it's funny, right?" Usually it is, but sometimes it seems like he's trying too hard. Clinton's sense of humor is a lot more dry or sarcastic, she's not like those three at all.
  11. The Bears will get crushed, because the Vikings are really good, and the Bears are one of the worst teams in the league with or without Cutler, but we pretty much know what (or who) the media will be talking about next week. Fortunately, one more half a season, and we'll be done with this.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 02:28 PM) You would think scrooge mcduck would be the better duck to use. Starting to gather that what the Clinton team looks for in a slogan/zinger is similar to what my mom looks for in a birthday card. She really thought that "Trumped up trickle down" line was gonna be a thing. lol. Trying to get a "horses and bayonets" or "the 80s called and wants its foreign policy back" line
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) Not sure what else you guys would like them to do, honestly. I'm just pointing out that Fox is transparently full of s*** here. He is from the school of NFL coaching that believes actually copping to anything for any reason ever is a vulnerability, so they lie about nonsense for no reason.
  14. O'Keefe could have an expose on a murder, broadcast live in 4k with multiple eyewitnesses confirming what happened, and I would still doubt what's happening in the video is what he says it is.
  15. Just in: Cutler's thumb has miraculously healed and he's cleared to play. Fox says Cutler is obviously the starter and there never really was a competition. I'm sure that Fox is completely telling the truth about this.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) I think for me a lot of it has to do with how much more information there is available now compared to when we were younger. I see and read about the misery of this franchise all the time and it definitely starts to wear on you. When I first started on this board I honestly didn't realize how pathetic the Sox franchise has been on the whole. And we're old too. I didn't think they were pathetic when I was younger, for the first 20 years or so of fandom. I always thought of their default as above-average, but never actually good enough to compete. But that normal bar gradually got lower and lower, to where we are now, a high 70s win team.
  17. I injured my nads on a stripper pole Saturday night. For all wondering, don't wear a costume that sticks to metal and try to slide down a pole.
  18. I think 75% of what you wrote here is directly attributable to experiencing lengthy periods of time watching a team lose with no apparent end in sight. Like everyone else, 2005 was the high point of my fandom, but it was really a fluke, and everything after that was a mirage, they were never seriously competing for anything except 2006. The team's management is totally tone-deaf, out of touch, and lacks self-awareness. There's not all that much to be proud of - we've got Sale and Quintana, Abreu, and Anderson, that's about it. I'm experiencing something like this with the Bears, although this has less to do with the Bears being bad and more to do with me being tired of the NFL culture at large. I really can't stand most football fans because they're dumb, I don't like being associated with most Bears fans either, because they're all stereotypical meatballs, etc.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) Regardless of actual election, Obama being gone is good for SNL. They had no idea what to do with his character. Kate McKinnon and Baldwin have been among the best, but considering the materail not surprising. I remember back in 2009 comedians were complaining that he's really had to mock. You take someone like Clinton or Bush and they are pretty easy to make fun of because you just exaggerate them, but Obama doesn't really have that many personality quirks besides saying "look" or "aaaaaand" a lot. And since he doesn't really talk the way the average black man does, you can't really do that either without sounding all kinds of racist.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 11:06 PM) It's not gross, it's true. Accomplished? What has she done? Like when SNL zinged her last night on the "last 30 years debate question." She's done very very little on the positive side. A common person who did what she did would be in jail or disgraced. Hillary? The FBI turns the other way. What I'm saying is a.) if Trump gets in as late as possible he can possibly ride the "new guy" crusader thing all the way to the White House. He gave the media so much time to finally turn him into Cosby. b.) I disagree on Hillary. Yes the more people see they hate her, to an extent. My point is she has been around forever and we are used to seeing/hearing her. It's like the vase your are still using even though you should get a new one. You are used to it and even though it may now suck you are used to it and deal with it. It really only took a weekend to turn Trump into Cosby, and he mostly did this himself. Because he believes no publicity is bad publicity he kept talking about it and it stayed in the media for another 2 weeks. Had he simply apologized and shut the f*** up (which he is psychologically incapable of doing), it would've blown over.
  21. Pumpkin is watermelon for white people.
  22. Greg low key has the thickest skin in here, not gonna lie
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 21, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) Who wore it best? goddammit I couldn't remember if that exchange happened on Facebook or here. Now I look like a dumbass. Well more than usual.
  24. Following Trump-Pence logic, my son was aborted from his mother on his due date (in normal people world this is called a C-section but stay with me) and I would've been required to have a funeral for my very-much-alive son 10 years ago.
  25. lol. I didn't realize that thing would post in 1920 x 1080
