QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 08:19 AM) I never said he would fix everything. I knew he would be an exponential improvement over your pal GWB and he's already showing that he will be. Kap likes GWB? Really?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 06:28 PM) It's the only way to make the bill bad enough that it won't do the job, and thus they can blame the President when it doesn't do the job. Wouldn't wanna lose any credibility on that anti-government mantra because if the government does something right its all irrelevant.
-
All of the sniping over "pork" is a bunch of PR bulls*** (granted, its working). Its a very very small part of the package. I just wish they'd give the real reason for opposing it, that they disapprove of the government spending, instead of pretending they have ideas of their own (they don't) and demanding concessions with no intention of voting for the bill. If you won't do it, then don't, and say so. Spare me the charade.

lol. That one is not silk, hers is though. That's a velvety something or other.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) It would be more honorable to come clean before you're outed than after you're caught red-handed. Yes it would, and it'd also be more "honorable" than to never have cheated and lied in the first place. That's still more than many other players have done. It's a simple, simple thing. Just do it, if for no other reason than to head off the winds so there's less time I have to hear about it.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) How can they claim a violation of civil rights? They aren't even American citizens. That makes no sense to me at all. Maybe it should say human rights.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) "Manning up" only when caught is not "manning up" at all--its just saving your skin, and its motivated by the same greedy, selfish instincts that made him lie in the first place. http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=362...ce=search_video He's a liar and a cheater. That's not a "man" to me. Yes he's a liar and a cheater, but so are I don't know how many other players too. Just come clean. It doesn't make it ok, but it removes that cloud from you.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) I hope the rancher countersues the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund for his legal bills and for anthing else that they can make up, including cleanup costs for any trash they may have left or repair of anything that they may have broken. They were illegaly in this country on his land he did nothing wrong. And $32 million for ACTUAL and punitive damages? I wonder what they think the actual damages were? When it comes to his property, as long as he didn't do something outright criminal to them, I can't get behind these guys. I could see if he was shooting them just for fun, revenge, whatever but it looks to me like he was just tired of these people being on his property, which he has every right to be.
-
QUOTE (Texsox @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) God I hope they lose. You have to be able to protect your property. I know there is a line somewhere, but when someone is breaking the law, I give the person being broken on, a huge benefit of the doubt. Now if he started hunting them like deer and shooting, I'd have a different opinion. But making a citizens arrest seems within reason. And just to expose myself as a potential hypocrite in all this, I have been camping along the border and have had hikers come by in need of food and water, which I did provide. Perhaps they may have been illegals, perhaps not. I don't see any reason for someone to die for lack of water. That's not being a hypocrite, that's just a basic human rights thing.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) Are you kidding? If he wanted it so bad, and his years as a mediocre AG who killed innocent people on death row were so great and attractive to become a senator, why not wait for Blago to be impeached then ask PQ for the nomination. But instead he gave this gov. that we all hated, had embarrassed the state, by accepting, gave that gov. more of a platform, more of a voice, and more of a legacy. It isn't that hard to figure out. I actually don't really care about your reasons for hating him, I just wanted to know why because it strikes me as odd that him accepting an appointment by Blagojevich in and of itself is enough for people to despise him. I guess. We'll find out what people think of him in 2010.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Even when their earning power in the private sector would be significantly higher for most positions? We'd really be getting into semantics if I tried to argue that. But just watch any given politician campaign, see the way they talk and the way they act and react (x10 if you're talking at the national level). Of course they're acting out of self-interest. They want to get elected, so they do what they have to do. Why's it any different if you're taking an appointment?
-
Betrayed the trust of his constituents? When? How does he betray it if he never has it in the first place, for reasons he can't control? Anyone who's running for elected office is acting out of self-interest. Anyone.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) I like ARod, but he's upset because he was caught. If those tests were destroyed, he'd still be lying about it. Coming clean is cool though. And he did say 3 years. I don't know if that's true or not, and we have no reason to believe him since he admittedly lied before, but it is time to move onI wonder if he thinks they could put an asterisk on those 3 seasons and count everything else for his totals so if he hits 900 homers which is possible he would still be considered the home run king. It was apparent steroids were and maybe are still a problem, but 6 year old news to keep lowlifes like Canseco, a guy who on one hand brags about how he basically introduced steroids to baseball, and then goes and points out all the "frauds" in the game. Maybe true, but he still deserves props IMO. It seems what most people who care about this issue feel is that many other players did it, just come out and come clean. You get caught, don't be a douche about it and go the Bonds route, just man up and let us all move on so we can stop talking about it. It seems like a simple thing to do, but the way other players have been acting, evidently it's not.
-
Eh outside of that whole political sideshow, there really isn't much any other reason to hate him. I mean, he's 72, do you think he was going to not accept the Senate seat? Who wouldn't? Those that would are a small minority, it's not everyday you have an opportunity to be a senator, those windows are rare.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) Depends on how they value Tyrus vs. Beasley after seeing them both in the league, and what type of cap relief they're looking for. Honestly though, it'd be really tough. Could beat it by including Rose. Then it crosses the line into ass-rape. -
You hate Burris? Why?

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) BTW, I was hugely impressed with Lamar Odom's game yesterday (and loved his screams everytime he made a dunk down low). I think people forget how good of a player he actually is considering he's basically the 4th or 5th option on that team when Bynum is healthy. He strikes me as being a little b****. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 10:48 PM) s***, I am emotionally attached to Dye. But I'm even more emotionally attached to the franchise. If moving Dye can help make this team better, so be it. Agreed. Full disclosure, Jermaine Dye is my favorite member of the Sox, even. But if I was to say that moving him helps the team, and the return for him plus being replaced by Abreu (a different type of hitter) makes the team more complete, I don't see how that's making me disloyal. It actually kind of makes me a fanboy if I refuse to consider the possibilities.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Feb 6, 2009 -> 02:17 PM) I'm actually really excited about this signing. The Steelers have had two fullback types in Gary Russell and Carrie Davis returning kicks all year, it was miserable to watch. I honestly don't really know how the Steelers won the super bowl this year, just crazy. Steelers had a very mediocre offensive line, horrendous punting and kick returns, and a head coach that was basically a figurehead. I guess the city needs to erect a statue to Dick Lebeau and Ben. Also a mentally retarded OC. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 12:55 PM) If someone can sign Abreu for $3M then why would they take Dye who is making about $12M? Reading these post one would think Dye should be valued at about $150K for all the respect he is given.. Dye is superior to Abreu IMO. Not that Bobby isn't a good player, but if he is still unsigned and only worth $3M then maybe there is something more wrong than just the economy? Who on here has disrespected Dye or failed to appreciate him? Besides that one guy that got drunk and later softened his stance. Seriously. Just because people don't get emotionally attached to players doesn't mean they don't like them.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 11:18 PM) I'm not convinced yet. But I am more convinced now than ever. I was being cautious until recently, but it really does look like he's starting to turn a corner and get his s*** together. Not quite justifying his draft status yet but getting there. It'd be awesome if he did. -
That's just how I roll.
