  1. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) Gavin needed a change of scenery, plain and simple. If you don't succeed right away in Philly...those fans will eat you alive. IMO Chicago is just as bad. We want all our rookies to come on like Alexei Ramirez did.
  2. I'm too lazy to copy and paste atm, but here's a pretty good CNN interview of Bill Clinton regarding Obama. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/02/16/bil...anda/index.html
  3. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) Who? I'm almost certain he's talking about Harold Baines.
  4. Ok, normally I don't do this, but what the hell. - Much to Soxtalk's chagrin, Jerry Owens starts the season in CF for the Sox, and his play is acceptable. - Paul Konerko starts off slow as usual but bounces back big. - John Danks pitches the first 2/3ish of the season looking like a Cy Young contender but has a dead-arm period. - Gavin Floyd will still walk more batters than we're comfortable with but will be otherwise just fine. - Mark Buehrle will struggle because the defense is piss-poor. - Bobby Jenks will have another effective, statistically good season. Posters will continue to b**** about his non-existent decline in performance.
  5. I actually like Gov. Sanford and think Begala is a shameless Kool-Aid drinker, but he really does have a point. Find me a Republican governor who opposes the stimulus but won't take any of the federal money. At least Charlie Crist is keeping it real. edit: also, Begala's original piece that Sanford's op-ed was in response to was kinda sad. Begala never has any original thoughts whatsoever, they're all pure regurgitated Democrat talking points.
  6. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 10:28 AM) Cotts. Yeah I figured it was a reliever but I couldn't remember who. That was before I registered on this site I think.
  7. Anything I said in support of Burris was based on the benefit-of-the-doubt assumption that he wasn't completely full of s*** for the record.
  8. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 12:32 AM) Buehrle isn't quite the average major leaguer when it comes to money. Sure he got a lot and I am sure he enjoys having it, but he seems pretty frugal. I can just picture him on a big ass farm hunting quail or something with Crede. Yeah I could see that too. He really doesn't seem like the kind of guy that changes by money at all, he's still basically a regular guy. I remember an article about him and another player I forget (Crede I think, someone from MO) that dropped him off somewhere in some gas station or something so his wife can pick him up for the all star break. The player wanted to drive him further but Mark insisted on staying there like he was nobody.
  9. I wouldn't hate him. Fatherhood > baseball. Although he'd be pissing away another relatively easy few million, but to each his own.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 15, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) That's amazing how old Owens is. Proves it's tough to crack a lineup in the majors. I wouldn't discount Wise making it. Oz loves him obviously. With Owens it's not so much that as much as the fact that he was a football player and started playing baseball late, so he was pretty old when he got drafted.

  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) To be honest, that kind of stuff is why I don't watch much network news. CNBC is on here at work, so I watch that all of the time. They also usually have MSNBC on the other channel, though I like it better when they have Bloomberg. Yeah, all of the major networks do it. It's obnoxious as hell. They almost always descend into partisan sniping. Sometimes there is an exception when they have a couple of Congressmen from each party having a respectful debate but that's the exception and not the norm.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) I don't now about the other networks, but MSNBC had live footage of the Geither testimony pretty much all day on the 9th. That is a pretty bogus accusation without talking about why. Normally I prefer CNN coverage, but their standard way of offering analytic insight is to get 4 people on a panel and have them shout talking points over each other. Either that or have some celebrity on Larry King. Pretty awesome.
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 12, 2009 -> 10:16 AM) You know what it is...you dont give a f*** now that your married. You used to care if a chick was into you and they totally picked up on that. Now your going around like Mr. Nonchalante and they are into you not noticing them. Well that, plus I'm just a handsome motherf***er.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 12, 2009 -> 09:38 AM) I just think it is cute that you two called each other to make sure you matched clothes We actually did have a conversation like that earlier, she got mad when I told her I'd be wearing black.
  16. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 12, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) lost, that chick really really wants you doesnt she? She told me I was off-limits. Not because I'm married (lol) but because her friend (the one with the glasses, that got called out in this thread for not having on anti-perspirant) wants me. Somewhat ironically, my wife likes the friend, but can't stand the girl in that pic, mostly because of the pic. Earlier in this thread, or maybe it was the 2008 version, I was b****ing about how since I've been married I got to fight off all these various women that want to get in my pants. It's flattering, but WTF, it's frustrating. I think my cock is encrusted in diamonds and spills out 100 dollar bills wherever I go or something.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 12, 2009 -> 03:20 AM) Sure he is. I just don't understand the Crede hate around here. The guy is one of the reasons we won it all. OK, dispute that. I'm sure somebody will say he didn't do squat. He did. There isn't Crede hate, it's only perceived to be that way by some fans who can't let go. I love Crede as much as anybody, but the era is over. If we were certain he could actually play and be the same player, there wouldn't be this discussion. But he is even more of a question mark than either Fields or Viciedo anymore.
  18. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 11:54 PM) If that girl doesn't understand now, she will after she gets married. lol that's what my wife said. I actually had no idea that her tongue was all out like that.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) Smaller stuff has hit lots of things, but usually we're pretty good about bringing the big stuff down over the South Pacific. From a different article: I think the answer to your statement is "Space is pretty big". It is, but I just kind of assumed it'd have happened by now. I know space is pretty big, but we (humans) have a whole lot of crap up there too.
  20. So we've been doing this for like 50 years and satellites have never collided before? Ever?
  21. My wife got mad at me when she saw this pic on Facebook a couple days after the aforementioned Friday night that I didn't come home (I wasn't tagged in this pic, but my dumb ass forgot that if I commented, all my friends would see it, to include my wife): When I told the girl about it she actually got mad that my wife was mad. "It was innocent"
  22. QUOTE (Texsox @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) Bottom line, those jobs that the lowest skilled immigrants (legal and illegal) take are not in high demand by people that were born and raised in the US. And what the government likes are illegals who do not have social security cards who accept no benefits, but pay sales taxes, property taxes, fuel taxes, etc. etc. If all of a sudden we unleashed 10,000,000 workers receiving benefits on the system, we'd be in a world of hurt. So that is a big fat reason why we've done nothing besides flap our gums and rattle swords. Remember Reagan and Bush's answers. Can we call those who hire illegal immigrants and pay them low wages slave drivers? Since that's basically what it is when you get down to the basics, modern-day slavery. A way of getting labor for cheap, not having to worry about ethics or safety standards, etc.
